(Matthew 19: 16-26).Introduction.16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?” 17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but God, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 He said to Him, “Which ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honour your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ ” 20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19: 16-26)The Rich Young Ruler. What About the Commandments.A Reality Check.SummarySupport the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Bonus Episode - The Real Saint Patrick. (Episode 494)
Send us a textHAPPY SAINT PATRICKS DAY.This is a free taster Episode of the Forthcoming 2000 Years of Christian Thought Podcast series - coming soon. The Real Saint Patrick.Saint Patrick is an important figure in Christian history who continues to be celebrated by Christians around the world today. He was a fifth-century missionary and church leader who is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. Saint Patrick's life and teachings offer valuable lessons that are still relevant to Christians today. One of the reasons Saint Patrick is still important today is his commitment to spreading the gospel message. He believed that everyone, regardless of their social status or background, deserved to hear about the love of God. This message is still relevant today, as Christians are still called to share the good news of Jesus with those around them.Patrick's life also offers a model of Christian faithfulness in the face of hardship. He endured many challenges and trials throughout his life, including being kidnapped and enslaved as a teenager. Despite these difficulties, Patrick remained steadfast in his faith and continued to spread the gospel message wherever he went. Christians today can draw inspiration from his example to remain faithful to God even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Finally, Saint Patrick's legacy is a reminder of the importance of cultural diversity within the Christian faith. He recognized the value of Irish culture and incorporated elements of it into his teachings. Today, we are called to embrace and appreciate the diversity of cultures within the church and to recognize the value that each unique perspective brings to the body of Christ.Welcome to the life of the real Saint PatrickHelp me to continue to make and share great Biblical content everyday.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comTo access the orignal texts of Saint Patricks two written works see below.Confessionshttp://www.confessio.ie/etexts/confessio_english#19Letter to CoroticusLetter to the soldiers of Coroticus | St. Patrick’s ConfessioSupport the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

Matthew Ch 19 Vs 1-9 - Marriage The Highest Ideal. (Episode 491)
Send us a textHelp me to continue to make and share great Biblical content everyday.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comThe Highest Ideal. (Matthew 19: 1-9) Introduction.1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there. 3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” 4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man separate.” 7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses’ command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?” 8 He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for]sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.” (Matthew 19: 1-9)The Jewish Idea of Marriage. Here Jesus is dealing with what was in his day, as it is in our own is a vexed and burning question. Divorce was something about which there was no agreement among the Jews at that time and the Pharisees here were deliberately not only try and trap Jesus, but they were also trying to involve Jesus in the controversy. At this point in world history for 200 years now, no nation had ever had a higher view of marriage than the Jews. Marriage was a sacred, to remain unmarried after the age of twenty, except in order to concentrate upon the study of the Torah, was to break the commandment to "be fruitful and multiply, as they saw it." The Tanach taught, “He who had no children lessened the image of God upon earth."and "When husband and wife are worthy, the glory of God is with them." The Jewish laws of marriage and of was based on the Old Testament scripture, (Malachi 2:16), where God declares, "I hate divorce”. But this hight ideal and actual reality did not go hand in hand. In the time of Jesus there had developed two dangerous and damaging elements.First, in the eyes of Jewish law, a woman was a thing. She was the possession of her father, or of her husband as the case might be. Technically she had no legal rights at all. Most Jewish marriages were arranged either by the parents or by professional matchmakers. A girl might be engaged to be married in childhood and was often engaged to be married to a man whom she had never seen. There was one caveat that when she came to the age of twelve, Support the showTo listen to my monthly church history podcast, subscribe at; https://thehistoryofthechristianchurch.buzzsprout.com For an ad-free version of my podcasts plus the opportunity to enjoy hours of exclusive content and two bonus episodes a month whilst also helping keep the Bible Project Daily Podcast free for listeners everywhere support me at;|PatreonSupport me to continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! 8 “If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. (Matthew 18: 7-9)The Shepherd and The Lost Sheep.10 “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. 11 For[c] the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.12 “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13 And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
