In the summer of 2005, Mr. Rivera was recruited by Wenatchee School District to lead an already established Mariachi program. Although the decision to leave his home state was tough he was excited about the possibilities.  In the 17 years with Wenatchee, he tripled the program and established a strong middle school Mariachi program as well as providing students with unique and impactful experiences such as trips to colleges and universities, performances with artists such as Garth Brooks, and interactions with leaders like Dolores Huerta. In 2020 Mr. Rivera took his 20+ years of experience to Mount Vernon School District and although the pandemic changed many aspects of teaching for Mr. Rivera it did not change the importance of connecting with students.  Mr. Rivera's ability to adapt and innovate continues to contribute to his many successes and recognitions. It has also provided him with opportunities to serve as a clinician helping other school districts establish their own programs. II List personal honors and awards (excluding students’ achievements) 2003 El Concilio de Condado de Ventura Latino Leadership Award for Cultural Arts   2003 Mexican American Political Forum of Ventura County Diego de            Barboza Musical Excellence 2009   Numerica Credit Union School Champion Award  2009   Human and Civil Rights Award from the Washington Education Association Support the showConnect with us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram: @podthescoreEmail: podthescore@gmail.com | The Score Podcast WebsiteSupport The Score on Patreon or PaypalMusic Credits:Intro: Justin McLean In Rotation & Outro: Ben Bohorquez - @jamin_music
