Show #87: Dr Carrie Jones on going Dutch on your hormones

Ever been told, after getting a hormone test back - whether it was testosterone, estrogen, thyroid hormones, cortisol or anything else, that everything's 'normal' and 'you're fine?' - yet you feel totally NOT FINE? In this week's show I chat to the wonderful Dr Carrie Jones who makes the trickiest of hormone challenges (male or female) feel like a fun puzzle to get to the bottom of - and I'm serious. Imagine turning the talk of hormone woes on its head and making it instead an interesting fun thing to figure out - it was this attitude of Carrie's from following her instagram feed and the generous sharing she does there, that said: I have to have her on the show and shake up the hormone conversation, that's always such a Debbie downer! Carrie is a Naturopathic Physician with a Master's in Public Health having over 12 years in the field of functional and integrative medicine. As Adjunct Faculty for the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), she has taught courses in both Gynaecology and Advanced Endocrinology. She has been the Medical Director for two large integrative clinics in Portland, Oregon and is currently the Medical Director for Precision Analytical, Inc, creators of the most cutting edge hormone test on the market, the DUTCH Test. So, come and listen while Carrie and I discuss the ins and outs of testing, what our results can tell us, how she doesn't believe in Adrenal Fatigue (yes, you heard me right there!) and what it means when your cortisone and cortisol are off kilter. It's such a great chat, and I can't wait to hear what you guys think. I love what the Dutch test can offer us, so I was super thrilled to have Carrie join me for a general in-depth hormone chat as well as a deeper look into the capability of the Dutch test. Show notes and winning a year's worth of coffee can be found over at lowtoxlife.com/podcast - Enjoy the show, Alexx See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Hosted on Acast. Show #86: Gero Leson from Dr Bronner’s: Doing our best in business for Spaceship Earth

Very rarely do you find a company so transparent, so vocal about social and environmental injustice and so good at growing a healthy business, as Dr Bronner's. A family run business from way back, it's one of my favourites for many reasons. I wanted to bring on their VP Gero Leson a phd in environmental science, who works to set up incredible partnerships with communities in developing countries to set up their supply chain. Rarely do you get to look under the hood of a procurement and production cycle like this. It will also highlight that nothing is black and white and yes - shock horror - there can be such a thing as sustainable, ethical palm oil. This is for the nerds who just love digging into how business can be a HUGE part of the change towards a better world. Gero doesn't hold back. SUCH a good chat. I hope you love it and think even more fondly of your humble castile soap the next time you pick it up. Show #83: VP of corporate responsibility at LEGO, Tim Brooks on their 2030 targets

I remember so well seeing the news break that lego were going to be aiming to be new-petroleum-free by 2030, engaging a huge task force of sustainability experts, scientists and industrial designers to work on this project. Today, some 2.5 years late, I chat to Tim Brooks, ex environmental advisor to the City of London, now with LEGO, on how their work is going towards this goal. We can all move mountains, and the big companies of LEGO's size can effect radical change when they move the needle on how the produce their products, so I hope you enjoy this look into what Lego is working to achieve. Show #82: Dr Elise Bialylew on mindfulness

If anyone knows about “this is what I think I want to do” but then climbs that mountain and goes “Oh dear, I think I've been called to do THAT” and has a major career shift, it's me. It was wonderful to meet Elise finally, after having done Mindful In May myself in the past, and discuss her journey from originally becoming a trained Doctor, surgeon and psychiatrist, but feeling to pull to make her principal life's work about teaching mindfulness both in workplaces and creating online spaces and events to motivate a happier and more mindful life. Show #81: Dr Elen Ap Thomas on precocious puberty

In this show I chat to Dr Elen Ap Thomas, an Integrative Doctor based in Queensland, Australia, about a topic that parents in the low tox community wanted to see on the show. We discuss some of the signs in girls and boys that early-onset puberty is occurring, when it's worth investigating, when and how it's possible to delay those early signs and some of the factors that science is starting to show, contribute to it happening in the first place, from our diets to our lifestyles. It's a show designed to educate, not alarm and ensure that our little peeps are supported as they grow, whether they go into puberty early or not. Show #80: Dr Steven Lin and the Dental Diet

For nearly a century we've been told that fluoride is the key to not getting tooth decay, and while there's some research to suggest targeted topical benefit, the real reason for great healthy teeth is exactly what maintains a great healthy body: Largely? It's FOOD. Dr Steven Lin is fresh off his US tour promoting the book and shares an abundance of interesting facts about our teeth, gums, disease, and the myths that orthodontics and getting your wisdom teeth out are just part in parcel of life! This week I have the pleasure of talking to Dr Terry Wahls about her journey towards her diagnosing of progressive MS, how she initially treated it, when she realised things needed to change and how she then went onto become one of the leading researchers on how diet and lifestyle can impact neurological diseases and other diseases.
