The Next Best Picture Podcast

"All Of Us Strangers" had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, where it received universally positive reviews for its beautifully intimate story of a middle-aged gay man reconciling with the past trauma of losing his parents at a young age, all trying to form a new connection with his neighbor in a mostly empty high-rise apartment building. The Next Best Picture team conducted a series of interviews from the time of its world premiere, through its screening at the New York Film Festival, all the way up until its theatrical release with several people involved in making the film. First, we have Dan Bayer's interview with director and writer Andrew Haigh, followed by my interview with the film's composer, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch. We then hear Ema Sasic's interview with actress Claire Foy and Bayer's interview with star Andrew Scott. Then we return to me again for my interview with cinematographer Jamie D. Ramsay, and we end everything with Sasic speaking with actor Jamie Bell. Each one has something unique to say, and all of them were kind enough to lend us their time to talk about this special film, which you can listen to below. "The Iron Claw" tells the unbelievable true story of the Von Erich wrestling family, from their soaring heights in the territory days of wrestling in Dallas, Texas, during the 1980s to their crushing lows, which resulted in unimaginable tragedy for the whole family. Director/Writer Sean Durkin felt a tremendous responsibility in bringing this well-known wrestling story to the big screen, and his cast, which includes Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson, and Stanley Simons, was more than up to the task to make sure they got the art of professional wrestling right as well as the personal and deeply felt story of a family torn apart by tragedy. "The Boys In The Boat" is a biographical sports drama directed by George Clooney, based on the 2013 book of the same name by Daniel James Brown. It tells the story of the University of Washington's rowing crew representing the United States in the men's eight at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games in Berlin against the Nazis. "Freud's Last Session" had its world premiere at the AFI Film Festival, where it received solid reviews for its two central performances. It features Anthony Hopkins, playing Sigmund Freud, who is near death and has one last session with C.S. Lewis, played by Matthew Goode. The two deliver intellectual, powerhouse work in this (mostly) chamber-piece drama. After wowing audiences with her feature directorial debut "The Edge Of Seventeen" in 2016, writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig turned her eye toward Judy Blume's influential coming-of-age book and adapted it into the critically beloved "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret."
