396 - Michael Ovitz: The Most Cut-Throat, Competitive Business in The World… How He Changed Hollywood

My favorite movies wouldn't exist without Michael Ovitz. Think: Jurassic Park, Ghostbusters, Schindler's List! But he believes "great projects always surface." So I had him tell me about all the projects he worked with. And the talent (Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Dan Aykroyd and more). He told me how he left the mailroom of one talent agency to start his own. Which THEN became the biggest talent agency in Hollywood, Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Later on, Michael went on to become the #2 guy at Disney. Now, he has a bestselling book called, "Who Is Michael Ovitz?"    Links & Resources: "Who Is Michael Ovitz?" by Michael Ovitz Follow Michael here: Instagram  Twitter  Facebook Also Mentioned: The Altucher Report GhostBusters Dan Aykroyd Schindler's List Jurassic Park Michael Crichton Steven Spielberg MGM Studios Gary Cooper Clark Gable Jennifer Lawrence Bill Murray Zoe Saldana The Hoffmans The Pacinos Robert Deniro Robert Redford Martin Scorsese Paul Newman Sidney Poitier Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid Al Pacino Heat Michael Mann Paramount Studios MCA Studios Universal Studios Columbia Pictures Bernie Brillstein Zero to One by Peter Thiel Meatballs Tom Cruise Paula Wagner Taps The Color of Money The Hustler William Morriss Hulu Netflix ABC Pictures Joanna Woodward Slapshot Buffalo Bill and the Indians Mash Sydney Pollack They Shoot Horses Three Days of the Condor Stanley Kubrick Newman's Own Michael Eisner Disney Don Keough and Roberto Goizueta (Coka-Cola) Bob Daly and Terry Semel (Warner) Tom Murphy and Daniel Burke (Capital Cities) Tom Clancy Janet Jackson Bob Iger Pixar Marvel Lucasfilms Andreessen Horowitz Airbnb George Seurat   I write about all my podcasts! 394 - Tucker Max: Speak Your Truth or Be Silenced [Part 1]

I've known Tucker Max for 2 decades now. 20 years ago, he emailed me for advice. I told him to quit his job. And he did. He's the bestselling author of "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell." And I always tell people that if they want to study good writing, go read 10 pages of Tucker's books. "My stuff blew up... All I did was stand up and use my real name and tell my real stories about my real life." So now Tucker wants to help other people get out there and tell their truth. This part 1 of my interview will tell you how to separate the truth from everything else. Then (in part 2), Tucker will tell you how to deal with fear, how to find your audience, and how to write.    Links and Resources Scribe Media - scribemedia.com Tucker's series of articles "Asshole to CEO" "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" by Tucker Max "Assholes Finish First" by Tucker Max  "Hilarity Ensues" by Tucker Max  "Sloppy Seconds: The Tucker Max Leftovers" by Tucker Max  Tuckermax.com Follow Tucker on Facebook + Twitter   Also Mentioned: "The Ultimate Guide to Self Publishing." This is my free guide for anyone who wants to write and self-publish their own book. 393 - Beth Comstock: 3 Rules for Spotting Trends & Getting Ahead

Beth Comstock was the Vice President of General Electric. And before that, she was President of Integrated Media at NBC. Both of those titles are proof that she figured out how to rise up in the most competitive corporate environments. She had to figure out how to spot trends, generate ideas, speak up, and so on. And she recently wrote about it all in her book, "Imagine It Forward: Courage, Creativity, and the Power of Change."     Links and Resources "Imagine It Forward: Courage, Creativity, and the Power of Change" by Beth Comstock I write about all my podcasts! 392 - William Shatner: Live Long And ... Lessons from an Intergalactic Legend

Captain Kirk has always been one of my heroes. So when Steve told me I'd get to interview the intergalactic legend, I immediately teleported back to my 11-year-old self. Star Trek made it possible for people to look up at the stars and wonder what else is out there. So I brought William Shatner on and asked him everything. He told me about the brief period in his career when he lived out of his truck, he told me what he's doing to live so long (he's 87), and then we had a BIG surprise. Michio Kaku (one of the most brilliant physicists alive today) was in the audience. Halfway through the podcast, we invited him on stage. If you've ever wondered what else is out there... in space and in your own life, the possibilities of true fulfillment, then you have to listen to this episode.  Links & Resources: WilliamShatner.com Live Long And . . .: What I Learned Along the Way by William Shatner  "Why Not Me?" William Shatner just came out with his book at 87 years old. That's proof that you can write at any age. And I want to show you how. Because I strongly believe everyone has a book inside them. Trust me, writing it can lead to so many new opportunities (financially and creatively). I put all the details in this guide. 391 - Yuval Noah Harari: Are You Imagining The Future Correctly?

This interview is probably the most thought-provoking interview I've ever aired. Essentially, Yuval Harari is the expert on human evolution. I've recommended his book "Sapiens" more than any other book in the past 5 years. And not only me: Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg's say it's their favorite book, too. And now Yuval has a brand new book, "21 Lessons for The 21st Century," which covers so many topics: "the myth of free will," perception, mental health, the rise of robots, algorithms, hackers, how "The Automation Revolution" will impact the economy, your job, your quality of life and so on. Plus he tells us what you start can doing now to feel more comfortable and prepared for all these changes.    Links & Resources: 21 Lessons for the 21st Century by Yuval Noah Harari Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari  Visit Yuval's website www.ynharari.com  Yuval's course on Coursera   Also Mentioned: "The Ultimate Guide to Self Publishing," which you can get for free right now by visiting jamesaltucher.com/publish. "Right now, there is somebody out there who is trying to hack you. And not just one," Yuval said. Are We Actually Better Off? Questioning Evolutionary History...

Everything in history has either a good or bad connotation. The Agricultural Revolution: good. The Rise of Big Data: bad. But what if we're wrong? Yuval gave me an example.
