TCF Ep. 440 - Harvey Stein

Harvey Stein is a professional photographer, teacher, lecturer, author and curator based in New York City. He currently teaches at the International Center of Photography and has taught in several undergraduate and graduate photography programs in the past. Stein is a frequent lecturer on photography both in the United States and abroad. He is the Director of Photography at Umbrella Arts Gallery, located in the East Village of Manhattan and has curated 55 exhibits since 2007. His photographs have been widely exhibited in the United States and Europe-83 one-person and over 165 group shows to date. His images are in more than 57 permanent collections including the George Eastman House, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Bibliotheque Nationale. He has had seven books of his photographs published, including Coney Island 40 Years and his latest book, Mexico: Between Life and Death. TCF Ep. 437 - Randal Ford

Randal Ford believes that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. He is obsessed with details, creative collaboration, and chasing a timeless aesthetic. Ford's works have appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, 20 different Texas Monthly covers, and the cover of Communication Arts. To name a few, Ford has been commissioned to create works for brands such as Anheuser Busch, Comcast, Frito Lay, LL Bean, Pepsi, Pfizer, Verizon, & Yeti. Among other accolades, in 2015, 2016, 2017 Ford was named one of the top 200 photographers by Lüerzers Archive. In 2017 his photographs were awarded 1st place and best of show in the International Photo Awards competition. In the fall of 2018 his photographs will be published in a 175 page coffee table book by renowned publisher Rizzoli New York. Throughout his work he's been able to maintain a consistent aesthetic while problem solving, evolving, and molding to clients needs. His laid back and approachable personality keeps him grounded in his passion for creating beautiful work, collaborating with clients, and having fun along the way. His latest personal project and book is titled Animal Kindom. TCF Ep. 436 - Gerald Cyrus

Gerald Cyrus was born in 1957 in Los Angeles, CA and began photographing there in 1984. In 1990 he moved to New York City and obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in 1992. While at SVA, he also interned at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture under the supervision of Deborah Willis. During his time in New York, Cyrus photographed regularly on the streets of Manhattan, Harlem and Brooklyn, and in 1994, he started frequenting the nightclubs in Harlem and photographed the vibrant music scene in that historic neighborhood for over six years. The resulting body of work, entitled "Stormy Monday", was published as a book in 2008. In 2000, Cyrus moved to Philadelphia, PA and began photographing in that city as well as the nearby city of Camden, NJ. He has also photographed extensively in Bahia, Brazil where he was a fellow at the Sacatar Foundation and in New Orleans, LA (before and after Hurricane Katrina) where he has family history. Cyrus currently lives in Philadelphia and teaches part-time at Haverford College. He is also a member of the Kamoinge, Inc. photographers' collective. TCF Ep. 434 - Guy Webster

One of the early innovators of rock-and-roll photography, renowned photographer Guy Webster has spanned the worlds of music, films, and politics in a stellar 40-year career. While shooting album covers and billboards for groups that included The Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel and Chicago, he also photographed such film legends as Rita Hayworth, Dean Martin, and Natalie Wood. As the primary celebrity photographer for hundreds of worldwide magazines, Webster's artistry has captured a vast range of talent and luminaries from Igor Stravinski, Truman Capote and Zubin Mehta to Barbara Streisand, Jack Nicholson, Candice Bergen, Michelle Pfeiffer and Ted Danson. Presidential subjects have included Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Today, Webster is still shooting in his studio in Venice, California, while pursuing his passions for family and vintage motorcycles. A documentary about his photographic work is in progress, with past and upcoming gallery exhibits in Spain, Italy and England, as well as Martha's Vineyard, New York and California. TCF Ep. 433 - Michael Kamber

Michael Kamber has worked as a journalist for more than 25 years. Between 2002 and 2012 he worked for The New York Times covering conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Liberia, the Sudan, Somalia, the Congo and other countries. He has also worked as a writer and videographer for the Times. His photos have been published in nearly every major news magazine in the United States and Europe, as well as in many newspapers. In 2011, Kamber founded the Bronx Documentary Center, an educational space dedicated to positive social change through photography and film. Kamber is an adjunct professor at Columbia University. He is the winner of a World Press Photo award, the Mike Berger Award, the Society of Professional Journalists Deadline Club Award, American Photo Images of the Year and is a member of The New York Times team that won the 2003 Overseas Press Club award. The New York Times has twice nominated Kamber's work for the Pulitzer Prize. TCF Ep. 432 - Matt Payne

Matt Payne is a landscape photographer who grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado and was lucky to have parents that instilled him with a healthy appreciation for the outdoors. He grew up quite poor, which was actually quite a blessing in disguise, as his family vacations involved going camping in the Colorado mountains almost every weekend during the summer. His father took him along on his pursuit to climb Colorado's highest 100 mountains back in the 1980's and helped him climb his first 14,000 ft. mountain at the age of 6. Whenever he can, he heads out into the amazing world to take photos. He feels most connected to the wilderness and the outdoors; however, he also enjoys exploring urban environments for unique perspectives and powerful imagery. He is also the creator of the podcast, "F-Stop, Collaborate, and Listen", a space to have meaningful conversations with other landscape photographers all over the world. Melissa Spitz (b.1988) is a working artist from St. Louis, Missouri, who currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
