In this episode, Nate Claiborne and Theologian-in-Residence Dr. Michael Allen give an overview of Romans 9-11. Rather than an interruption in Paul's argument, these chapters answer a serious objection to all that Paul has said in Romans 1-8. Before he can move into the more practical matters of Romans 12-16, Paul deals with the question of the promises to Israel and how God's word has not failed.

In this episode, Nate Claiborne and Theologian-in-Residence Dr. Michael Allen provide a recap of Romans 1-8 to prepare for going back to Romans this coming Sunday. Mike gives several historical examples of how Romans was received and impacted key figures in church history. Then, Mike and Nate talk through the structure and highlights of Romans 1-8, ending with the question of why Paul seems to take a detour in 9-11 to talk about the fate of Israel. John Collins. Likewise, Redeeming Science and Interpreting Eden both by Vern Poythress are useful for wrestling with issues related to the early chapters of Genesis.For reading the book of Genesis as a whole well, we would recommend the commentaries by Derek Kidner and Bruce Waltke. Also helpful are the commentaries by Tremper Longman and John Walton. However, readers may find some of their views on the early chapters at odds with traditional interpretations.
