Gut Health, Meal Prep, and Fertility with Julie Nguyen of Methodology

I encourage all of my patients to find what I refer to as a "cabana boy." I like the idea of someone fanning them with a big palm leaf, and taking care of their every need while they relax and take it easy during fertility treatment. Since it can be hard to find a good cabana boy these days, I am always on the lookout for ways to make things easier for my patients. Still, eating right is super important during fertility treatment, AND meal prep and planning can be one more thing to add to your "plate" during an already busy time. When I found out about Methodology, I knew I had to have CEO Julie Nguyen on The Egg Whisperer Show. I know you'll be inspired by Julie's story of how she started Methodology as a way to eat better, and eat healthier, while still having quick and easy options for a busy life. In this episode you will learn about how gut health impacts your overall health, easy ways to eat a cleaner diet, and how some of those ailments (eczema, asthma, and sometimes sleep issues) you have might be the result of what you're eating.. Our current culture provides so many opportunities to pick up fast and processed foods, and while that seems like a faster option, it's not always your best option. I hope you'll join Julie and I as we talk about ways to fix this, especially during a time when you are looking for ways to eat healthier and have easy food prep options. Julie Nguyen is the Founder & CEO of Methodology, a company that makes high-quality, fully cooked meals for busy professionals. Julie holds a BA in Economics from Stanford, and started Methodology after discovering that her own diet was negatively impacting her health and causing eczema, asthma, and poor sleep. Six years, Two nutritionists, 3 personal trainers, and an enormous excel sheet later, Julie had unlocked the keys to tracking her own eating habits and that was the start of Methodology. Your Egg Thawing Party: What Happens When it's Time for the Big Unfreeze?

Egg freezing is IVF without the F. You go through a standard cycle of In Vitro Fertilization in which you take hormone shots that stimulate the growth of eggs. A doctor like me then extracts your eggs through a simple surgical procedure, and I work with an embryologist to preserve your eggs in liquid nitrogen until you're ready to use them. So the big question is what happens now that you're ready to use your eggs? In other words, what are the steps towards fertilization (or as I like to say, what the F?) Step 1. Locate Your Eggs Step 2: Decide if you want to unfreeze all your eggs. Step 3. Complete Your Preconception Testing (follow the TUSHY Method) Step 4: Complete Your Infectious Disease Labs Step 5: Implantation Testing Step 6: Make Embryos (and decide if you want to do genetic testing on your embryos) Step 7: Decide Whether You Want to Transfer Fresh or Frozen Embryos Click here to get the full show notes and transcript Would you like to learn about Egg Freezing?Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The Egg Freezing Class. What to do When Your Frozen Embryo Transfer Fails with Dr. Meivys Garcia

Dr. Meivys Garcia is joining me on the podcast today! She is an amazing Canadian fertility doctor, and she's guiding us through her approach to fertility care when a frozen embryo transfer doesn't work. She will describe every step, one at a time. We will also get personal. Knowing the heartbreak of having failed embryo transfers during her own fertility journey, Dr. Garcia knows all too well what it is like to be a fertility patient. She's going to share her journey and share her wisdom based on her experience as a patient and as a fertility expert. I'm going to be honest and open about this; one of the hardest parts of walking the fertility journey with patients is when we have loss. Whether that be the loss of a pregnancy or the loss of a frozen embryo, it's heart wrenching for me, and for the patient. Today's podcast episode will be about holding space for loss, and how to move on when you've had difficult news. It's about what you can learn from the unfortunate events. It's also about the hope and courage it takes to be a fertility patient, and the admiration that Dr. Garcia and I have for every patient we've worked with. Embryo Donation: One Doctor's Story with guest Dr. Paula Amato

In today's Egg Whisperer Show Podcast, I'm so excited to be joined by Dr. Paula Amato. She is a fertility specialist who froze embryos in her 30s using sperm from an anonymous donor. Later, Dr. Amato decided to donate her embryos. She shared about this journey and what she learned as a fertility doctor in a recent article published in Fertility and Sterility titled: "The fertile window: what donating my embryos taught me about being a fertility doctor." We're going to talk all about her decision to donate her embryos, what looking into the genetics of those embryos taught her, and what she learned from the process. It's an amazing story, and it's interesting to hear a fertility specialist talk about her experience as both a doctor, and a patient. Dr. Paula Amato is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She also is a Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility Specialist and has over 33 years of experience in the medical field. She graduated from University of Toronto medical school, and did her fellowship at UC San Diego. Thank you for joining me, Paula! 9 Things That Increase Your Risk of Infertility

If you know me, you know that I hate the word infertility. I believe that everyone who walks through my doors is fertile and no matter what we learn, can be a parent. Fertility is often taken for granted. It's precious. It declines over time, and there are some well studied factors, nine that I highlight here, that put it at risk. They are: Your DNA Unhealthy BMI Abnormal Sleep Patterns Fibroids Endometriosis Blocked Fallopian Tubes Abnormal Semen Parameters Autoimmune Diseases Reproductive Toxins Want to hear more about each of them? Nuts and Bolts of IVF

IVF is a process that involves creating an embryo in a lab. To help explain the process of creating those embryos, I'm joined today by embryologist, Salu Ribeiro. We're are talking about what happens in the lab, after eggs have been retrieved, what makes a "golden egg," and how fertilization works. We'll explain some of the terms you may hear when you're doing IVF: ICSI (which is Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) and PICSI (which is physiological ICSI, where sperm are first chosen for ICSI). And, we talk about how embryos grow, and what an embryologist looks for in eggs, sperm, and embryos. I love talking to Salu about embryos, and this conversation is a lot of fun!
