Getting to Calm
Our human brains are very complex and we're still trying to figure them out. Different parts are good at some tasks, and not so good at others. However, if we can learn to tap into the more rational parts of our brain, we can gain control and access comfort, peace and joy. In this episode, we talk about "fight, flight, or freeze" responses—sometimes helpful in the short term, but detrimental for the long term! We also discuss how our brain has a natural reaction to threats (perceived or real!), and what we can do to control them. Facts vs. Story
We all go through thousands of experiences every day, each one open to interpretation. Your teenager left their shoes on the floor again—were they being passive agressive or just forgetful? That lady gave you a weird look at the store—or was she just about to sneeze? Sometimes the story we tell is not fact, but our imagination running wild.In this episode, we talk about why humans tell their own stories, what we can to do make sure we are telling ourselves the truth, and how that can affect our lives in a big way.Find us on our website or join our Facebook group. Defining Adversity
Trauma and adversity look different for every person. Loss of a loved one, divorce, PTSD, sexual abuse, basically anything imaginable. But there's no "difficulty requirement"—your hard times are hard, and comparing yourself to someone who "has it worse" doesn't take into account that your feelings are valid and they matter. In this episode, we talk about adversity. What it is, what it isn't, and why we'll all experience it at some part of our lives. You'll also hear us briefly discuss post traumatic growth—finding beauty in the ashes. Trauma isn't something we seek out to become stronger, but it's a reality of life—and since that's so, let's see what we can gain from it! Find us on our website or join our Facebook group.
