What is PGT?

Being a fertility patient is like learning a new language. It’s almost like you have to adopt a new vocabulary of only three-letter words. In today's Egg Whisperer Show podcast, I'm sharing about PGT. PGT = Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing When I talk about this to patients, one of the first reactions I get is that they think it’s associated with a 100% pregnancy rate and a perfect healthy baby. The other myth I hear is that most think they don’t need it because they don’t have anyone in their family with chromosome issues. Both of these statements are myths. PGT is the closest thing to a crystal ball we have right now but it’s still murky. It’s the best that science has to offer to give us the highest chance for a healthy pregnancy but it has limitations: it only screens chromosomes, not genetic diseases, birth defects, or genes for autism. Fighting for Fertility with Filmmaker Larkin McPhee

I am delighted to have Larkin McPhee joining me today on The Egg Whisperer Show. She is going to bring attention to something that is near and dear to my heart, and that is her new  NOVA special, Fighting for Fertility. I have had the pleasure of working with Larkin on Fighting for Fertility, which is about fertility and assisted reproductive technology and its contribution to the remarkable diversity of the modern family. It comes out on PBS tomorrow, Wednesday, May 12th. Larkin is a Peabody and Emmy Award winning director, producer, and writer of documentary films. Her films have covered topics ranging from personal finance with Suze Orman to nuclear power to the illness of depression. Meticulous research, outstanding characters, and powerful storytelling make her films extraordinarily compelling. Her skills as a director, writer, and documentarian bring beauty and clarity to any topic. Her documentaries impart a deep knowledge of the subject matter and provide viewers with a blueprint for positive change. Larkin is well known for her intimate sensitive portrayals of people in critically acclaimed films such as Depression: Out of the Shadows, a primetime PBS special on the illness of depression, Dying to Be Thin, a NOVA special on eating disorders, and Children By Design, one hour of an eight-hour PBS series called Secret of Life on the marvels and perils of the genetic revolution. What should I do to make sure I have a successful Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) with severe endometriosis? (Ask the Egg Whisperer)

In this episode, Mary writes in to Ask The Egg Whisperer, and says this, "I am 41, Stage 4 endometriosis. My las excision surgery was at the end of 2020, and the doctor also removed one ovary and both tubes. I still have one ovary and uterus. I have 4 frozen embryos. Grades: 4BB, two 4CC, 3CC (all are Day 6). I'm doing my first Frozen Embryo Transfer. I ovulated thru Lupron and the birth control pill, so we are starting the cycle over. How many embryos would you suggest I ask dr to implant at once? What supplements, foods or tips do you recommend for successful FET with history of severe endometriosis? Thank you!" I have secondary infertility and endometriosis. What should I do to conceive? (Ask the Egg Whisperer)

Felicia shares her journey with us in this Ask The Egg Whisperer question. Here's what she has to say, "I have secondary infertility. My son is 15. My husband has no sperm issues as I am on all the supplements you suggest. I had 2 rounds of IVF last year with no pregnancies. All of my hormones were great and my structures are great. Once with Lupron and once with Cetritide. The RE’s were baffled. They diagnosed me me with poor egg quality and a blocked tube.  I was not ready to give up. I went to my very open OB-GYN and I did my own research after asking you about possible endometriosis. He agreed it may be the problem even though I don’t have any issues. I had the laparoscopy and there was endometriosis in 6 areas! And tube is not blocked. I am sad I had it but glad I listened to you when you said a lot of times it could be the hidden culprit.  Not saying it’s a guarantee that solves it, but it’s a step forward. I’m tearing up as I write. Thank you so much!  My question is do you have any further suggestions for the coming months of trying to conceive?" Tune in to hear my full answer, and the answer to 9 other questions. Environmental Toxicant Exposure and Your Reproductive Health with Dr. Kevin Osteen

I’m so excited that Dr. Kevin Osteen is joining me this week for the Egg Whisperer Show. He is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Meharry Medical College.   Since the 1990s, Dr. Osteen’s research program has focused on environmental endocrine disruptors and how they impact endometriosis. His laboratory developed “organ-on-a-chip” technology, which is a tiny plastic “chip” about the size of a USB thumb drive that mimics the workings of the microenvironment of a human organ. Dr. Osteen’s team created the first endometrium and endometriosis chip models. These “organ-on-a-chip” models provide a way to test and observe what happens in “normal” endometrium, and in those that have endometriosis. This technology changes the way doctors study this disease.   Dr. Osteen and I will be talking about the organ-on-a-chip technology, endometriosis, and endocrine disruptors, and reproductive health. I’m excited to have him on the show, and hope you’ll join us for this exciting and very timely conversation. Count Down: Why Sperm Counts and Male Fertility Rates are Dropping with guest Dr. Shanna Swan

Did you know that fertility rates have dropped 50% in the last 5 decades, and more and more people are requiring help to grow their family? Some are calling it "Spermageddon." I'm not one to run with fantastical headlines, but the truth is that we are facing an infertility epidemic. And, this is all heartbreaking for the people dealing with infertility, and for us as a society.   Today, I'm honored to be joined by Dr. Shanna Swan on The Egg Whisperer Show to talk about this upsetting truth. Dr. Swan is one of the world’s leading environmental and reproductive epidemiologists and a Professor of environmental medicine and public health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. An award-winning scientist, her work examines the impact of environmental exposures including chemicals such as phthalates and Bisphenol A, on men’s and women’s reproductive health and the neurodevelopment of children. She just recently published her book, “Countdown: How Our Modern World Is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male and Female Reproductive Development, and Imperiling the Future of the Human Race.”   We will be talking about the data and information that Dr. Swan has gathered, the environmental factors that are playing a role, and what we can do to reverse some of the impact. I hope you'll tune in and share this information far and wide. CountMeIn on changing this epidemic - and thank you for writing your eye-opening new book, Dr. Swan.   Read the full show notes on Dr. Aimee's website   Subscribe to my YouTube channel for more fertility tips!   Join Egg Whisperer School   Checkout the podcast   Subscribe to the newsletter to get updates   Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh is one of America’s most well known fertility doctors. Getting the Most Out of Your First Visit with a Fertility Doctor

Regardless of who you see for fertility care, you deserve the best—personalized treatment. I realize that not everyone can come to see me, and I won’t be around forever. This information is a valuable resource as you begin your fertility journey, whoever it is with and whenever it takes place. The inspiration behind this topic? Well—it started with some snooping. Several times each day, I hear my receptionist answer the phone and new patients on the other end asking what they can expect at a new patient consult. The mystery is about to be revealed! Let’s go through what the first visit to a fertility doctor entails and how you can get the most out of it. This is Fertility Mythbusting

I do this with my patients all the time. There’s a lot of truth-telling that goes on in my office, and often myth-busting is necessary to get to the truth. Perhaps you can relate — there are so many headlines and hearsay stories about fertility. Do you struggle to disseminate between what is evidence-based and what is not? I don’t care where you live or who your doctor is. My goal is to share what I know in the event that it’s even the tiniest bit helpful to you and your fertility journey. Swimming Aimlessly: Men and Infertility with guest John Waldman

Today on The Egg Whisperer Show podcast I’m excited to have Jon Waldman as my guest. He is a Winnipeg-based writer talking to us about his recent book, Swimming Aimlessly: One Man's Journey through Infertility and What We Can All Learn from It. In 2009, Jon and his wife embarked on a six-year journey through infertility, which concluded in 2015 with the birth of their daughter. Jon is joining me to talk about his journey, and how infertility impacts men. I’m deeply grateful that he is sharing his story with the world, because we don’t always hear about the impact that infertility has on men from an emotional and psychological standpoint. Infertility is so difficult for everyone involved, and Jon shares his story with authenticity, humor, and love.
