These days are hard. They aren’t what we planned, and there’s no end in sight. So how are we supposed to not only live through these days but to live well in the midst of them?The answer can be found in the book of Hebrews.But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, (you came out of the blocks strong!) sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.Hebrews 10:32-36Endurance, we need endurance.Here’s the good news. Where is God?It's a valid question and one that no one should feel shame about asking. One of the wonderful attributes of God is that He isn't afraid of our questions. What the world needs most today, what our cities and communities need most today, what we all need most today is a spiritual awakening. Here’s the good news.It’s possible.Right now, God is closer to you than you think.How close? Twenty inches. Twenty inches is all that separates you from, “then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” It’s the twenty inches between your knees and the ground. It’s assuming a position of kneeling before the mighty God and admitting that you need help. Twenty inches to go from death to life. Twenty inches that change your story from, “I was a victim of circumstance,” to, “I found Jesus, and He stood me up victorious.” God is closer than you imagine today, and He’s calling you. "We have never seen anything like this."How many times have you heard that this week? We're living in unprecedented times to be sure, but are we on our own? Do we have to sin?What a question.Here's another one: are we sinners trying to act like saints, or is it possible that we are saints who have the ability to choose sin?—God. Is. You can live in freedom.—Thoughts that go unchecked long enough in our minds cause us to stumble and sin against God. It’s the enemy’s plan to let these thoughts fester and grow. However, we must remember that the work of Jesus is FINISHED. Not only has Jesus established a beachhead for us to launch into #Victory—he has provided us with blueprints of the enemy’s plans. In the power of the Holy Spirit and the knowledge of how the enemy operates, we defend our thoughts and break the cycle of sin and temptation! Look at the seven steps below that lead to the spiral of sin and temptation so that you can fight the enemy.⁣⁣1. A temptation from the enemy enters our minds.⁣2. We act on that temptation and we sin.⁣3. There is usually momentary pleasure.⁣4. We discover sin’s hook.⁣5. We are met by feelings of frustration guilt and shame.⁣6. “I’m going to win the battle of my mind because I have the power of the finished work of Jesus. I’m standing on victory and I’m going to move from that victory.” ⁣- Louie Giglio—We can all relate to the feeling of having to contend for our thoughts, that's why this truth was so encouraging: Jesus has given us victory at The Cross, and through the power of the Holy Spirit the ability take every thought captive for his glory! Remember, when Jesus died and rose on the third day, he rose to glorious and victorious life both now and forever. When He did, he gave this life to anyone who will put their trust in Him. The battle in our minds is real; it's not something we can push away or ignore. We need to arm ourselves with Paul's reminder in 2 Corinthians 10:5, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." The week, Pastor Louie left us with a  practical challenge. To exercise authority over our thoughts with these five steps: 1. Examine it. Question it. Where did it come from? Does it match up with God's Word?2. Bind that thought before it binds you. Negative, tempting, or fearful thoughts will capture us if we don't take ahold of them first, rooted in the Word to know what God says about them. Let the Scripture sink in your heart and head so that the enemy can't short-circuit your calling or steal your purpose.3. Change the narrative. Don't merely bind the bad but begin to think about whatever is pure and good and lovely and praiseworthy (Phil 4:8) and write a new story.4. Act on that truth.5. Repeat. What is the thought that is binding you today?
