Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew Episode "Night Moves"
On the 67th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, legendary Boston radio DJ and now the Morning Host on 100 The Pike FM, Mike Hsu to review the 1976 classic rock album from Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, "Night Moves."
Bob Seger is a staple on classic rock stations. Whether he was with the Silver Bullet Band or the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, Bob's legendry voice and incredible lyrics slowly propelled him into stardom.
Night Moves was his 9th studio album. It changed him from a local Detroit star into national one. The album made it to Number 8 on the Billboard Charts and eventually went platinum 6 times!
The album contains many classic rock staples, like the title track, Rock And Roll Never Forgets, Mainstreet and more.
As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew.
This was the Tom's pick.
So let your neck beard grow and your girlfriend run up that American Express bill!

Only Three Lads: The Elephant 6 Recording Co. - with E6 band The Rishis
In the 2022 documentary The Elephant 6 Recording Co., they waste no time in addressing a very valid question: What exactly is Elephant 6? Is it a record label? (Yes, but not always.) Is it a collective of likeminded visionaries? (Yes.) Is the epicenter of E6 Athens, GA? Denver? Ruston, LA? (Yes. Yes. Yes.) It started with four high school friends in Ruston, Louisiana - Robert Schneider, Jeff Mangum, Will Cullen Hart, and Bill Doss - who shared a love of home recording and '60s psych pop and needed an imaginary label for their self-circulated tapes. Soon, the foursome of friends would form the three seminal bands of the collective - Schneider would relocate to Denver and put together the Apples in Stereo, with the other three heading to Athens. Hart and Doss would become the driving force behind Olivia Tremor Control and Mangum would establish his primary focus Neutral Milk Hotel. From there, it's a long and winding family tree with a lineage of interconnected bands sharing members in common and/or an aesthetic. For more than 30 years, E6 has represented a trademark of quality for lovers of intelligent, imaginative, blissful, beautifully strange pop music.
According to the E6 website, there are a mere 51 bands who can lay claim to being an "official" part of the collective, and we are fortunate to have one of them joining us for this discussion of some of our favorite E6 songs. The Rishis are centered around the married duo of songwriters/vocalists Ranjan Avasthi and Sofie Lute, with keyboardist Marcel Sletten also joining us. Their transcendent self-titled second album (out now on Cloud Recordings) features the band's stunning combination of rootsy folk-pop, cosmic washes of hazy psychedelia, and the mystical power of Indian music. They bring the same energy and positivity that their music possesses to O3L. Word up!
Dedicated to the memory of Bill Doss (1968-2012) and Will Cullen Hart (1971-2024).

Ugly American Werewolf in London: Queensryche - Empire
Queensryche were always different from their hard rock & hair metal brethren in the 80s & 90s. Based out of Seattle, Geoff Tate (vocals), Chris DeGarmo (lead guitar), Michael Wilton (lead & rhythm guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums) created a more prog rock sound akin to that of Rush or Dream Theater. Tate's soaring vocals against the brilliant guitar work and fiesty rhythm section gave them a sound all their own in a sea of hair, power chords and the occasional power ballad. After coming off 1988's concept album Operation: Mindcrime, the band were confident and ready to take the next step to superstardom.
1990's Empire is generally referred to as their best effort and was their best seller with more than 3 million in the US alone. Thanks to MTV and rock radio, Queensryche music was in the air in 1990 and 1991 (at least until the fall) thanks to big hit like the title track, Best I Can, Jet City Woman and Another Rainy Night (Without You) and perhaps the greatest hard rock power ballad of all time, Silent Lucidity. That last song topped the mainstream rock charts and landed in the top ten on Billboard. However, thanks to elements at work in their hometown, the party didn't last.
Once Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit hit the airwaves in the fall of 1991, hard rock and hair metal would soon be shown the door by record companies looking to capitalize on the new trend. Though 1994's Promised Land went platinum and had some highlights, it was very out of place in the new flannel-clad culture. Eventually, DeGarmo would leave never to return and turmoil would separate Tate from his band in the 21st Century. However, this album stands as a testament to the bands talent and should be remembered as one of the best of the era.
