What about 10 years? 10, 10, 10. A simple process, sure, but one that allows you to quickly analyze the consequences of our decisions in the short term, medium term, and long term.Learn how to apply this strategy in your own life, and the benefits that mastering it can have! The 3 P's

Everybody loves some good alliteration and abbreviation, which is why we've brought you today's episode—The 3 P's! These three "p" words (personalization, permanence, and pervasiveness), are a quick shorthand from Dr. Martin Seligman (the father of positive psychology) for today's subject. We're going to talk about protective factors—mental strategies to help insulate our minds, to help us build resilience and to weather the storms of life. Join us on today's episode to discuss how these three simple P words can help us shift our perspective, build our mental fortitude, and helps us focus on what is right with us, instead of what's wrong (and to create meaning from what it is we want in life). Thinking Traps (Pt. 2)

In our last episode, we talked about six different mind traps—this week, we'll talk about even more (there's a reason we had to split this topic into two episodes!). Learning to identify what these mind traps are is like being a defensive driver. If you learn what signs make a road dangerous, you can largely avoid pot holes because you know what to look for.In this episode, we share some personal anecdotes to illustrate some more common thinking traps; overgeneralizing, catastophizing, and more.  Getting caught in one of these thinking traps WILL impact your mental health, it WILL impact your self-confidence and your self-esteem and it WILL impact your relationship. So, if you find yourself trapped in a thinking trap, you're in the right place (and if you want to talk about it, definitely reach out!).You can find us on our website and join our Facebook group. Thinking Traps

SNAP! Just like a mouse trap, a thinking trap lures us in and before we know anything is wrong, Recognizing these mental pitfalls is so important that we are going to have to split this over two episodes.Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatté introduced four tenets to resilience which we're going to talk about today: 1) life change is possible, 2) thinking, 3) tunnel vision, and 4) fortune telling. These may seem pretty simple, but recognizing them early can play a huge factor in controlling our thoughts.Find out how to spot this sticky mind bait, strategies to avoid getting stuck there, and don't forget to stick around for part 2! All or Nothing Thinking

If you've been listening to us long enough, you'll see that we are constantly saying our thoughts are 100%. Sometimes it doesn't feel that way— because when we think a thought over and over again, it becomes a belief which actually starts to feel like a fact.It is true and there's nothing we can do about it. Appearing in our mind. What also happens is sometimes our brain. Be efficient. We'll think the same thing over and over and over and over and over again, and develop a pattern of thinking. And this works well if it's a good pattern or a helpful thought, but it's not so great when it's not.Getting stuck in our own thinking like this is called a thinking trap or congnitive distortions now in psychology. We all have patterns that our brain prefers—that's just how the brain is designed. However, it is helpful for us to know what our own thinking traps are. In this episode, we'll discuss how to identify your thinking traps, and how to keep your thoughts more level. As always, don't forget to find us on our website and join our Facebook group. Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness and meditation are two words thrown a lot in the world of mental health. But the question is, how are they different? Simply put, meditation is focusing on nothing and mindfulness is focusing on something (that's an oversimplification, but it's a good start) Studies have shown that both mindfulness and meditation can lower stress, and even help your sleep (did we mention it's free?)! On today's episode of the Building Resilience podcast, we discuss how to practice meditation and mindfulness, the benefits, and the science! As always, don't forget to find us on our website and join our Facebook group. The Four Tendencies

This is an exciting episode for us, because it was based on a book that we refer to all the time—it can make such a big difference in understanding and dealing with relationships of all kinds: with your partner, your kids, your friends, your neighbors...pretty much anyone you meet! The book is The Four Tendencies, by Gretchen Rubin, the author of the well-known book, The Happiness Project. She spent years studying happiness and habits. She found that different strategies were working for different people: some are morning people, some are night people. Some do better when they abstain from things, others do better in moderation. She was curious as to why certain people do certain things, which led her to create this book! This week, we explore the four tendencies. Which tendency do you have? What about the people in your life? And how can knowing that information change how you interact with them?As always, don't forget to find us on our website and join our Facebook group. Languishing

Since 2020 rolled around, there has been a lot of talk about the concept of "languishing". If you haven't heard about it before, it's a state where you're tired and overwhelmed, but you kind of want to do things. You're lacking energy, enthusiasm, and motivation. You're not completely depressed because you do believe that things will eventually get better. "Languishing" was coined by Dr. Corey Keys. It's not depression, but it's the absence and insufficiency of feeling good and functioning well. He said it's when you experience an absence of the good stuff, purpose, belonging, contribution, satisfaction, and interest in life. This absence can feel like a real piercing void in your day to day life. Today, we talk about how to recognize languishing in your own mind, and what strategies you can use to live with it.As always, don't forget to find us on our website and join our Facebook group.
