A Conversation with Morris Pearl - Patriotic Millionaires

Morris Pearl exudes expertise, awareness and wisdom. Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and previously an MD at BlackRock (one of the largest investment firms in the world), today he shares with me, to share with you, our listeners, the amazing facts that have led to record levels of global inequality, the root cause to social unrest.Within this episode, Morris and I discussed the origins of the Patriotic Millionaires and their newest book Tax the Rich: How Lies, Loopholes, and Lobbyists Make the Rich Even Richer, whilst he also provides a rare insider’s view of how the rich and powerful have rigged an economy and political system in their favour whilst everyone else are left to foot the bill. History has shown us time and time again what happens when money and power is concentrated within the hands of too few for too long. And by allowing millionaires, billionaires, and corporations to control the economy and rig it in their favour, we know doesn't turn out well for anyone, including the rich. This is an amazing conversation you’re not going to want to miss!! So without further ado, please sit back, relax and we do hope you enjoy. Kathryn Hymes: The 'Great Resignation’ Misses the Point

In today’s episode we chat to the wonderful Kathryn Hymes. Kathryn is a computational linguist, co-founder of Thorny Games, and a writer whose work on language, technology, and music has appeared in The Atlantic, The New York Times and more recently Wired. On November 1st 2021, Kathryn wrote an article entitled, the ‘Great Resignation’ Misses the Point, as around the world, people are quitting their jobs in record numbers and bosses are scrambling to figure out why. The phrase itself, originated in early May, at a time in which Professor Anthony Klotz, warned that “The Great Resignation is coming” as part of an interview held with Bloomberg.A few weeks later, the Bureau for Labour Statistics confirmed, a record 4 million Americans had left their jobs in April. The trend proved to be a global one, as within the UK, job vacancies grew to an all-time high in July and September, with available posts surpassing 1.1 million. Suddenly, people were reaching for ways to refer to this new phenomenon unfolding before them—to brand it and to make sense of it.Within this episode, Kathryn and I discussed the origins of her article, and how it forms part of a much wider transformation taking place within the global society today. We also discuss, how by embracing an era of narrative, we can derive more meaning by focusing on the root causes rather than a simple slogan. This is a truly wonderful conversation that you’re not going to want to miss!! So without further ado, please sit back, relax and we do hope you enjoy.Links: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-05-10/quit-your-job-how-to-resign-after-covid-pandemichttps://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/09/4-million-people-quit-their-jobs-in-april-to-find-better-work.htmlhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58881124https://www.wired.com/story/great-resignation-misses-the-point/https://thornygames.comhttps://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2021/05/family-secret-language-familect/618871/https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/27/arts/music/violin-music-chop.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/29/business/how-facebook-taught-its-search-tool-to-understand-people.html Hosted on Acast. Prof. John Ashton CBE - Coronavirus lessons learnt to date

In today’s podcast, we speak to the amazing Professor John Ashton CBE, one of the world’s leading experts in the field of public health and author of the book, ‘Blinded by Corona.’ Professor Ashton is a British doctor and academic who has held positions at the University of Southampton, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the University of Liverpool School of Medicine and also as Regional Director of Public Health for North-West England for 13 years. On February 1st 2020, Professor Ashton was one of the first voices to sound the alarm of a global pandemic via an interview held with British broadcaster, Sky News. During the interview, he mapped out the need for urgent and swift action, at a time the UK were witnessing 83 British nationals return from Wuhan, landing at RAF base Brize Norton, and the countries first confirmed cases of coronavirus we being identified in York. It proved to be a decisive moment, as Professor Ashton was asked by the Crown Prince of Bahrain, to join Bahrain’s COVID-19 Task Force and provide hands on training and knowledge to the countries coronavirus response. Bahrain alongside Taiwan, South Korea, New Zealand and Singapore would go on to be one of the few countries who provided a beacon of hope, in respect to their handling of the coronavirus pandemic so far.How well a population can migrate beyond a pandemic, will depend on preparation, resilience, openness, transparency, trust, leadership, communication, cooperation and crucially the mobilisation of the public to act with evidence and science. Chatting to Professor Ashton was an absolute pleasure, this is an amazing episode and one not to be missed. So without further ado, please sit back, relax and we do hope you enjoy.
