Marathoner Zachary Barker Shares His Story + An Inside Look At Chasing An Olympic Trials Standard

Today on the podcast, I have a close friend who also is a very accomplished runner and an extremely amazing human being, Zachary Barker. Zach started his running days in middle school, where he developed a passion for the sport that led to running Division 1 in the NCAA in college. He now works full-time for the best-fueling company in the country, Maurten, while pursuing his dream of running an Olympic Trials Qualifying Time in the marathon.  In this conversation, Zach and I peel back the curtain on his training leading into the 2023 Houston Marathon. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about his build-up and all of the ins and outs of marathon training. I was especially fascinated by how he manages to run 120-mile weeks while maintaining a full-time job and really enjoyed hearing about some insane training like a 28-mile long run he did a few weeks back. We also go through his start in the sport and the lessons he's learned throughout his career in sport. Scattered throughout are some fun questions that keep the conversation light and fun, from the outlook on the 76ers to cooking for Gordon Ramsay. Needless to say, this conversation was a very fun and inspiring one! Enjoy the podcast? Please consider subscribing and giving us a five-star review on Spotify & Apple Podcasts! NCAA Champ & NIKE Pro Conner Mantz Shares His Story: Beginnings In The Sport, BYU Years, His Faith, Future Goals, & More

Today on the podcast, I have the one and only Conner Mantz. This is an interview I've been wanting to make happen for a while. Conner has one of the brightest futures for the US distance runner and has already accomplished so much in his short professional career so far. Conner won back-to-back NCAA XC titles in 2020 and 2021, cementing himself as one of the greatest American NCAA runners of all time. In 2022, Conner did what few runners have ever done in the same year, compete at the highest level in a short event like the 5k and a long event like the marathon. Conner placed 4th in the 5k at USAs and then a few months later ran 2:08:16 at the Chicago Marathon, the fastest debut marathon ever by an American.  This conversation is a deep dive into Conner's career, from his early curiosity of the sport to the present day, where he is eyeing a big race at this weekend's Chevron Houston Half Marathon. We discuss Conner's upbringing in the sport, his two NCAA titles representing BYU, signing with Nike, how much his faith means to him, and of course, the classic Gordon Ramsay question.  Hearing Conner's inspiring story will motivate you to chase after your goals. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, you'll find something to relate to and learn from in this episode. I'm very confident that you'll find something valuable in this episode. THE CALL ROOM With Ben Flanagan | Episode 1: Things Are Heating Up In Ann Arbor

Have you ever wondered what it looks like to train as a professional distance runner? What the day-to-day life looks like? How to handle setbacks, failure, adversity, and doubts? How to set goals, train for them, and execute them on race day? As outsiders, we see remarkable athletes accomplish remarkable things every year. We don't see the behind-the-scenes of what went into that remarkable performance. We don't see or understand the hours of hard work, struggle, doubt, etc. The Running Effect is here to bring you an inside look at all these things with the man, the myth, the legend, Ben Flanagan.    Ben Flanagan has cemented himself as one of the best Canadian runners of all time in his short four years of being a professional runner. He is the Canadian half-marathon record holder with a time of 61:00 and has won the prestigious Falmouth Road Race three years in a row (gaining the name "The King of Falmouth" in the process). In addition, he won the 2018 NCAA 10k title while competing for the University of Michigan. Ben is currently sponsored by On Running and is a member of VNTC based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Over the next two months, Ben and I will dive deep into his indoor campaign leading into The Ten, presented by Sound Running. We will go into his training, racing, mindset, and answer your questions along the way! The first episode is now live. It was a big introduction to the series, and we go through many interesting subjects. Go listen wherever you find your podcasts!
