I'm delighted to have Dr. Ramy Ghayda join me today to talk about sperm, and the importance of sperm DNA Fragmentation testing and how to improve sperm health. When trying to conceive it takes both an egg and sperm cell. And, as you'll hear Dr. Ghayda explain, we now have access to more tests for male factor infertility, and they are more affordable and accessible than ever. He and I both believe it's very important for people, and fertility patients (everyone, really!) to know their options and to be educated about what they can do to improve sperm quality, to test sperm quality. This can help make the whole journey the best it can be, and be one that hopefully leads to good outcomes. Dr. Ghayda is a reproductive urologist. Today, I'm excited to be joined by two members of the CryoFuture team: CEO and senior embryologist Sean Pae and Chief Operating Officer, Ginger Huang. I'm so excited to have Dr. Bruce Lessey of ReceptivaDX join me on the podcast. Dr. Lessey has dedicated his research life to studying the lining of the uterus and more specifically, how to help embryos stick better. His research led to the discovery of the role of BCL-6 in the lining of the uterus as a diagnostic test patients can have done by their doctors to guide them toward the best protocol for transfer success. The test isn't for women just going through IVF either. This test can also be done to help women get an endometriosis diagnosis without going through a laparoscopy surgery. ⁠ ⠀ ⠀⁠ In addition to being a Fertility Doctor at The Fertility Center of the Carolinas, in Greenville SC, Dr. Lessey is also the scientific advisor for Cicero DX. Your Genetics are a key part of my TUSHY Method (Y = Your genetics) and I'm so honored to have Dena Goldberg (also known far and wide as Dena DNA) joining me today! Some of the questions I know you have on your mind about genetics are: Nothing came back on my 23 & Me test. I'm good to go, right? Answer: Not so fast. 23&Me relies on "SNP testing," and only looks at "very specific bookmarks on very random genes." You'll want a more thorough test for preconception screening. I don't have any history of disease in my family. Do I need to do genetic testing? Answer: It's a good idea. There are syndromes such as Lynch Syndrome that are asymptomatic in 90% of people who are carriers. You'll want to know if you have those genetic markers before passing them on to your embryo and child. Can you make sure my embryo doesn't have autism? Answer: Autism is actually a description of a constellation of symptoms. So it's not an underlying condition in and of itself. There are hundreds to thousands of genetic causes to autism. We can catch some of these cases, but not all. Autism is multifactorial, meaning that many of these cases are probably caused by a combination of genetics and environment or in other words, nature and nurture together.
