White Lotus & Bridget Jones
Happy Friday and even happier Everything Is Content day! This week the pod is missing our beloved Ruchira (on hols) but are determined to put on a good and- frankly chaotic- show until she’s back in our arms.First up we talk about everyone’s favourite luxury murder show White Lotus. Who are we loving, hating and hoping ends up dead by the end? Plus- is this latest series a familiar high-end hotel romp or a little too much of what we’ve seen before? Then we get firmly stuck into the latest Bridget Jones instalment. Which of us cried the most? Who got more drunk? What did we think of Mark Darcy’s demise? Which hunk did we want her to end up with? And is Bridget Jones a feminist hero, a self-hating hack or a secret third option? Listen to find out!We hope you like (love) this episode just the way it is and if so… why not leave us a 5* rating and/or tell the world about us on social media? We’re @everythingiscontenpod and you are wonderful for reading this far. See you next weds! Porn - A Deep Dive (Part Two)
Happy Friday! Last week we dropped the first part of our EIC special on porn, looking at the creators and platforms taking over the industry. This week our (highly anticipated) second part looks at the people behind the screens: the consumers.First up, why is porn addiction such a divisive topic among academics? And does it even exist? We answer that question and look at the deeper issues contributing to widespread compulsive porn-use.Next, we look at the rise of non-consensual user-generated porn i.e. deepfakes and revenge porn, and the fact young people are accessing this content. Finally, ethical porn has promised to right the wrongs of an often exploitative, discriminatory industry. Just how true is this, and can porn ever ethically be consumed? In Production Partnership with Cue Podcasts-----------Psyche: If you think you’ve got a porn addiction, you probably haven’tBBC: Is 'porn addiction' a real thing?Children’s Commissioner: ‘A lot of it is actually just abuse’- Young people and pornographyChannel 4: My Deepfake PornThe Guardian: Vicky Pattison: My Deepfake Sex Tape review Girlguiding: Girls face a crisis of confidence in an unequal world Hosted on Acast. Porn - A Deep Dive (Part One)
Happy Valentines Day - as a special treat, we've got a double deep dive for you - Everything Is Content, and some things, are Adult Content. This week on the podcast we’re delving into the world of OnlyFans and digital sex work for part one of our two-part Porn series. In this instalment we are going to be talking about sexy subscription services, the Lily Phillips documentary and Bonnie Blue’s banned OnlyFans video. So possibly more than anything else in the history of the pod, we have been asked by you at home, to talk about OnlyFans- the London based subscription service for content creators that has seen global success and cultural notoriety since it was founded 9 years ago, becoming especially popular with adult performers and sex workers producing pornography and selling other digital sexual services. We discuss a Substack by the very popular writer, creator, PHD candidate, and podcaster Maalvika Bhat, titled “What OnlyFans Billions reveal about the market value of male desire”, and ask, do we think some men might resent the freedom that OnlyFans allows women in terms of monetising sexuality? Why do women get so much of the “blame” for OF’s popularity when it’s men who are the biggest customer base? Can a site like OF alter desire on a broad scale? Are we maybe even seeing this happen? We then go on to discuss 23 year old Lily Phillips and her documentary with Josh Pieters, as well as another key figure in this conversation, Bonnie Blue, a 25-year-old sex worker and content creator who became even more famous for claiming to have slept with 1,057 men in 12 hours. Tune in next week for part-two, where we will be looking at the consumers of porn, the dangerous misuse of it, and whether or not it can ever, truly, be ethical. In Production Partnership with Cue PodcastsWhat OnlyFans billions reveal about the market value of male desire:https://maalvika.substack.com/p/what-onlyfans-billions-reveal-abouthttps://magdalene.substack.com/p/the-tech-oligarchy-is-stealing-yourLily Philips documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFySAh0g-MI&ab_channel=JoshPietershttps://www.joe.co.uk/news/bonnie-blues-1000-men-stunt-video-banned-from-onlyfans-474458https://graziadaily.co.uk/life/opinion/ashley-james-bonnie-blue/ Hosted on Acast. Everything in Conversation: Lily Collins & The Ethics of Surrogacy
It's the extra episode!! This week we're diving into the most divisive topic we've done yet: the ethics of surrogacy. Our DMs were flooded with requests for this, after Lily Collins and her husband got a huge amount of backlash for sharing the news that they'd welcomed a baby into the world through surrogacy.Thank you so much for your thoughts on this one. Just a reminder to follow us on the gram (IG, Insta, whatever you want to call it) to join in the discourse. We read out listener messages to help shape our own opinions and reflections in these Wednesday episodes.IG AND TIKTOK: @everythingiscontentpod-------It’s no wonder millennial women are annoyed by Lily Collins’s surrogacy – they can’t afford their own kidsLike Lily Collins, I welcomed my children through surrogacy. Bianca Uncensori, Amandaland & Doechii
It's TIIIIIMEEEEE for Everything Is Content - Happy Friday EIC heads, we did it, another week bites the dust.As HUGE Motherland fans, we were eagerly anticipating the new BBC spin off Amandaland. The sitcom, produced by another love of our life, Sharon Horgan, follows Amanda (the leader of the alpha-mum’s from the original show, with her perfectly blow-dried blonde hair, insufferable lack of self-awareness and yet somehow endearing charm) who is now divorced and has re-located from Chiswick to South Harlesden with her teenagers. She deals with modern motherhood horrors like teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts and eco-anxiety, as well as establishing herself as an interiors influencer with her new business ‘sensuous’. Joanna Lumley, who plays Felicity, Amanda’s mother, is her best self as an ab-fab-esque ex model. The show has ginormous boots to fill, so we ask, has it lived up to the hype?Next up - this year's Grammys... Two people who apparently did not stay long enough to enjoy themselves were Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and his wife Bianca Censori, who showed up, stood for photos and then were apparently- if rumours are to be believed- asked to leave the ceremony following Bianca’s outfit reveal. We discuss our reaction to her fit - or lack there of - and ask whether this is a sign of something horrible and sinister happening in front of our eyes, or if it’s just a display from two people who are equally invested in giving us all a good show.Lastly, one of the more gorgeous moments from the Grammy’s, was Tampa rapper Doechii getting her well-deserved flowers, winning best rap album and in the process becoming one of three women to win the award. We discuss her beautiful speech, her sensational lyricism, and why we are so pleased to have her in our ears.Aaaand, if you're happy to have us in your ears... a 5* review wherever you listen would mean the world, Thank you so much in advance <3 High Fidelity 2020 SeriesHigh Fidelity FilmIn Memoriam - Alice WinnThe Midnight Library - Matt Haig (audiobook)Search Party AmandalandThe Naked Truth About Bianca Censori’s Grammys Look - Raven Smith for VogueDoechii Reigns Supreme on ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ - Rolling StoneDoechii is irreverent, raunchy and hilarious on Alligator Bites Never Heal — album review FT Hosted on Acast. Everything in Conversation: Lola Young And The Hunt For Nepo Babies
Happy hump day EIC heads! As a reward for making it halfway to the weekend here’s a brand spanking episode of Everything In Conversation for you- and it’s a doozy. This week we’re discussing a new branch of the nepo baby discourse that sprouted after 24-year-old singer and Messy internet sensation Lola Young was “outed” as being the niece of mega-successful children’s author Julia Donaldson (e.g. the creator of The Gruffalo). This revelation sparked conversations online about whether this connection was enough to open doors, if we even should be labelling Young a nepo baby, and what having a rich or high profile relative can mean when navigating a career in the arts. Armed with a pile of brilliant listener messages we try to find some answers, as well as getting stuck into the complications of the UK class system, code-switching, the sexism inherent in the term nepo baby and what we think we should all actually be talking about instead. Thanks so much for listening and/or taking part in this In Conversation episode. If you want to be a part of next week’s discussion just follow us on IG @everythingiscontentpod. We’d also love if you could leave us a rating or a review or even share us on socials- it means the world and helps us grow!O, R, B xPrince Charles Cinema - Sign the petitionVulture : How a Nepo Baby Is BornThe i Paper : Here’s why you shouldn’t call me a nepo baby Square Mile : Eve Austin Hosted on Acast. Loud Luxury, Crying On The Internet & Spying On Each Other
TGIF and TGIEICD (thank god it's Everything Is Content Day... is this gonna catch on?)This week, Beth, Ruchira and Oenone dip their toe in the fashion discourse, if 2025 Haute Couture is anything to go by, then quiet luxury and stealth wealth might be being booted out for loud luxury, extravagance and labels, sorry Sofia Richie Grainge! Next up, Selena Gomez posted a tearful video on Instagram Stories on Monday, before quickly deleting the post. In the video, she responded to the US' nationwide immigration raids over the weekend, which saw the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest 956 people on Sunday — the largest number of arrests on a single day under Trump. He announced several extreme executive orders on immigration from his first day. US Senate candidate Sam Parker called to 'deport Selena Gomez' on X, while the left basically called her self-involved. They ask, why do you think we’re so cynical of emotional outbursts online? And last but by no means least, is society shifting now towards intentional and consensual round the clock tracking? Beth found a fascinating piece called “We are all Big Brother now: The largest system of surveillance isn’t run by the government or corporations. It’s the grass-roots panopticon we’re using to judge one another.” It was written by Alan Levinovitz, and published in the Boston Globe last June.
