The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held last week at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California, on September 12th. Unfortunately, I missed watching the show live because I was at the Toronto International Film Festival, but I wouldn't miss the chance to podcast about the show and its winners for the world. "Goodnight Mommy" is a remake of the 2014 Austrian horror film of the same name and stars Naomi Watts in the lead role. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. "See How They Run" is one of the more impressive directorial debuts from 2022. Director Tom George and screenwriter Mark Chappell are a match made in heaven as they take the "Whodunnit" genre and flip it on its head with a tribute to the work of Agatha Christie that is a deceptively modern, meta, and vastly entertaining murder mystery in its own right. "Speak No Evil" had its world premiere, digitally, at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, where it shocked and terrified audiences with its dark humor, which grows more sinister and more threatening until the cringe comedy is completely erased, and all that is left is stomach-churning horror. One of the stand-out films from the festival, it's been playing in limited release in New York and Los Angeles but will now be available to stream on Shudder starting September 16th. Director and writer Christian Tafdrup was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about the film (both without spoilers and with indicated spoilers for those who do not wish to know where this twisted film goes).
