#1162 WTF Is Psychological Immunisation? - Dr. Tom Nehmy
Dr. Tom Nehmy is a clinical psychologist with more than 15 years experience. His passion is preventing psychological problems in people of all ages while also enhancing resilience and wellbeing. His doctoral research in developing the ‘Healthy Minds Program’ produced the world’s first prevention program to prevent the onset of symptoms of depression and anxiety while also reducing risk for eating disorders. This conversation was a ripper; super relevant, super interesting and super potentially, super helpful for many. Among other things, we chatted about the influence of diet, exercise, socialisation (connection), sleep, genetics, environment and our addiction to comfort, on mental health. Tom is something of an academic pioneer, a rebel, brilliant researcher, great science communicator and most important, he’s a bit sweary. #1161 Our Resident Nerd - Patrick Bonello
Patrick is back at TYP and as always, our conversation is far-reaching and covers everything from potentially dangerous tech (will your microwave kill you?), to Tai chi, to male fertility, to Patrick’s stoush with council and lots more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1160 View Your Poo - Nick Lee
Sure, it’s a disgusting title but (in my defence) it’s also a term being used in a public campaign to increase awareness, testing and early detection around bowel cancer. A super important issue. This chat with Nick Lee is inspirational, emotional, educational and for one (or some) of my listeners, it could be the catalyst for a life-saving decision (to get tested). I could say lots more but I don’t want to spoil what you’re about to hear. BIO: Nick is co-Director and partner in Healthy Minds, an accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor and he is the Founder and Chairman of the Jodi Lee Foundation. #1159 The Dancing Cop - Yasmin London
Yasmin London has been an elite swimmer (winning a world championship), a police woman, a corporate speaker, an unintentional social media star (very cool story), a square peg in a round hole, a young woman battling an eating disorder, someone who has talked numerous people back ‘over the fence’ at the infamous ‘Gap’ (an ocean cliff in NSW) and more recently, the Executive Director of ySafe. This was a fun chat. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1158 Body Dysmorphia, Dodgeball & Sleep Envy - Tommy & Harps
Tommy Jackett is back on deck and as always, it’s an eclectic, conversational fruit salad of weirdness, science, philosophy, health and human behaviour. Enjoy. vidpod.com.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1157 Stuff I Needed To Get Better At - Harps (PT2)
Yesterday during a break in a workshop, someone asked me “what’s the stuff you sucked at, that you needed to get better at to succeed?” The episode is an answer to that question. I talk about what I needed to change, why I needed to change it and how I changed it. I share this in the hope that my journey from bad to better might save you some time, pain and frustration. #1155 You & Your Body - Harps & Tiff
Tiff and I planned to discuss a certain topic but before we got under way, we got distracted with a forty-five-minute chat about all-things body management and human optimisation. Specifically, we spoke about optimising our genetics, getting better (and smarter) with age, the over-looked and under-estimated health ingredient, a hundred-day self-experiment, reconnecting with our body (it’s always telling us something), the relationship between physical, mental and emotional health and lots more. #1154 From Mechanic To Neurosurgeon - Dr. Charlie Teo AM
Every now and then (about four times in a thousand episodes), we-revisit a slightly-updated version of an old episode, which proved to be super-popular first time around. This is such an episode. Many of you newbies have never listened to it, some hard-core TYPers have relistened a bunch of times and many have listened once and (understandably) forgotten most of what was spoken about. Anyway, growing up, Dr. Charlie Teo wanted to be either a rubbish collector (because they’re fit), a bouncer (because he was a martial artist) or a mechanic (because he was into motorbikes - and still is). He actually started an apprenticeship as a mechanic before he studied medicine. This was a fascinating and meandering chat exploring Charlie’s strategy for avoiding jet lag, neuroplasticity, improving with age, people wanting him to fail, dealing with criticism and hate, mapping the brain, a brain-machine interface, contact sports, poo transplants (yep), why he became a vegan, his exercise regime, our mutual love of motorbikes, patient-centred care, hanging out with the Dalai Lama 1 on 1 (for 4 hours), the power of kindness and lots more. BIO: For over 30 years Dr. Charlie Teo AM has been instrumental in the development, dissemination and acceptance of the concept of keyhole minimally invasive techniques in neurosurgery. Dr. Teo runs a fellowship program that attracts applicants yearly and has trained many of the world's leading figures in neurosurgery. He has trained at distinguished centres such as the Barrow Neurological Institute, Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, Stanford University, Vanderbilt University and Harvard University. charlieteofoundation.org.auSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

#1153 When A.I. Takes Over - David Gillespie
TYP’S resident Brainiac (and one of Australia’s most successful authors) David Gillespie is back, and this time we talk about the reality of living in a world which is increasingly being influenced and impacted (for good and bad) by artificial intelligence. Among other things, we talk about how in a short period of time (months), Chat GPT has gone from something none of us had heard of, to something which is currently being used by more than a hundred million people. We also discuss the possibility of A.I. becoming sentient (thinking for itself and teaching itself).. not terrifying at all! *Note... the audio quality in this ep. is a 7 because I recorded it in a hotel room and may have forgotten to plug in my external microphone.
