R&R – How To Become A Watchmaker with Audemars Piguet

Subscribe to the show on Google, Apple, Spotify and all other podcast players. In what will go on to become the first of a new series, Alex @thewatchregulator interviews Rob @geneva_blue_ about how he started out in rural Australia and went on to become a watchmaker at Audemars Piguet in Switzerland. It's essential listening for anyone thinking about training to become a watchmaker. We start out with Rob's background and his early fascination with watches and how they worked. We discuss the jobs that he did before watchmaking that all left him wanting to do something he was actually passionate about. Then on to his travel to Switzerland where he would meet his future life and the chance noticing of a sign for a even course in watchmaking that would change his life forever. Rob's training with Audemars Piguet and how he made it work as the only Australian in the training. The skills he learned and the old ways of doing things that are still taught today. We talk about his movement from training at Audemars Piguest to working in their after sales service and then him leaving to go and work for Richard Mille. We also get into Rob's passion for both vintage watches and independent watchmaking, plus the friends he has made over the years. Then his return to life in Australia. It's a fascinating story and one of our most popular episodes. Subscribe to the show on Google, Apple, Spotify and all other podcast players. On this episode of The Defining Time Show, Anthony from @defining_time  is joined again by Alex @thewatchregulator. Alex is a watch technician for the Swatch Group. So he is well placed to be able to discuss the Flyback Chronograph by Moser. We get into the polarizing and unique design of the streamliner and what out initial thoughts about it were. Then we begin to break down how the watch is made both in terms of components and who is making and designing the unique movement. We talk about our favourite reviews from the website and get into a question created by one of the review titles. What kind of watch would James Bond 007 really wear. We all know that Omega is currently the watch on the wrist of Her Majestys number one spy but in the real world what watch do we think a real spy would wear. Would it be something expensive or something cheap and under the radar. Find out what our picks are and why. DTS - Does Rolex still have its place? Ft Dustin @normal.sinus.rhythm

This week on the Defining Time Show, Anthony (@defining_time) chats with watch community member and all round legend Dustin of @normal.sinus.rhythm. It is truly amazing when two people that have never met before, just click and have a wonderful conversation about things they love. They talk about non-negotiable aspects a watch needs to make it in the collection and why Rolex still has a strong hold in collections when the collector has moved on to Independents. Dustin learns what the Chrono24 notepad is and shares a beautiful story of how him and his father commemorated his mother's life. A natural discussion about watches and this conversation goes to show how important these objects can be and the connection a collector has with them.  Sit back, relax, grab a drink and enjoy the show.
