They’ve tried to pass legislation based on the terrible Dinesh D’Souza documentary 2000 Mules. The conspiracy theories have gotten so crazy that a legislator named Liz Harris was actually expelled for helping promote a wild conspiracy theory involving the Arizona governor, a Mexican Cartel, and the Mormon Church. And of course Arizona is the home of Kari Lake, the former tv news reporter tuned Gubernatorial candidate. She has been busy trying unsuccessfully to overturn the election she lost, writing a book that includes a deranged kidnapping dream sequence, and inadvertently posting evidence of possible crimes her team may be involved in. After years of delays, the film “Sound of Freedom'' has finally hit theaters. The movie stars majorly pilled QAnon-promoting actor Jim Caveizel. He portrays Tim Ballard, the founder of the anti sex trafficking organization Operation Underground Railroad. This film is bound to be a big boon for Tim Ballard. He is a former Department of Homeland security agent, but starting about a decade ago he made a name for himself thanks to stories of bold, daring missions helping rescue abducted children and arresting traffickers. Sex trafficking is in fact a very real and serious problem that is being actively fought by many governmental and nongovernmental organizations. But investigations into Ballard discovered that he exaggerates or sometimes outright fibs about his role in helping victims of trafficking. Similarly, Operation Underground Railroad claims partnerships with law enforcement and corporations that aren’t actually real. QAnon is the source of many bizarre tales in the real world. But few are more bizarre than the tale of Romana Didulo, a Filipino-Canadian woman who claims to be the Queen of Canada. Since her appearance in 2020, Didulo has convinced many people that she is the monarch of Canada and also an alien. And that further, she is leading the fight against the worldwide cabal. She issues royal decrees, calls upon health workers and politicians to be executed, and convinces people that her government is making all public utilities free. Sometimes, it’s fine to be wary about calling a belief system or a group of people a cult. But in this case, it’s clear that this is a dangerous cult that has and continues to harm many people. In the ‘00s there were three big Conspiracy theory movies on the internet: the 9/11 conspiracy theory film Loose Change, the multi-conspiracy film Zeitgeist, and the illuminati and conspirituality film Esoteric Agenda. Esoteric Agenda is perhaps less famous than the other two, but it was just as impactful for the first generation of internet users who watched videos online. On this episode, we talk about the movie and its creator Ben Stewart. Stewart was the singer/songwriter for an up-and-coming but unsigned band called Hierosonic. While Stewart initially made conspiracy videos to discuss topics in his songs, he soon discovered his YouTube clips were making a bigger impact than his music did.
