#289 Corey Taylor, Zakk Wylde & Halestorm (Copenhell Festival)
Episode 289 of Life In The Stocks features highlights from my Live Q&As at this year's Copenhell Festival with Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Zakk Wylde (Pantera) and Halestorm. I had an absolutely incredible time at the festival and definitely intend to go back - whether it's as a performer or a punter. It's one of the best festivals I've ever been to and I'd like to say a huge thank you to Darren, Toke, Jens and the rest of the team for having me along. #287 Amy Jean Roberts (Bottles To The Ground)
Amy Jean Roberts from Bottles To The Ground, the new record label from NOFX's Fat Mike, joins me for Episode 287 of Life In The Stocks to discuss her career in the music industry as assistants to - and collaborators with - Tim Armstrong (Rancid) & Fat Mike. We also discuss her own personal journey and her struggles and triumphs as a partner, a parent and a person. I'm really pleased with the places this conversation went. You can check out the latest Bottle To The Ground release schedule here: https://bottlestotheground.com/ Thanks to Amy for a lovely chat.Follow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram: @mattstocksdjMy first two books (Life In The Stocks Volume One & Two) are also out NOW and available to buy from all reputable online book stores. #286 Joe Sib (Wax/22 Jacks/SideOneDummy Records/Comedian)
My guest this week for Episode 286 of Life In The Stocks is comedian Joe Sib. I first met Joe on the Flogging Molly Cruise back in 2019, and we've been talking about getting him on the podcast for ages. Well, it just so happens that Joe puts out his new mini stand-up special today, so it seemed like the perfect time to finally have him on the show. You'll find a link to watch the special on YouTube below. This guy has stories for days and we barely scratched the surface in this 90 minute interview that you're about to hear. Enjoy!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Et_UoDIGokFollow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram: @mattstocksdjMy first two books (Life In The Stocks Volume One & Two) are also out NOW and available to buy from all reputable online book stores. #285 Nathen Maxwell (Flogging Molly)
My good friend and fellow Flogging Molly shipmate Nathen Maxwell joins me for Episode 285 of Life In The Stocks. We talk about growing up in California, meeting Flogging Molly and joining the band, the history and friendships that exist there, the gratitude that Nathen has for being in a successful touring band, the Salty Dog Cruise, obviously, and Nathen's other musical project with his wife Shelby, Volores. We also get deep and talk about life and the human experience, as I like to do on the show, and we had a great time getting to know each better. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. Happy listening.Follow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram: @mattstocksdjMy first two books (Life In The Stocks Volume One & Two) are also out NOW and available to buy from all reputable online book stores. #284 Chas Palmer-Williams (Lightyear/Solo)
It's always a pleasure welcoming friends onto the podcast, and joining me for Episode 284 of Life In The Stocks is my dear friend of over ten years, the legend that is Chas Palmer-Williams. This is one of the longest and most in-depth interviews I've done in a while, although it's more like like two old friends having a catch up than an interview, as it should be. So buckle, enjoy the ride, and listen to Lightyear if you know what's good for you. Check out the solo record Chas did too, called American Smile, British Teeth. It's like the soundtrack to the Shane Meadows film that never got made.Follow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram: @mattstocksdjMy first two books (Life In The Stocks Volume One & Two) are also out NOW and available to buy from all reputable online book stores. #283 Robin Campbell (UB40)
I'm honoured to be joined by a proper Brummie legend on the show this week, as Robin Campbell from UB40 joins me for Episode 283 of Life In The Stocks to discuss the storied past, complex present, and exciting future of the band. They've been going 45 years this year and sold over 100 million albums to date. But perhaps their greatest achievement is helping to put reggae music on the worldwide map. Not bad for a group of working class lads from Birmingham. As a Birmingham boy myself, I really enjoyed this conversation and was thrilled to have Robin on the show.Follow me on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram: @mattstocksdjMy first two books (Life In The Stocks Volume One & Two) are also out NOW and available to buy from all reputable online book stores. #282 Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns)
Joining me for Episode 282 of Life In The Stocks is Tracii Guns from L.A. Guns. I met Tracii on the Kiss Kruise last year and we've been chatting back and forth on Instagram since then. He's a great guy and I was thrilled to have the chance to sit down and get into a proper deep dive conversation with him for LITS. Be sure to check out the new L.A. Guns album 'Black Diamonds' out April 14. It's as good as anything they've ever done. I've been delving into their back catalogue loads since seeing them live on the Kiss Kruise for the first time, and they're one of the most consistently solid rock 'n' roll bands out there. Tracii is an absolute geezer as well. #280 The Covid Tapes (Lee Dainton)
This week marks three years since the world went into lockdown following the global outbreak of COVID-19. I've been thinking about that strange and surreal time quite a bit recently, and now feels like the right time to share this series of interviews that I did during the first lockdown period for my supporters over on Patreon. I spent a whole month uploading a new episode every weekday, and for each episode I was joined by past podcast guests and friends of the show. We spoke about our mutual lockdown experiences and attempted to make sense of everything that was going on at that time, and each guest handpicked a five-song playlist to the end of the world, hence the name of the series: Soundtrack Apocalypse. I've renamed them The Covid Tapes here. I hope you enjoy this peculiar little trip down memory lane. It still feels like a bit of a dream/nightmare doesn't it?!? Thank "whoever" it's all over now. I'm very thankful to be working again. And I'm extremely grateful to everyone who supported me during this time, especially the Patreon crew without whom I never would've made it. Thank you.
