The cost of living is rising. Ecological disaster is around the corner. Our response? To reboot our movement. Our new manifesto, unveiled today, offers a simple but radical message: the EU will only be democratised once its oligarchy is overthrown. Today is a day to remember what Europe isn’t. In 2017 Macron won the French presidency, with 64% of the vote against the 34% of far-right candidate Marine Le Pen. The extreme centre celebrated his victory as a turning of the tide against the “populist revolution” that brought about Brexit and Trump. Fast forward to 2022, though, and history is repeating itself. Macron is facing off against Le Pen — but this time, Le Pen actually has a chance of winning.
