128 5 Steps to Copy that Moves Your People to Sign Up
Have you ever spent hours writing an email invite, sign up page, or salespage and then released your baby into the world… and gotten crickets? It can feel so FRUSTRATING and discouraging. About a month ago, a copywriting client hired me to write the invite emails and social posts speakers would be sending out to invite their people to her summit. As I was crafting them, I noticed there are certain things I do to move people to action. It’s about: Them feeling seen. What I’m saying feeling relevant to them. Them resonating with what I’m saying. Them feeling like what I’m talking about is important and urgent. …And so they sign up or click to the next step. I’ve been talking a lot to you about the inner aspects that hold us back from using our voices and sharing our messages. (More on that Friday.) But I wanted to start sharing straight up message clarity guidance again too because… Being a messenger is one part owning who you are + ALSO one part standing in a clear message. In episode 128 of Unforgettable, I break down: The top reasons your copy may not be landing for your people The vital difference between copy and messaging (this will change your whole perspective on marketing) What you can do to write copy that moves your people to sign up for your thing Listen in. 127 Harness Your Too-Muchness to Rock Your Business with Shereen Sun
Have you ever been told you were too much? Ever felt like you had to tone yourself down to be taken seriously or to be successful? Too intense, too talkative, too loud, too sensitive, too many questions... Before her business took off, my dear friend and podcast guest Shereen Sun - a business coach who has been an educator and creativity expert for 10+ years - was helping clients be their full selves. But she was at the same time holding back an important part of her own self from her family - which meant she couldn’t talk about it publicly. She wanted to feel fully self-expressed and be a leader who talks openly about what matters most. So she came out as queer to her Muslim father after 10 years of hiding it. This set off a chain reaction of feeling empowered to share her other truths, and she began to harness her too muchness to grow her business. She climbed to six figures in a year. In today’s episode Shereen and I talk about how we were both told we were too much. She was “that girl” in class who raised her hand and answered (and asked) all the questions, and I’m a highly sensitive person who feels deeply and has often been called “intense”. We also talk about how easy it is to internalize this into shame that leads to shrinking or hiding parts of ourselves. Especially when we’re the face of our business. >>> And why when you OWN your too-muchness and use it as your strength instead, you can grow a thriving business without putting yourself in a box. Listen in and you’ll learn: Why it’s so hard to clarify your message when you’re a spiritual creative How getting clear on that message is as much about the energy behind it as it is about the words What it means to be creatively expressed AND successful (e.g. making big money) in business Why we need more biz role models with super-successful weird, different, or woo businesses Her best advice to build your business from your full creative magic Deeper support from me: FREE gift: Get your Message Clarity Kit here, so you can uncover your true message and clarify what you want to be known for. “Clear Message, Clear Copy” is my message clarity + copy package for coaches wanting to land on a clear, cohesive way to express the story of their work and their place in it. 126 Body Image for Personal Brands (How to Love the Skin You’re in)
Four years ago, I stood in front of the mirror looking at a body that seemed soft… or at least softer than it had been at the height of my calorie-counting and exercise obsession. I had just gotten the email that said I was selected to perform at TEDxWomen. And I confess that I worried about what I would look like on camera. I was in the process of letting go of body perfectionism, embracing Intuitive Eating and the Health At Every Size (HAES) movement and letting my body find it’s natural weight set point. As a coach, I was helping others do the same. But I was still human… and still a woman raised in western culture where we grow up seeing worthiness as attached to our looks. As the “new media”, you and I are the faces of our businesses in Instagram feeds and internet browser windows RIGHT NEXT to perfect celebrities who fit in one narrow definition of beauty. It’s hard to not compare yourself. It’s oh so common to think you need to wait to do video or get on stage or do a photoshoot until you’ve cleared your acne, gone on that diet, or toned your arms. When we hate on our bodies, it’s hard to love our voices. It’s systemic. It creates resistance to being visible and consequently silencing your voice. The solution: Be comfortable in your skin without first changing the way that skin looks. So how did I still get on stage and confidently share my message? That’s what episode 126 of Unforgettable explores. Listen in. Listen in and you’ll learn: Why respecting your body and loving it are two different things My journey with body perfectionism (including parts I felt embarrassed to share) Why your body image is tied to the images you surround yourself with What accounts to follow and unfollow to reprogram your beauty brain Deeper support from me: FREE gift: Get your Message Clarity Kit here, so you can uncover your true message and clarify what you want to be known for. “Clear Message, Clear Copy” is my done-for-you message clarity + copywriting package for coaches wanting to land on a clear, cohesive way to express the story of their work and their place in it. 125 Navigating Vulnerability Hangovers
Ever pushed publish on something personal, controversial, or that offers your service... then felt queasy in your stomach, wished you could take it back, and had it consume your thoughts for the rest of the morning? Even though your logical brain tries to tell you it’s no big deal, that doesn’t stop the flood of thoughts. >>> I’m too much. Nobody cares. Everyone thinks I’m silly. (Or at least those are the thoughts I have.) That, my dear ones, is a vulnerability hangover. It triggers this inner evolutionary part of yourself that feels like this small act could get you kicked out of the safety of the tribe, out into the desert to wander until you die of thirst. We worry vulnerability hangovers are a sign we’ve done something wrong. But the problem with that thinking is that then the next time when you’re ready to post something, you remember that feeling and think twice. Maybe it’s not worth sharing. Maybe I should just share an inspirational quote everyone will like. In episode 125, I address the most common vulnerability hangovers I see in myself and in the women in my masterminds, what you can do to move through them, and why they might actually be something to aim for. 124 Your Future Clients Want ALL Of You
Think of Gabrielle Bernstein. Denise Duffield-Thomas. Danielle Laporte. Each of them create that know, like & trust factor because they seem so like THEMSELVES. Gabby’s transparency. Denise’s chill, practical attitude. Danielle’s bold statements. But what often happens is people create a message or business they feel boxed in by. They feel like there are things they’re supposed to say for good marketing or they need to choose this population to work with or that strategy because it makes sense on paper. What if you could call in your people by saying things that truly matter, being more of yourself, and addressing their struggles in a way that feels resonant to you? …Would you show up more consistently on social media and with your audience? Would you feel more confident in what you were saying? In this episode, I share five seemingly counter intuitive ways to integrate and express all of who you are fully so that your future clients can see YOU. Because everyone’s saying the same thing. It’s being more of you that will call in your people. And your next level of impact. Listen in. 123 Feeling Shy or Introverted With a Message to Share
You’re dedicated to your work in the world. You’ve been at this for awhile, had some traction, and your clients rave about you. Still... you read the posts of others on social media and feel moved… You know there’s something bigger you’re here to do and say. Yet in conversations and in the noise online you sometimes have a hard time finding your turn to speak up and feel shy about sharing. The voices in your head say no one will care. And when you do gather your courage, you spend 30 minutes crafting a post then hover with your finger over the publish button for another 30 minutes (and what feels like three times the mental energy needed). Then after you share, your stomach is in knots, second-guessing what you said, feeling exposed, unpopular, irrelevant, or like you took up too much space. That internal swirl keeps you from really owning it, from being able to clearly articulate your work and your gifts. Or from being willing to share them publicly. I recorded today’s episode for you if you’re feeling shy or introverted yet know you have a message to share. Listen in. Deeper support from me: The summer round of the Courageous Messenger Mastermind is enrolling! 122 You’ve Evolved - Your Messaging Needs to Evolve Too
If you’re anything like me, you evolve often. Business is, after all, one of THE best self-development tools. :~) ...We evolve when we learn more about who we like working with and what nuances of our work light us up or drain us. ...We evolve when we peel back another layer in knowing ourselves through relationship, self-introspection, coaching, or life events. ...We evolve when what we’ve been saying & doing starts feeling comfortable and we lean into an edge that stretches us to take the next step of our mission. Regardless, when we evolve, our messaging needs to keep pace with us so it can take us where we’re going next. But maybe you’re stuck around putting your voice out in the world in a bigger way. It can feel messy… almost painful… and steal your energy for momentum. It’s time to evolve your messaging to the next level in your business and mission. Listen in. [ LIBSYN 50 x 550 ] Deeper support from me: The Courageous Messenger Mastermind opened enrollment today! It’s been on my soul for the past year. 121 Having Compassion for Your Voice & My Relationship With Mine
Growing up, I was the quiet girl who had trouble making friends and had her nose in a book during breaks between classes. Yet at home where I was comfortable, I was talking up a storm and putting on song and dance shows for my parents. That’s been my relationship with my voice. Sometimes I’m “high vibe”, sometimes I feel like if I speak up I’ll be “too much”, and sometimes I have a hard time saying anything and I just want to be invisible. I’ve been practicing having compassion for my voice, no matter what she sounds like. Because she’s beautiful and perfect just the way she is. So I recorded this episode for you in hopes that if you relate to parts of my own relationship with my voice, you feel that sense of normalizing, that your experience isn’t wrong, or different, or other. 120 Doing less in a “do more” biz culture with Tara Newman
I LOVE that Tara Newman she stands for doing less in a culture that rewards doing for doing sake. In her words, to do that you have to be pretty damn bold. In fact, she believes that leading yourself in a way that is unapologetic and bold solves most problems. Through her podcast, The Bold Leadership Revolution as well as her association, The BRAVE Society, Tara Newman is the Leader of Leaders. She uses decades of entrepreneurial experience and a Master’s in Organizational Psychology to teach leaders to run businesses without sacrificing their health, relationships, or integrity by establishing behaviors, habits, and rituals aligned with their vision of success. And if you know about my past life helping women biz owners “feed their hustle”, you know why I had to share this *essential* conversation with you. Listen in. Listen in and you’ll learn: The way she uses her podcast as the front line for her message, a space to decondition from our pushing biz culture How to “recover on the run” and think of business as an endurance sport you’ll be playing for the next twenty years Why the addiction to the rush of doing and “to-do lists” is really a thing and the tremendous cost of burning out How to tap into your “critical few” things to do in your business to generate revenue doing less Why connection drives her revenue and how she gets strategic about it Deeper support from me: “Clear Message, Clear Copy” is my done-for-you message clarity + about page + bio package for coaches wanting to land on a clear, cohesive way to express the story of their work and their place in it. 119 Unconsciously Performing vs Being Real - the Subtle Difference
I used to think I needed to pump myself up before going on video or on stage. Or sculpt what I wanted to say before raising my hand and speaking up so that it was insightful and interesting enough. I would unconsciously put on a “performance” with the energy or words I thought people would respond to from me. Over the last few years, with the help of many coaches and mentors, I’ve learned that I can just BE, and I don’t need to do or say anything special. I will still be loved, people will still be inspired, clients will still want to work with me. And the result is I’m more relaxed, less drained, and people feel like they’re really seeing ME. Well, I had a major breakthrough two weeks before I ran my recent Niche Clarity Challenge that peeled back another layer of this (there’s always more) and shifted EVERYTHING: My promotion. How I led the challenge. The subsequent enrollment of this round of Get Clear, Get Clients. After an intense weekend of support from my mentor Jesse Koren, I emerged no longer willing to perform, try, or push. In Unforgettable #119, I’m taking you deep behind the scenes (and inside my head) of that launch plus sharing how to identify where you may be unconsciously performing ~ which could majorly affect how you show up in your business and messaging. Listen in. Listen in and you’ll learn: The nuanced difference between performing and showing up real Why performing is SO draining (and how to know if you’re doing it) How to focus on connecting with your people without unconsciously manipulating (the magic space in the middle) What it looks like to not try or push and still get the same results (aka clients) Deeper support from me: I privately coach & message for select clients to realign, define, & refine your messaging to reach your next level of impact.
