Amanda Troxler has been practicing family formation law since 2013. She represents hundreds of Intended Parents, Donors, and Surrogates a year. Additionally, Amanda has personal experience in third party assisted reproduction, having been an egg donor. In today's show we are going to explain what family formation law is. As a fertility patient, it's important that you understand some of the basic legal pieces that you might want to have in place for your journey, whether that be for IVF, or if you're going to be using donor eggs, donor sperm, or using a gestational carrier. On today's Egg Whisperer Show podcast, I'm sharing an interview by MaryJane Carnahan of "The Biggest Ask." She hosted me on Instagram Live, and we talked all about surrogacy. In this interview, we talk about how using a gestational carrier or surrogate has become more common in the last few years and the kinds of patients that should consider using a surrogate. We also discuss how one becomes a gestational carrier, and what the path to becoming one looks like, and how to work with an agency if you are considering one. And, no conversation about surrogacy would be complete without also sharing the psychological considerations of using a gestational carrier, for both the surrogate and for the intended parents. Because the discussion around fertility and treatment has also become more normalized, the use of a gestational carrier has become more accepted in the last decade as well, which has opened up doors for many hopeful parents. Poulyana Pazand-Srouji is an HR corporate professional and mother to a sweet little boy that she and her husband adopted. In 2019, she returned to school to become a Psychotherapist to support couples and women who are struggling with infertility. She is also the author of "I Prayed, God Answered," an inspiring children's book about keeping faith, and waiting to receive the call to adopt a child. Is your pregnancy test negative, again? Let's get real. It sucks when we do everything we can in our power to make something happen, and it just doesn't. If you've ever wanted to get pregnant, and have seen a negative result on the test, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter if it's one month of trying or 2 years…. "Trying to get pregnant" can be painful, and the phrase itself is defeatist. The mindset it establishes is one based on fear vs. love. I like to lead from a place of love, and encourage my patients to think positively. For that reason, I advocate for replacing it with, "preparing for pregnancy." Doesn't it just sound more peaceful, and open to the process? I think so. Regardless if you are on board with my line of thinking, I do want to share some helpful tips and suggestions so that your path to pregnancy is as informed and efficient as possible. Here are my top tips: My #1 tip for preparing for pregnancy is to NOT put blind faith in fertility apps. Tip #2: Develop a resilient, and positive mindset. Tip #3: Make use of science (diagnostic testing) to understand what could be preventing you from getting pregnant. Oh, and ask questions. Lots of them! This episode is all about how to care for yourself, and includes loving tips on how family and friends can support someone in fertility treatment, too. Self-care is anything but selfish. It can come in the form of setting healthy boundaries in relationships, having clear communication or simply giving ourselves a break. As a fertility patient when we prioritize these things it helps us bring forward our best selves for every situation and makes the journey more supportive.
