Swipe Up To Skip College?
Viral fame or a fancy degree? Dr. Phil asks the question, is higher education still worth it? Dr. Phil tackles the pressing question facing young Americans and their families: Is higher education worth the cost? As tuition prices soar and student debt hits record highs, with the average federal loan debt over $37,000, alternatives to traditional college are gaining appeal. With a backdrop of a 2023 Wall Street Journal survey revealing 56% of Americans question the value of college, Dr. Phil delves into this seismic shift in career aspirations and the path to fulfilling your dreams. Joining the discussion is Giada, as social media influencer, who says she wants to forgo college, to be a social media "star," instead. Her mother Mindy says she is torn between her daughter continuing on the social media path or whether she should pursue a traditional education. Dr. Aaron Dinin, who teaches social media influencing at Duke University, provides an expert's perspective, alongside Morgan who claims her college degree wasn't worth it, and Dr. Tawanna Gilliard who, while grappling with nearly $400k in medical school debt, debating taking her own life. [Encore] The Deadly Trend Takeover
Dr. Phil is discussing a dangerous trend law enforcement calls a "Takeover," which is an event organized on social media with the sole intention of gathering as many teens and young adults as possible, to literally "takeover" city and suburban streets, parks, malls, and houses to party in for profit. Law Enforcement reports that often these events result in businesses ransacked, and neighborhoods destroyed from chaotic behavior, reckless driving, and violence that ensues, many times leading to arrests and death. Dr. Phil will speak with the mother and teenage girlfriend of a 17-year-old boy named, Landyn, who was shot and killed at what has been described as a Teen Takeover party. Dr. Phil will speak with Bexar County Sheriff, Javier Salazar, who is investigating Landyn's murder, and reports that every weekend his office is responding to drug and alcohol fueled takeovers organized by online hosts, and attended by teens, who are armed with guns. Leading up tonight's episode, Dr. Phil's team worked to gather intel in order to track alleged takeover party hosts in the Bexar County and discovered information about a potential takeover party. Watch what happens when the Bexar County Sheriff's Office allowed Dr. Phil's cameras to follow them to that party, which resulted in numerous arrests, and firearms seized. Like This Trend?
Social media trends stirring controversy: The "Trad Wife" movement is gaining millions of followers; critics call it regressive. Plus, fit influencers are pushing steroids to young men, raising health concerns. Social media trends can change drastically in just a year, and two movements are now capturing widespread attention—and controversy. The "Trad Wife" phenomenon, where women embrace traditional homemaking roles and step away from the workforce, has surged in popularity, amassing millions of followers and nearly 100 million views. But while some celebrate the lifestyle, critics argue it reinforces outdated gender roles and diminishes women's societal standing. Meanwhile, young men across the country are being drawn into a more dangerous trend—following fitness influencers who promote performance-enhancing drugs like steroids. A study from the Center for Countering Digital Hate reveals that in just three years, videos pushing steroids to teens and young men have been viewed over 420 million times. As these two trends gain momentum, they spark heated debates about gender, health, and the influence of social media. [Encore] America's Next "Opioid" Crisis? Adderall And Other Stimulants
America is facing a silent AND growing epidemic: the Adderall crisis. The use of this stimulant (and its generics) has exploded from 35.5 million prescriptions in 2019 to 45 million in 2022. But these numbers only scratch the surface. The DEA warns we're on the brink of our next drug crisis. America is facing a silent AND growing epidemic: the Adderall crisis. The use of this stimulant (and its generics), known by street names like A-Train, Addy, Amps, Christmas Trees, Co-Pilots, Lid Poppers, Smarties, Study Buddies, and Study Skittles has exploded from 35.5 million prescriptions in 2019 to 45 million in 2022. But these numbers only scratch the surface. A dangerous black market has emerged, flooding streets with counterfeit pills indistinguishable from the real thing. Users, often unaware, risk their lives with every dose. Even legitimate prescriptions carry significant dangers. The DEA warns we're on the brink of our next drug crisis. With 5-6 million Americans using Adderall without proper diagnosis and one in four teens in some schools abusing prescription stimulants, we're watching a new generation spiral into un-prescribed/unneeded use and addiction. Uncertified and Unqualified? Who is Teaching Our Children?
A discussion about the impact that uncertified teachers can have on a child's learning and education. Last year, nearly 400,000 uncertified teachers were reported to be employed in school districts across the country, largely to combat a teacher shortage. In addition, it has been reported that many states have lowered the standards and requirements teachers once needed to enter the classroom. Tonight, Dr. Phil will discuss the impact these solutions could have on American students. Dr. Phil will speak with Amber Shields, a former principal and non-profit education leader who claims districts have prioritized filling teaching vacancies over the education of the students, which can result in months of lost learning. Dr. Phil will also speak with Jessenia who says she he was hired as a long-term substitute without even a formal interview, credentials, or prior experience. Jessenia admits, a student truly passionate about a particular subject could probably teach the class better than she could. Plus, Dr. Phil will speak with Aurora who says she was stunned when she received an email from her son's principal that his 6th grade science teacher is uncertified and had been instructing him for months. Aurora says she had no clue that schools were even allowed to hire a teacher that had no certification, and says there is nothing she can do, because her son is required to take the class, and the district is not going to fire the teacher.
