Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi were hot off of their Best Documentary Oscar win for "Free Solo" when the real-life story of "The Rescue" occurred. Using archival footage from the daring 2018 mission, new interviews, and thrilling reenactments using the actual cave divers involved in the rescue, Jimmy and Elizabeth have once again created one of the most intense and inspirational documentaries of the year. Interviews With "Titane" Director/Writer, Julia Ducournau & Star, Vincent Lindon
"Titane" has had a tremendous amount of buzz since its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it went on to win the coveted Palme d'Or. Since then, it has been mystifying, terrifying those who have dared to see it, and in some cases, causing audience members to faint during their screenings. Beneath all of the film's more visceral moments, there is a sweetness that emerges, and it is here where the film's storytelling becomes the most rewarding. Julia Ducournau's follow-up film to "Raw" is uncompromising, with a clear directorial vision that's one of the most unique and intense you're likely to see this year. She needed a gifted actor who could commit to her vision, and she knew that with Vincent Lindon, her work would be in good hands. Both Julia and Vincent were kind enough to spend some time talking with me about working together, what the film means to them, and more! Take a listen down below, be sure to check out the film before listening (this is a movie that demands you to avoid spoilers at any cost), and enjoy!Check out more on NextBestPicture.comPlease subscribe on...SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/nextbestpicturepodcastiTunes Podcasts - https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/negs-best-film-podcast/id1087678387?mt=2Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/7IMIzpYehTqeUa1d9EC4jTAnd be sure to help support us on Patreon for as little as $1 a month at https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Learn more about your ad choices. "Titane"
For our main podcast review this weekend, Eve O'Dea, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer & Tom O'Brien join me to discuss the 2021 Palme d'Or winner from the Cannes Film Festival, Julia Ducournau's fearless "Titane" starring Agathe Rousselle & Vincent Lindon. Following her directorial debut, "Raw," Julia continues to push boundaries and shock audiences with her gifted storytelling. Audacious, hilarious, and unexpectedly moving, her latest defies convention and is best seen with as little knowledge about it heading in as possible. Be warned, our review is filled with spoilers, so if you're thinking of taking a listen before seeing the film, don't! Go see it first, come back and enjoy!Check out more on NextBestPicture.comPlease subscribe on...SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/nextbestpicturepodcastiTunes Podcasts - https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/negs-best-film-podcast/id1087678387?mt=2Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/7IMIzpYehTqeUa1d9EC4jTAnd be sure to help support us on Patreon for as little as $1 a month at https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Learn more about your ad choices. Interview With "Old Henry" Director/Writer Potsy Ponciroli & Star, Tim Blake Nelson
"Old Henry" is a lean, harsh, and violent western which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and is now being released theatrically by Shout! Studios. The film marks writer/director Potsy Ponciroli's first time exploring the western genre and his first time writing a dramatic feature outside of the broad comedies he's usually worked on. Having been no stranger to independent movies or westerns, character actor Tim Blake Nelson ("The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs") is remarkable as the titular character in Ponciroli's film. Both were kind enough to take some time to talk with me about making the film, working with each other, and more! Click below to listen, and be sure to check out the film now playing in theaters. Interviews With Max Harwood, Richard E. Grant & Director Jonathan Butterell For "Everybody's Talking About Jamie"
The movie musical has had quite a year in 2021, but no other is as joyous and free-spirited as "Everybody's Talking About Jamie," currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Director Jonathan Butterell brought the show from the stage to the screen and cast a wide array of gifted actors to tell the story of Jamie New/Mimi Me, brought to wondrous life by Max Harwood. Both Jonathan and Max were kind enough to speak with us about making the film, but that's not all...returning to the podcast is Academy Award nominee Richard E. Grant who has a scene-stealing turn as Jamie's mentor Hugo Battersby/Loco Chanelle. Please take a listen down below to hear from all three of them, and be sure to check out the film. "The Guilty"
For our second podcast review this week, Dan Bayer, Sara Clements, Will Mavity & Zoe Rose Bryant joins me to discuss the American remake of the 2018 Danish film "The Guilty," also titled "The Guilty" starring Jake Gyllenhaal. With a script by "True Detective" writer Nic Pizzolatto and Jake re-teaming with "Southpaw" director Antoine Fuqua, the collaboration gives us a taut thriller, confined to a single location for the entire runtime. How did we feel it compared to the original? What did we think of Jake's performance? Tune in below to hear our thoughts, enjoy and be sure to check out the film streaming on Netflix this weekend.Check out more on NextBestPicture.comPlease subscribe on...SoundCloud - https://soundcloud.com/nextbestpicturepodcastiTunes Podcasts - https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/negs-best-film-podcast/id1087678387?mt=2Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/7IMIzpYehTqeUa1d9EC4jTAnd be sure to help support us on Patreon for as little as $1 a month at https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Learn more about your ad choices. Interview With "The Eyes Of Tammy Faye" Actress, Cherry Jones
Cherry Jones is one of the most distinguished actresses working today. A Tony and Emmy Award winner, she's graced the screen, stage, and our television sets with brilliant performances over her entire career. Her latest role is in "The Eyes Of Tammy Faye," where she plays Tammy's mother, Rachel. A religiously devoted woman, she has to deal with backlash within her community due to being divorced, making for a complex character to portray on screen and one with whom Cherry can relate in more ways than one. Cherry was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about her role, her thoughts on the real-life Tammy Faye and her husband Jim Bakker, working with Jessica Chastain, and more! Click below to listen, and be sure to check out the film now playing in theaters from Searchlight Pictures.
