I have DOR and had my right fallopian tube removed after an ectopic. What IVF protocol should I consider next? (Ask The Egg Whisperer)
In this Ask The Egg Whisperer episode, Elena sent in a question. Here’s what she asked, “I'm 33 years old and overall good health. I've been trying to conceive for about two years.. First I tried naturally; then I did three rounds of Clomid. I finally got pregnant, but it was ectopic. They removed my right tube. I tried naturally with Clomid for three more months. My REI suggested IVF due to DOR (decreased ovarian reserve). I then did two cycles of IVF, but no luck. My husband's sperm analysis is good. What protocols should I try next with my DOR? What can I do to improve lining receptivity and egg quality?" Tune in to hear my answer to Elena's question, and to other listener questions. How to Avoid the IVF Catastrophe of OHSS with guest Dr. Nichole Barker
As part of the IVF cycle, patients are given hormones which stimulates the ovaries to allow all the possible follicles and eggs to grow. The good news is that this often allows us to capture as many healthy eggs as possible in one cycle, giving a patient a better chance at a healthy embryo. One possible side effect is Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome. Dr. Nichole Barker of Seattle Reproductive Medicine joins me on the podcast today to talk all about OHSS. What do you need to know before IVF? What are the symptoms of OHSS? What’s the protocol for a patient (and her doctor) should she have symptoms?⠀ Do you have questions about IVF?Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. Most Commonly Asked IVF Questions
I get asked questions about IVF daily, from my patients and from those seeking treatment elsewhere in the United States and beyond. While the steps involved in IVF are generally the same, the factors to consider and the patient’s needs are all unique. While I can’t cover all scenarios in a single show (or blog post), I do want to recap some of the most common questions I get and answer some specific inquiries that were emailed to me. There’s a chance you have the same question as someone else. Read all of the show notes on Dr. Aimee's website Do you have questions about IVF?Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. I'm doing an FET cycle next week. Should I be taking low-dose aspirin (Ask The Egg Whisperer)
In this Ask The Egg Whisperer episode, Ryan sent in a question. Here’s what she asked, “I'm going into my frozen embryo cycle next week. You've mentioned that you have your patients take low-dose aspirin. I did an ERA cycle last month. My nurse told me it was up to me if I wanted to take it. I'm a type of person that likes yes or no answers during this process. Should I take it even though it wasn't recommended? My baseline ultrasound is next week, and I'm curious when to start the aspirin and when to stop taking it." Tune in to hear my answer to Ryan's question, and to other listener questions. We're doing IVF, and I am 41. We've had two unsuccessful cycles. Should my husband do genetic testing? (Ask The Egg Whisperer)
In this Ask The Egg Whisperer episode, Zoe sent in a question. Here’s what she asked, “I have a question about genetic testing. I'm 41. First round, we got 33 eggs retrieved, 19 fertilized, eight PGS tested, and only one normal. This was transferred, but wasn't successful. Same thing with a second cycle. I thought that was a problem with my chromosomes. So I had the karyotype test, which came back normal. My husband has two healthy sons from his previous marriage, so the doctor didn't think it was worth him having the test. Do we just accept that age is the problem here and my eggs aren't good quality? Should we just be happy with our one healthy embryo or should my husband do the karyotype?" Tune in to hear my answer to Zoe's question, and to other listener questions. Do you have questions about IVF?Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. Three Makes Baby: How to Parent Your Donor Conceived Child
On the journey to growing a family, more and more people are choosing donor eggs or sperm as an option. As a community, it's time to further the conversation about how to embrace donor conception as an option because the fact is: every woman will run out of eggs at some point in her life, and it doesn't change the fact that she may still want to grow her family. I'm delighted to have author, and therapist, Jana Rupnow on the podcast this week to talk about donor conception. Find the full show notes on my website. Click here. How Old Is 'Too Old' To Have A Baby?
If you’re hoping to get pregnant at some point, a question on your mind may be, “how old is too old to have a baby?” It’s a question I get all of the time, and so I want to shed some light on factors to consider when it comes to age and your fertility. One of the things you’ll want to look at is your Chronological Age versus your Biological Age. One will tell you the age of your eggs based on how long you’ve been on the planet (chronological), and one will give a sense of the age of your eggs based on your age, genetics, and environmental factors (biological). Some women’s eggs age faster or slower than others, and you can determine that by getting your hormones checked (the “H” of the TUSHY method). Visit TUSHYMethod.com for more information. In this episode, I am also sharing what I like to call my Egg Whisperer pearls of wisdom, which are six things you should be aware of about your fertility and how they change over time. I've freezing my eggs and embryos (with donor sperm) to preserve my fertility as a single woman. I want to become a mother. Should I try a round of IUI first, or move right into an embryo transfer? (Ask The Egg Whisperer)
In this Ask The Egg Whisperer episode, Penny sent in a question. Here’s what she asked, “I'm 38 and a half. In the past six months, I've done three egg retrieval to preserve my fertility. In cycle one, I had 15 eggs frozen. Cycle two, four embryos with donors from one normal five AB one, lone mosaic, five DB. Cycle three, seven embryos. Five day five, one day six, one day seven waiting for PGT results. I'm hoping to start a family as a single mom by choice. I want to try to conceive as soon as next month after having an HSG. I ultimately want to have two kids, maybe both with the same donor or possibly with a partner with my frozen eggs, depending on life unfolds. And my fertility doctor recommended trying at least one IUI now that I've eggs and embryos banked, because I could possibly avoid the cost of a transfer and avoid shots. This sounds appealing, but shots sound terrifying. Would you recommend trying IUI with donor sperm first? What are the pros and cons? If yes. How many IUIs would you recommend before moving to a transfer?" Tune in to hear my answer to Penny's question, and to other listener questions. Do you want to learn more about Egg Freezing?
