Whitney Bischoff Angel is joining me to talk all about Egg Freezing. Whitney is a fertility nurse and patient advocate at Ova: Egg Freezing Specialty Center specializing in fertility ppreservation for women.  Whitney made the personal decision to freeze her own eggs in 2013, which she credits for making her an even stronger fertility nurse. In 2015, Whitney joined ABC’s The Bachelor, and since then she has used her platform to promote egg freezing, educating women around the world to be proactive versus reactive when it comes to their reproductive health. I started throwing Egg Freezing parties as a fun way for people to learn about fertility. There is humor. There is honest talk. Mostly, I throw them because I want every person to be empowered with knowledge about their fertility. It’s really as simple as that. Egg Freezing parties are safe and surgery-free gatherings of women (and sometimes men) to learn more about the process of freezing your eggs (or sperm). Beyond that, we talk in general about fertility and how every woman (and man) can take a proactive role in preserving theirs. I started Egg Freezing parties for a simple reason. Older women were in my office struggling with fertility only to wish they had known more when they were younger. Had someone told them to get their fertility levels checked and to consider the option of preserving their eggs they most certainly would have. I don’t want to hear years from now that women wished they’d known more about their fertility. This is what drives me to throw parties to make sure everyone knows they have options! Egg freezing is IVF without the F. You go through a standard cycle of In Vitro Fertilization in which you take hormone shots that stimulate the growth of eggs. A doctor like me then extracts your eggs through a simple surgical procedure, and I work with an embryologist to preserve your eggs in liquid nitrogen until you’re ready to use them. So the big question is what happens now that you’re ready to use your eggs? In other words, what are the steps towards fertilization (or as I like to say, what the F?) Step 1. Locate Your Eggs Step 2: Decide if you want to unfreeze all your eggs. Step 3. Struggling with fertility is not easy. It’s important to stay positive. For example, I like to think of you being IN-fertile. As in you’re “in” the club vs. infertile meaning you’re “not” fertile. Call me crazy, but I truly believe in the fertility of everyone who walks through my door. Nobody is a number or FSH or AMH level. What do those things even mean? That’s what I want to talk to you today. 💙Do your best best to find a positive mental attitude.💙Be proactive about your preconception tests. As we embark on a new year, I'm excited to delve into the basics of fertility care with all of you. Whether you're just curious, have set a resolution to prioritize your reproductive health this year, or you've been on this journey for a while, I think it's always great to go back to the basics that I share with my own patients. This week, I'm thrilled to (re)introduce The TUSHY Method - 5 essential tests to have done when you're seeking a diagnosis. What does TUSHY stand for?⁠ T is for Tubes–as in your fallopian tubes. First, you need to determine whether the fallopian tubes are open.⁠ U is for Uterus. I recommend doing an ultrasound of your uterus to figure out if there are any anatomic issues affecting your ability to get pregnant.⁠ S is for Sperm, because every pregnancy is a two-part gig! Learning about your partner’s or donor’s sperm health is essential.⁠ H is for Hormones. I recommend testing for three different critical hormone levels to understand your fertility in a more personal way.⁠ Y is for Your genetic profile.
