Medici Ventures Director Julie Smith joins us for a fascinating conversation all about blockchain technology. Launched in 2014, Medici Ventures is a wholly owned subsidiary of Overstock.com, created to manage and oversee the company's investments in firms building solutions leveraging and servicing blockchain technologies. Medici Ventures has already invested in a number of interesting companies. 

We recently had Mayor McAdams at Silicon Slopes HQ for a community roundtable and live recording of this podcast. McAdams was sworn into office for his second term as Salt Lake County Mayor on Jan. 9, 2017 and recently announced he'd be entering the congressional race for Utah's 4th congressional district.  Mayor McAdams is a graduate of the University of Utah and Columbia Law School.  After law school, he worked as a corporate finance attorney with firms in New York and Salt Lake City. Ben and his wife, Julie (a fellow Columbia Law School graduate) enjoy hiking and skiing with their four children and cheering on the kids' sports teams.

The guest for this show is United States Congresswoman Mia Love, who represents Utah's 4th Congressional District. We talked about education, recruiting air quality, transportation, what's it's like to serve in Congress, and all sorts of other things---like running! Jeanette Bennett is founder and editor-in-chief at Bennett Communications, where she primarily focuses her pen on Utah Valley Magazine, BusinessQ Magazine and Prosper Magazine. Jeanette earned a bachelor's and master's degree in journalism from BYU and has been a regular guest on HuffPostLive. She has moderated gubernatorial debates and numerous business panels. Jeanette plays the piano and organ, but her feet did the talking last year when she took third place in "Dancing with the Community Stars." Jeanette has a love/hate relationship with deadlines, half marathons and the stock market — and she has a love/love relationship with glossy pages, watching her kids play sports and enjoying Utah's canyons. She and her husband, Matt, are raising their five children in Cedar Hills.
