Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew Episode "Rising"
On the 68th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, SIOL Hall Of Famer, the host of Trunk Nation on SiriusXM, the Eddie Trunk Podcast, That Metal Show, the one and only Eddie Trunk to review the 1976 classic rock album from Rainbow, "Rising."
Rainbow's Rising was the 2nd studio album by Rainbow, the band that guitar god Ritchie Blackmore formed when he left Deep Purple. This album saw a whole new band, with the exception of the legendary Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Jimmy Bain joined on bass, Tony Carey on keyboard and SIOL favorite Cozy Powell on drums.
Rising not only continued where the debut album left off, but surpassed it by leaps and bounds. The musicianship, the lyrics and the neo-classical form of metal was unmatched. The whole band shined on this album, but especially, Dio, Blackmore and Powell.
Though there are only six songs on the album, songs like Tarot Woman, Stargazer & Light In The Black which are classics which may never be topped.
This was Zeus' pick. His third Rainbow album, each with a different lead singer.
So grab your wizard costume and get ready to rock with Buffalo Bill at the end!

Only Three Lads: Top 5 Artists 1980-84, Part 1 - with The Big Takeover's Jack Rabid
This week, we examine the first half of the '80s to ask the question - which artists had the best run during that span? Bringing us the funny sugar in this episode is our friend Jack (where our fellow '60s music nerds at?!?).
That's right, Jack Rabid, publisher/writer for The Big Takeover magazine and drummer for '80s New York hardcore band Even Worse and dreamy '90s indie band Springhouse is our Third Lad this week. And we had such a fab time that this one is a two parter! Part two will be dropping in a few days, so stay tuned...
Springhouse released two albums of sparkling, melancholy guitar pop for Caroline Records in the early '90s - 1991's Land Falls and 1993's Postcards From The Attic. They were the first major label signed, nationally touring U.S. "shoegaze" band, with the 'Layers' video getting MTV airplay, and sharing stages with the likes of House of Love, The Chills, Psychedelic Furs, Belly, and the Lemonheads. In 2008, the band returned for a melodic, orchestral-pop masterpiece on Independent Project Records, From Now To OK. Originally released on limited edition CD only, it has now been reissued as a deluxe edition on vinyl, CD, and digital, and presented in a beautiful package from IPR co-owner/master designer Bruce Licher. https://springhouse.bandcamp.com
The Big Takeover is a bi-annual music magazine founded by Jack Rabid and Dave Stein in May 1980, originally as a fanzine for New York punkers The Stimulators. For over 45 years, Rabid and Big T contributors have been thrilling alternative music fans with in-depth interviews, coverage of lesser known artists, and a huge review section - including Jack's always entertaining "Top 40" section. https://www.bigtakeover.com.

History in Five Songs Episode 323: The Outside Songwriter’s Worst Sin
In Episode 323 of History in Five Songs with Martin Popoff, Martin rants about "the outside songwriter’s worst sin"—pop vocal melodies—spotlighting how they derailed bands like Aerosmith, Heart, and Ozzy Osbourne by forcing generic, label-driven hooks that undermined each artist’s authentic voice.
Aerosmith – “Magic Touch”
Heart – “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You"
Alice Cooper – “Bed of Nails”
Ozzy Osbourne – “Patient Number 9”
Rolling Stones – “Whole Wide World"

Ugly American Werewolf in London: Hugh Syme Interview
We at The Wolf are excited to present our 250th episode of UAWIL and want to take a moment to thank all our loyal listeners & social media followers. Building this show and the community of fellow rock fans has been such a fun and sometimes magical adventure around the world these past 5 years. We want to express our sincere thanks for coming on the journey with us.
Also, we like to do big guests on our 50th shows - Ryan Condal EP of House of the Dragon Ep 50, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets live (after welcoming Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt on earlier to promote the show) Ep 100, Steve Kilbey of The Church Ep 150 and Steve Howe of Yes Ep 200. And we are proud to welcome one of rock music's most celebrated and contracted cover artists, Hugh Syme. Hugh is best known for his work with Rush over 50 years as their first collaboration, Caress of Steel, is 50 this year. We learned from Hugh first hand how his original piece of art was given the sepia tone at print which we all know and the songs which inspired the front and back covers. We hear about working with Neil Peart, Bob Ezrin, David Coverdale, Jimmy Page and the many models he immortalized with iconic album covers.
Hugh is also an accomplished musician in his own right and talks about recording with Rush, working with former guest of UAWIL Jim McCarty of The Yardbirds and jamming with Aerosmith. We found Hugh to be soft spoken yet wryly funny as he related tales of living in London as a teenager, working as a musician in Toronto, and the 80s and 90s living in LA when it was the heart of the music business.
And for you Rush fans, listen until the end as he announces he just submitted his artwork for an upcoming Rush anniversary reissue of one of our favorite 1980's Rush records. We had a delightful conversation with Hugh and we hope you enjoy it.
Thanks again for all the support these 250 episodes - it means the world to us. Can we make it to 1,000??? Time will tell but if you keep listening and telling us what you want to hear about, we'll keep making them. Thank you all!!
