Living Between the Tension between Truth and Grace

We are not helping people when we sacrifice truth on the altar of mercy. If we continue this, we will see our inability to navigate this in a way that shines the truth of the gospel and shows our love for people who have a wrong understanding of the gospel. It is critical that we learn how to practically learn how to share the truth of the gospel with love. Mark 10:6 Genesis 1:27 Genesis 5:2 1 Peter 3:15   More like this from The Busy Mom Dare to Be a Daniel: Talking to Your Kids About Standing for The Lord – This is startlingly new territory for parents: explaining why a man is being celebrated as a woman on the cover of a magazine is not something we’re used to talking about. Here’s the thing: If we don’t set a place for the truth of Scripture at the table of our children’s hearts, the world will set out a feast all it’s own. What Are We Like When No One Else is Watching? -Are we growing in our walk with God? Today, we’re talking about a “big” word … sanctification. It’s a big word that means a simple thing: grow.  Grow. As Christians, we’re called to live set apart lives—no matter who’s watching. Resources Firmly Planted Family Bible Study We all agree that teaching our children the life-changing truths of the Bible is one of our most important jobs as parents. But where do we begin? How do we consistently explore God’s Word in a way that helps our children understand and apply the core truths of biblical teaching in their own lives? The Firmly Planted Family Series is divided into ten-week studies and is your key to making sense of the Bible—even if you’re learning right along with your children. Each lesson provides a core idea, a simple narrative, memory verses and discussion questions for children of all ages. And the companion student workbook is filled with age-appropriate, full-color, reproducible activities for children of any age! Age of Opportunity by Paul Tripp Are you hoping to merely survive your teenagers? With compassion, wit, and wisdom, Tripp uncovers the heart issues affecting families during the often-chaotic adolescent years. Fool’s Gold?: Discerning Truth in an Age of Error edited by Dr. John MacArthur In an age of open-mindedness, many believers accept too much with too little discernment, resulting in great confusion and compromise. But God’s Word makes it clear that not everything that glitters is gold. False teaching is at every turn, and the temptation to embrace it is great. As God’s people we are called to sift through the overwhelming number of traditions and trends and use the truth of Scripture to determine which are the true treasures-and which are “fool’s gold.” General editor John MacArthur and the contributors of this uncompromising book define the principles of biblical discernment and use them to address several contemporary Christian issues. They provide straightforward, biblical critiques of some popular but unfortunate Christian trends, such as watered-down preaching and doctrinally questionable best-selling books. Dr. MacArthur ends with a practical plan for cultivating discernment in the Chri...

Are You Ready To Give An Answer For Your Hope?

If you are a Christian, at some point in your life you will be asked to give an answer for your hope, but it’s critical that you what to say – and how to say it – when that time comes. 1 Peter 3:14-16 More Like this From The Busy Mom Culture Worn – When God said, “Don’t do this and don’t do that…” He said it for our good.  It is imperative that we learn and apply the Word of God.  Don’t just take my word for it… go to the Bible yourself and check it out! UNPopular, What it Means to Stand In This Generation – Have you been tempted to place your hope in a person?  You’re not alone—but Psalm 62 tells us that our hope should rest in God alone. Our hope as a nation will never be found in a president, in a curriculum, in a pastor or even a parent.  Our hope should rest in God and in His Word. This view will not make you popular—but it will bring your peace.  Take heart! God has overcome the world!

Jessica Kastner – Part 2

*New friend alert!* I know you’re going to love Jessica and her heart for moms… but that’s just the beginning of what God is doing through this sweet mama! Soon after Jessica Kastner became a mother, she wondered if she was the only mom who found pretend play more boring than watching playdough harden and who dreaded yet another friend’s Instagram post of homemade deliciousness. Jessica shares her experience as an “unmom”—a mom who loves her kids more than she loves the daily experience of mothering. She helps readers laugh at the ridiculous, delight in the unpredictable, and enjoy being the mothers God made them to be. Jessica Kastner is an award-winning journalist and a contributor for the Christian Broadcasting Network’s CBN.com, Beliefnet.com, and the Huffington Post’s Christianity blog. As Connecticut’s coordinator for Straight Ahead Ministries, she shares God’s message of hope by leading Bible studies in juvenile detention centers. There is Power in Prayer

What does it look like to be a disciple of Jesus? Step ONE: trust the Lord in every circumstance. Join me today as I talk about what’s happening with Bobby and what it means today, “Thy Will Be Done.” When we pray, we pray believing God hears, and understands… but more than that, we trust God’s heart in the process.  Listen in! More from The Busy Mom: Teach me to Pray – A podcast and short post where Heidi St. John reminds us that God wants to talk to us in prayer. It’s vital to live a thriving, grounded and humble life. The Power of Prayer – Podcast 1 & Podcast 2 Resources A Praying Life – Author Paul Miller shares his insights and conclusions about how to connect the broken pieces of your life and allow prayer—even poorly delivered—to fill the gaps with meaning and substance.  Miller’s down-to-earth approach and practical nature will help you see that your relationship with God can grow and your communication with Him can get better.  Parents will find Miller’s family-life experiences especially helpful. Lord, Teach Us To Pray – Since this book was published over a century ago, countless readers have learned through its pages that no one can teach prayer better than Jesus Christ himself. This enduring classic will transform your prayers and life as you open your heart to the prayer-lessons Jesus gave. “The Father waits to hear every prayer of faith. He wants to give us whatever we ask for in Jesus’ name. If there is one thing I think the Church needs to learn, it is that God intends prayer to have an answer, and that we have not yet fully conceived of what God will do for us if we believe that our prayers will be heard. God hears prayer.”

Who Brings Healing?

Let Him Fight For You

UPDATE: Since I recorded this… in the last few hours, we have seen that God is bringing Bobby back to us. He is moving, responding and even moving his arm on command! God is able!!! As we continue to walk this road through tragedy after my nephew’s recent accident, I’m learning how much I love the body of Christ.  We’ve never had suffering quite like this in our family, and while we pray and wait for Bobby’s healing, we’re continuing to be reminded of what really matters. We trust as believers in the goodness of God, and we know that He is working even now.
