About our drink:
Elijah Craig Barrel Strength
A liquor store in Broken Arrow bought a full barrel of Elijah Craig and we were able to pick up a bottle of it. Although it was very strong, 67+% ABV, it had a delicious flavor.
About our gear:
A photo album.
Remember looking at all the photo albums at your grandparent's house? Remember the joy it brought you and your family? Although we take 100's if not 1,000's of pictures today, we rarely have hard copies of them.
About the Topic:
What is realism? What is actually real vs. possibly real and what exists from itself vs. what exists from another. We talk about this and more with Dr. Aaron Henderson from The Alcuin Institute for Catholic Culture.
About the Guest:
Dr. Aaron Henderson studied theology at Benedictine College, University of Dallas, and Ave Maria University. He is currently a faculty tutor at The Alcuin Institute for Catholic Culture. He enjoys a pint of delicious beer, a good time with friends, and an inviting theology book.

Exodus90 has started but Exodus Lent is just around the corner!
March 2nd is Ash Wednesday, and over a billion people will start living different in some way. Maybe giving up chocolate or alcohol, or whatever.
For a lot of Catholics, Lent is a time of finding the easiest way to "give something up". But, at the end of those 40 days, did that sacrifice really make a difference?
This year, there's a new opportunity out there specifically for men that will actually help you grow closer to God and become a better man.
You've heard me talk about Exodus 90 — but let me tell you about Exodus Lent: a 40-day journey that will challenge you to dig a little deeper this year.
If your first reaction is: "I'm absolutely not taking cold showers" well you're in luck: men who take on the Exodus Lent get to take warm showers, drink alcohol, and — when you’re with others — watch TV and sports. But don’t be fooled, this will still be a challenging 40 days of preparation for living the Christian life, for the rest of your life.
Here's how it works:
First — Over the 40 days of Lent, men commit to daily prayer, setting aside a minimum of 20 minutes to spend with the Lord. Each day includes a scripture reading and reflection written to help men better understand, grow in, and live virtue.
Second — More than just giving up chocolate, men take up a range of disciplines and sacrifices for the season of Lent. Sweets, snacks, social media, are all gone.
Third — Men commit to a fraternity of 5-7 men. Each week, the fraternity meets to pray together, check in, hold each other accountable and encourage one another.
On Easter Sunday, you'll walk away with a new and lasting understanding of what it means to live the full Christian life. Chocolate bunnies and all.

About the Topic:
“And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father whose in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:16-18
Jesus says “when you fast” not “if you fast”. He expected us to fast. But we should not fast out of dieting or pride, but out of love of God.
Fasting improves us spiritually in several ways (from Jimmy Akin):
We express our recognition that spiritual things are more important than physical things.
We learn to deny ourselves pleasures, even in spite of pain. (Increase in fortitude)
We declare that we recognize the need to reform and to get closer to God.
We willingly embrace the hunger fasting produces as a sign of being willing to shoulder the burdens of others (Col. 1:24 - “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is Lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the Church…”). What is lacking: Christ’s sufferings were, of course, sufficient for our redemption, but all of us may add ours to his, in order that the fruits of his redemption be applied to the souls of men.
We express humility before God by adopting a humble posture, recognizing our dependence on him and affirming our submissiveness to his will.
4 classes of penitents who committed major sins (idolatry, murder, abortion, adultery) in the ancient formal penitential discipline:
Weepers - Not allowed in the church but stayed outside and asked those going in to pray for them.
Hearers - Stood inside the church doors and heard the liturgy of the word but were dismissed before the liturgy of the Eucharist.
Kneelers - knelt or lay down in church and participated with the Church in specific prayers for them before being blessed by the bishop and dismissed prior to the Eucharist.
Standers - sat in the congregation and stayed for the liturgy of the Eucharist but did not receive Communion.
5 Tips when Fasting:
Have a specific intention for your suffering. Visualize the person you are praying for or the grace you are asking God to give you.
Set a schedule. Scheduling how your day will look helps avoid moments of inactivity. Helps to go to sleep on time and get up early.
Increase the amount of water you drink per day.
Take multi-vitamins. When you fast you will become deficient in some vitamins your body is used to having.
Don’t complain. No one should know you are fasting.
Canon Law on Feast Days:
Can. 1246 §1. Sunday, on which by apostolic tradition the paschal mystery is celebrated, must be observed in the universal Church as the primordial holy day of obligation. The following days must also be observed: the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Epiphany, the Ascension, the Body and Blood of Christ, Holy Mary the Mother of God, her Immaculate Conception, her Assumption, Saint Joseph, Saint Peter and Saint Paul the Apostles, and All Saints.
Canon Law on Days of Penance:
Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Can. 1252 The law of abstinence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year. The law of fasting binds those who have attained their majority, until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Pastors of souls and parents are to ensure that even those who by reason of their age are not bound by the law of fasting and abstinence, are taught the true meaning of penance.
Can. 1253 The conference of bishops can determine more precisely the observance of fast and abstinence as well as substitute other forms of penance, especially works of charity and exercises of piety, in whole or in part, for abstinence and fast.

Exodus90 starts JANUARY 17!
Hey men,
Let me ask you: in the past 90 days, how often did you eat a little too much, drink a little too much, or spend too much time in the office?
How many times did you ignore your wife, children, or friends just to thumb through social media, watch Netflix, YouTube, or a game?
So many men today are distracted. They’re dependent on the comforts of this world, making them incapable of even knowing they aren’t free to say no to those things. Guys, we were made for more than this.
If you desire freedom from those attachments — Freedom to be a better husband, a better father, and a better man for others — I invite you to check out Exodus 90
Exodus 90 is a ninety-day program that gets us back to the fundamentals of the faith: prayer, self-denial, and fraternity. It starts on January 17th and ends on Easter Sunday.More than 50,000 men from around the world — Catholics, Christians, even folks that don’t align with any Christian faith — have done this. Of these men, 99% report experiencing greater freedom.

About the Topic:
It's important for men to gather in a small men's group. But how do we get men to the parish? What's the most important thing once we get them there? We talk about this with our guest, Fr. Brian O'Brien.
Men's groups should focus on:
Events led by men
Jesus Christ as the focus
Emphasis on reconciliation and the Eucharist
Catechesis with a male perspective
A commitment of the Bishop and priests
Build off of existing men's groups
Hold diocese-wide events on a regular basis
Hold frequent parish-focused men's events
Incorporating "dad-kid" events

About our drink:
27 year Double Double Dewars
Our unique Four Stage Aging Process for Ultimate Smoothness finished in Palo Cortado Sherry Casks.
Dewar’s Double Double 27-Year-Old is finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks, this blend delivers heady, aromatic, floral notes with honeyed fruits and subtle spice and the characteristic silky smooth finish.
Innovation comes in many forms, and in 2019 our Master Blender, Stephanie Macleod, released a new range of Blended Scotch Whiskies with a Four Stage Ageing Process for Ultimate Smoothness. This may sound like an indulgence but the series has been picking up gold medal awards the world over since being released.
We believe that in order to do things right and get the best results you should put in double the effort; everything else is just a job half done. So we asked ourselves how we could put in double the effort to our range that was already Double Aged for Extra Smoothness…and it was obvious..double it!
Our Double Double Series has been aged, blended together, aged again, then finished in sherry casks for the Ultimate Smoothness.
About our gear:
The Thomist Subscription
The Thomist appeals to a wide international readership in the university, the seminary, and the Church. In the tradition and spirit of Thomas Aquinas, it seeks to promote original and penetrating inquiry into the full range of contemporary philosophical and theological questions. It undertakes particularly to support sustained discussion of issues of philosophy and systematic theology, where such discussion can be advanced by creative use of the thought of Aquinas and significant authors in the Thomistic tradition. In this way The Thomist seeks to cultivate a fruitful dialogue between modern and contemporary philosophical systems and the classical tradition of philosophy and Christian theology.
About the Topic:
Acquired: Virtue that we cultivate by our own efforts. Acquired virtues can be strengthened progressively over time. Aquinas holds that acquired virtue can be a life of continuous growth and progress.
Infused: Given by God alone. Habitual grace is the accidental form that modifies the essence of the soul so as to give the human person a participation in the divine nature. Infused virtues can also grow over time.
Stages of growth:
Beginner – avoiding sin and preserving the gift of charity.
Proficient – Strengthen charity by steadily advancing in greater works
Perfect – Whose exercise of charity is directed at uion with and enjoyment of God
The strengthening of a habit enables one to perform greater acts in accordance with that virtue the 1. Promptness 2. Pleasure 3. Ease.
Acquired virtues are both generated and increased by gradual strengthening of reason’s imprint on the appetitive powers through human acts, but “our acts are not the active causes of the increase of charity and the other infused virtues,” just as our actions are not the active causes of infused virtues’ coming to be in the first place. The increase of the infused virtues is due to God’s action, just as their initial infusion is God’s gift.

About our drink:
2021 Niles Krupnik.
The skillful combining of a century-old tradition with modern production methods has produced an excellent liqueur, best drunk warm in the winter or on the rocks during the summer. Krupnik (pronounced KROOP-neek), is made of natural wild bee's honey gathered in forests, and exotic spices. It has an outstanding honey-sweet taste and spicy bouquet with a strong, warming effect

Hierarchy of gratitude:
God
Our Parents
The person that excels in dignity, from whom general favors proceed
A benefactor from whom we have received particular and private favors
Summa - the natural order requires that he who has received a favor should, by repaying the favor, turn to his benefactor according to the mode of each.[1]
The grateful person sees reality as it is. Everything as gift.
Francis De Sales – Intro to the Devout Life: Of poverty of spirit in the midst of riches.
“There is a difference between having poison and being poisoned”
Steps to growing in gratitude – Catholic Digest
Prayer, prayer, prayer
Surround yourself with people who are grateful for life
Attitudes are contagious
Materialism fuels our ingratitude
Before we make purchases (planned or otherwise) say a prayer
Instead of rewarding children with things, reward them with experiences
Will this gift end up in the trash in a week?
Refusing to forgive is a major obstacle to gratitude
Failure to forgive places burdens on our soul
Worry and Anxiety also lead us away from gratitude
“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-7
There is a direct link between screen time and anxiety
Practice custody of our language
Just like custody of the eyes. Grumbling or venting does not help, it is a consummation with our interior feelings. Stop complaining, be happier
Regular confession
Meditate on our Lord’s mercy
Memento Mori
Having Heaven as our context helps us be grateful for everything, especially our trials

About our drink:
Kentucky Owl - Wiseman Bourbon
The new bourbon is described as a blend of Kentucky Owl 4-year-old wheat and high-rye bourbons, along with 5 ½-year and 8 ½-year-old Kentucky-sourced bourbons.
“The Wiseman Bourbon is an artful balance of soft wheat and spicy high-rye that provides a smooth but complex bourbon designed to drink neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail,” said John Rhea, Kentucky Owl master blender, in a prepared statement. “The product leads with a beautiful caramel flavor and aroma followed by notes of allspice, citrus fruit and a nudge of oak.”
