The Way They Were
W!ZARD Studios
The podcast where every celebrity split is the one that got away. Each week comedians Grainne Maguire and Chantal Feduchin-Pate take a deep dive into a celebrity breakup, chosen by a special guest, that still lingers in their hearts and minds. We scour interviews, over-analyse iconic pictures and search for meaning in post-breakup media statements. Celeb gossip hounds will feel right at home, but really anyone who's experienced a breakup can appreciate hearing how the rich and famous take heartbreak to a whole new level. They might uncouple ‘amicably with love and respect for one another’ - but we never get over these lost loves! Join us every Friday for a new episode.

67: Dave The Bear: Kerry Katona & Brian McFadden
In today's episode of The Way They Were, Grainne and Chantal welcome some glamour to the show in the form of cabaret and burlesque star Dave the Bear! Now what kind of guest would such a character bring for us?Here's a clue, they definitely wore boot-cut jeans (according to Grannie though, so did Anthony and Cleopatra), they were the boy and girl band royalty, and they certainly made us whole again (for a little while anyway), it HAS to be Brain McFadden and Kerry Katona! Yes, thanks to Dave, we revel in the time Boyzone and Atomic Kitten collided, before it all went a bit Jeremy Kyle and Take-a-Break and before anyone even thought of venturing into the jungle. How did it all start and how long did our star-crossed lovers have to keep it all a secret from the public AND Louis Walsh for? This episode answers all the questions and serves as yet another warning to anyone thinking of tying the knot before the age of 40. 66: Russell Kane: Henry VIII & Catherine of Aragon
Well, hey nonny NO, you did NOT just create a whole, new religion just because you didn't fancy your wife anymore and the grass was green(sleeves)er on the other side of the fence? That Henry VIII sure has a lot to answer for, including Brexit, in the opinion of this week's incredible guest, comedian and self-confessed romance king, Russell Kane. Yes, this week, we're going all Tudor on your ass, as we get down into the business of KH the 8th and his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, who was selfish enough not to provide a male heir to the throne, so frankly, what else did she expect than being flung onto the scrap heap – it wasn’t the worst thing Henry ever did to his wife, after all.As always Grainne and Chantal revel in the mess and let's face it, the drama of today's royal family has NOTHING on the escapades of this lot. So, grab your lute, don your ruff, and get this Tudor feast, fit for a king into your ears. Don't forget to join Chantal and Grainne at this year's London Podcast festival on 15th September, with special guest, Christopher Hall! 65: Max Davis: Paul Simon & Carrie Fisher
The force is definitely with us for this episode, as Chantal and Grainne are the bridge over the troubled romance of Carrie Fisher and Paul Simon! Yes, this week's guest, comedy writer Max Davis takes us into the amazing world of being young, famous and short in 1970s/80s New York, and what a scene it was - especially if Debbie Reynolds happened to be your mother...As well as being a great story for us all, Max gets to imagine a world where he hangs out with his longtime crush on a wild night out with our erstwhile couple - let your imaginations run wild - Max certainly has. 64: Maisie Adam: Drake & Rihanna
Dry those tears, as your favourite celebrity romance podcast is BACK in your ears. Even Grainne and Chantal must stop with their hot girl summers when September strikes, as there are so many more failed showbiz romances to sift through and joining them with their own sieve is the wonderful, Maisie Adam! Even though Maisie brought us a great couple to crack into, we could probably do her for trade descriptions, as this week's 'romance' is a little one-sided, to say the least.Get ready to cringe through your feet, as we take a deep dive into the years old drunk dial that was Drake and Rihanna’s 'relationship' - believe us, it'll make you feel much better about any time you may have ill-advisedly shot your shot...the schadenfreude is on us and it's good to be back.Don't miss your chance to see The Way They Were LIVE! They are at this year's London Podcast Festival on Friday September 15th and are DELIGHTED to be joined by Christopher Hall, fresh from his sell-out run at The Edinburgh Fringe - The Way They Were • Comedy • Kings PlaceAND they will be at The Museum of Comedy on 25th October, special guest TBA - Museum of Comedy - What's On Learn more about your ad choices. 63: Glyn Fussell: Boy George & Jon Moss
For our season finale, we're travelling back to the 80s to explore the once top-secret relationship between Culture Club's Boy George and Jon Moss. Thanks to George's memoirs, our eyes have been opened to this deeply complicated love story, but during this episode we discover this story majorly lacked the 'love' part. There's no one we'd rather spend our final episode with than the fabulous curator, party maker and self-professed Boy George aficionado, Glyn Fussell! Not only does Glyn bring the laughs, but he also fills this episode with compassion as we acknowledge the shift in queer culture and representation since the 1980s and the effects of overnight fame.Grainne and Chantal return in September for another series of The Way They Were, but in the meantime, don't be a stranger! Hit them up on social media and send your thoughts to thewaytheywerepod@gmail.com. Thanks as always for your unwavering support and see you shortly! XXP.S. LONDONERS! Come see The Way They Were live for the very first time on September 15th. 61: Rebecca Humphries: Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham
In today's episode of The Way They Were, the fabulous, actor and writer Rebecca Humphries joins Grainne and Chantal and if the 'rumours' are to be believed, have an amazing couple for us to delve into the world of. No I won't tell you sweet little lies, because we are heading into the catastrophe that is Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham and the heady days of Fleetwood Mac.In this epic tale of sex, drugs and rock n' roll, we find out why our love struck pair eventually decided to go their own way and who thrived and who simply survived ... although no prizes for guessing the outcome of that. So, without further ado, press play and don't stop thinking about tomorrow while you're at it! 60: Ben Miller: Oscar Wilde & Bosie Douglas
We're doing things a little differently this week, as this week's guest unwittingly becomes host, as our Grainne spent long days and nights researching the wrong couple! This however doesn't hinder the show in any way, shape or form, as Ben Miller host of the brilliant Bad Gays Podcast, brings us the relationship woes of none other than Oscar Wilde and his ne'er do well of a lover, Bosie! It would seem that Grainne had already done lifelong research on this doomed affair and Chantal, as ever, says what we're all thinking.... now, either those curtains go, or I do.
