The boys watch two films, Legion of Terror (1936) and Black Legion (1937) starring Humphrey Bogart, as well as two radio plays, an episode of True Detective Mysteries (1937) and another entitled "The White Legion" (1938) on the original superhero serial, The Shadow. They compare these representations to the actual white supremacist terrorists and examine how each piece of media reflects the political culture of interwar America in its own way. Though his career was brief, Kuhn amassed tens of thousands of followers and inspired much of the symbolism and look of future groups. He also embodied the very model of the US Nazi huckster as he embezzled funds to supply his vast array of mistresses. Hitler may have hated him, but the legacy of 'zee Bund' lives on.
