These subtle nudges often lead to transformative experiences. -       We chat about the importance of leaning into discomfort. Recognizing that challenges and traumas are opportunities for growth, we discuss the importance of facing and processing these experiences. -       Whether you view yourself as a victim or a master of your destiny can significantly impact your life. Changing the meaning attached to events can lead to profound transformations. -       Dr. Espen shares a personal experience with breathwork that resulted in physical and emotional healing. The breathwork helped him release stored trauma, demonstrating the mind-body connection and the potential for psychosomatic healing through conscious breathing techniques. [20:50] Understanding the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Systems for Optimal Performance and Resilience -       Understanding the interplay between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) systems is crucial for achieving a beautiful state and peak performance. -       The innate design favors a beautiful state (parasympathetic) 90% of the time, yet modern lifestyles often flip this balance. Chronic stress and fear-based stimuli prevalent in society contribute to an imbalance, triggering the fight or flight response more frequently than necessary. -       With the imprint period (ages 1-7) crucial in shaping one's reality, choosing love-based, high-frequency content over fear or stress-based material becomes paramount for a healthy neural blueprint. -       Acknowledging that challenges will arise, Dr. Espen advocates for adopting a warrior mindset. Rather than succumbing to fear, facing challenges head-on with resilience and determination allows individuals to overcome adversity and thrive in their chosen environments. [24:40] Unlocking the Power Within - Rewiring Trauma, Redefining Abundance -       Dr. Espen dives into the psychological imprints surrounding money and abundance. He asserts that the root cause of financial challenges often lies in childhood imprints, where individuals unknowingly inherit fear-based money programs. -       Reprogramming the unconscious mind becomes essential for shifting from scarcity to abundance. -       Exploring the physiological impact of breathing, Dr. Espen elucidates the connection between breath patterns and the nervous system. By demonstrating a simple breathing exercise focused on nasal and abdominal breathing, he illustrates how conscious breathwork can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and countering the effects of chronic stress. -       Dr. Espen demystifies meditation, emphasizing its simplicity. By bringing awareness to the breath—specifically, being conscious of inhalation and exhalation - you can guide yourself into a meditative state. -       Meditation doesn't require a perfectly still mind; rather, it involves the continuous process of bringing the wandering mind back to the present moment. [36:10] Insights on Stress, Presence, Nutrition, and Emotional Eating -       Dr. Espen discusses how the sympathetic nervous system, activated in the fight or flight response, diverts blood and energy away from the digestive system. This diversion is a survival mechanism, prioritizing resources for immediate physical activity rather than digestion. Understanding this interplay is crucial for recognizing the impact of stress on digestion. -       Dr. Espen simplifies states of being into contraction (stress) and expansion (presence and love). He underscores the pervasive influence of these states on the nervous system, emphasizing the shift between fear-based stress and love-based presence. -       Dr. Espen introduces the concept of being "overfed and undernourished." He highlights the importance of recognizing the difference between consuming calories and receiving essential nutrients. This paradigm shift, coupled with practices like intermittent fasting, can lead to improved metabolic health and increased awareness of emotional eating patterns. -       It is time to confront emotions tied to food, such as anger, stress, and anxiety. Fasting becomes a tool for self-awareness, allowing individuals to discern genuine hunger from emotional cravings and fostering a healthier relationship with food. [43:10] Embracing Accountability, Leaning into Challenges, and Transforming Lives with Conscious Leadership -       Transitioning from a clinical role to coaching, Dr. Espen speaks as a coach who values accountability and challenges individuals to strive for excellence rather than settling for mediocrity. -       Instead of avoiding issues or delaying decisions, Dr. Espen advocates for leaning into discomfort with both consciousness and love. -       Lean into discomfort in an ice bath, fasting, or facing challenges in various life areas. By doing so, individuals gain mastery over their lives and empower themselves for growth and transformation. -       Intentional confrontation of challenges prevents the repetition of a disempowering autonomic nervous system response and ensures that external outcomes align with personal desires. [53:20] The Transformative Power of Gratitude for Positivity and Purposeful Living -       Dr. Espen emphasizes the transformative power of gratitude, highlighting its presence in ancient cultures and religions. -       By cultivating wholehearted gratitude for both challenges and blessings, individuals can shift their focus towards positivity and attract more things to be grateful for in their lives. -       Gratitude is positioned as a fundamental way of living consciously. -       Dr. Espen encourages listeners to bring their focus back to gratitude, even in challenging moments, to align with positive energy and experiences. This conscious choice can contribute to a more fulfilling and purposeful life. AND MUCH MORE! They ask when you’re getting engaged. When you’re engaged, they ask when you will get married.  If you get divorced, then people think that means you failed. Well, one of the greatest gifts we can give is recognizing the value of goodbyes.  Sometimes, the most loving thing you can do is leave.  After three months of engagement, Mark left his relationship.  [17:00] Stress and High Conflict Relationships Are Creating Poor Health  High conflict couples have higher amounts of leaky gut.  There’s an inflammatory process that occurs when we're dysregulated. When you avoid chaos on the outside, you internalize it.  If you’re anxious about something, it can lead to a sick stomach.  The journey of relationships is teaching us how incredibly wise we are. [22:10] Are You Going To A Job That You Hate? Stop Doing Things You Don’t Love Most heart attacks happen on Monday morning between 8 am and 9 am. Your body gives many warnings; it’s normal to live through those warnings.  When we perpetually do things we don’t love, it sends the message that we don’t believe in ourselves.  If you want to find what matters to you, then find what breaks your heart.  After Mark’s relationship ended, he felt so connected to himself. However, he was judged by everyone for it.  [27:45] Please Avoid Losing Yourself In Your Relationships When a relationship ends, you’ll hear people say, “they took a part of me.” In society, we are taught that people complete us.  Also, it’s normal to give up everything for love.  However, if you lose your relationship, you end up losing yourself.  [39:40] Why You Shouldn’t Feel Guilty About Expressing Boundaries When you are afraid to express a boundary, it comes from a beautiful place.  If you don’t want to communicate your boundaries, most likely, you are trying to protect other people from experiencing feelings.  When Mark quit drinking, he feared what other people would think of him at weddings, bachelor parties, and guys trips.  However, Mark had gone to his first wedding sober and had the time of his life.  If you’re not expressing boundaries, you are making other people’s feelings more important than your own.  [47:00] Allow Other People To Be Disappointed Because Boundaries Will Preserve Your Wholeness Allow other people to be disappointed.  Don’t try and save people from disappointment, and don’t let their disappointment correlate to how you feel about yourself.  Boundaries will preserve wholeness.  When you declare a boundary, you have your own back.  [57:40] Take The Time To Learn About Love  Love is a verb.  If we make withdrawals from our love accounts, we can also make deposits.  Great relationships don’t just come to people; they are created through behaviors.  We need to take the time to learn love, and everyone can learn it. Robbie Bent | How Breath-Control Can Transform Your Health, How to Face the Fear & Do It Anyway! KKP: 698

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Robbie Bent. In an effort to affect positive change and address the problem of loneliness and the detrimental effects it has on our individual and collective health, Robbie built a platform that includes physical spaces, a mobile app, a concert tour and a global community. Othership is a digital product to shift your state whenever and wherever you are. Robbie’s app consists of over 250 guided breathwork classes to harness the power of the breath and build promoting habits. A transformative tool that makes up-regulating, down-regulating, and everything in between easeful, effective, and fun. He also goes on tour with live musical breathwork performances, sort of like a Cirque Du Soleil journey inward. In this episode, Robbie speaks about his rock bottom and what he had to do to turn his life around. He talks about the importance of meditation and what it’s like to meditate for ten hours a day for ten days. Then, Robbie dives into breathwork and how breathing can completely change your state. If you’re looking for a free and easy biohack, breathing can be a simple way to improve your health. Tune in as we chat about Othership, how to digest your food better, and the reason you should conquer your fears. [00:35] How Robbie Bent Got To Where He Is Now At 28, Robbie had been working for four years on a startup. One hundred people were working for him, his parents and friends had invested millions of dollars, and his entire income was tied up. The company failed, and Robbie had to fire one hundred people. Robbie sold his car, moved out of his apartment, and moved back in with his parents. Plus, Robbie was struggling with addiction. After reading The 4-hour Workweek, Robbie turned his life around. Get The 4-hour Workweek here: https://www.amazon.com/4-Hour-Workweek-Escape-Live-Anywhere/dp/0307465357/benazadi-20 [08:00] What It Is Like To Meditate Ten Hours A Day For Ten Days It doesn't really matter how much you've been practicing; the difficulty of meditating for ten hours is still the same. After the first few days, you start to ease into the routine. We are always turned on, and we are never bored. How often are you just sitting? Almost never. So, meditating is a nice way to interrupt your routine. [10:55] How Breath-Control Can Change Your State and Heart Rate The breath controls our autonomic nervous system. When you're naturally calm, you will breathe slower. You can actually use your breath to trigger your state. If you need energy in the morning, try sympathetic breathing. Parasympathetic breathing will help you relax. The best way to get into the parasympathetic nervous system is by lengthening the exhale and including breath retention. A big breath in will increase the heart rate and energy. If you are nervous, you need long and slow exhales. [18:00] All About Othership And Finding Peak Experiences A peak experience can happen through breathwork. Othership will help shift your state and quiet the thinking mind. During Covid, Robbie created fear release sessions. The app was created to help people who are struggling with meditation. Plus, there’s a physical space where Robbie has created a community to solve the loneliness pandemic. [23:25] How Doing Breathwork Can Help You Digest Food Better   When you do slow breathing, you’re triggering the parasympathetic state. You will be sending blood flow from the brain and muscles to the organs. That way, you are preparing your body for digestion. Also, eat without looking at your phone. The best thing you can do is be aware while you’re eating. [26:30] Why You Should Practice Breathwork Before Going To Sleep If you eat something acidic before bed, it can affect sleep. Your body needs to regulate its pH balance. As a result, it starts over breathing This can cause dehydration in the evening. If you wake up with a dry mouth, you are mouth breathing. Something you can try is mouth tape. Meditation and breathwork before bed can help with inflammation, breathing patterns, sleep, and dehydration. [29:45] How Breathing Can Replace Caffeine and Increase Blood Flow The “up” section in Othership is creating a fight or flight response. This type of breathwork will send blood flow to the brain. Plus, it will help you get prepared and increase alertness. Breathing is about shifting your state, whereas meditation is about focus and awareness of your thoughts and emotions. You can shift your state with breathing. Think about breathing if you want to reduce your caffeine intake. [33:40] What Robbie Does To Conquer His Fears The more fearful situations you put yourself through, the more your tolerance will increase. Many people are fearful of rejection, so they don’t try. The more you are comfortable with fear, the more you will be willing to try. Get comfortable with discomfort to find what is available to you in life. AND MUCH MORE! He was interested in finding the brain's connections, so he started a career as a brain researcher.  Eventually, he started doing stress management workshops for organizations and corporations. After the workshops, people felt inspired to make changes in their lives. A few months later, very few people actually followed through with those changes. Down the road, Dr. Sideroff began to identify why we have great resistance to managing our stress.  [05:45] Keeping The Nervous System In A Good Place Through Resilience  When we think about resilience, we think about the ability to bounce back and recover after a stressful event.  If you view the world as dangerous, you expect a problem to arise.  When you anticipate danger, your body mobilizes for that danger.  If you're continually activating your nervous system in preparation for danger, you're not allowing your body to recover fully. The ability to bounce back is part of resilience.  [09:40] How The Environment of Our Childhood Will Affect Our Resilience  Primitive Gestalt patterns are how our brain develops throughout childhood based on the lessons of our childhood environment.  Our brain literally forms its circuitry based on those childhood lessons. We adapt to our childhood environment. Then our adaptation gets locked in. If our childhood was dangerous, we as adults continue to think the world is just as dangerous. Resilience is about being able to think outside the box and adapt to our current environment.  Many of the consequences of our childhood are not something that we're always conscious about. [14:50] Unpacking The Unconscious To Live A Happier Life The first step in unpacking the unconscious is a willingness to face complicated feelings, emotions, and issues.  Next, you have to be accepting of whatever emotions you have. You can love your mother and father yet still be angry at them. Living a happier and healthier life is about a willingness to grow up. [20:50] The First Three Pillars From The Path: Mastering the Nine Pillars of Resilience and Success What is the most crucial relationship that you have? It’s the relationship with yourself.  Consider these questions: Are you critical and judgmental of yourself?  Do you put yourself down?  Are you loving, accepting, and compassionate toward yourself?  The first pillar is all about how you treat yourself and then comparing that to the healthy or ideal way of treating yourself. You can do this by becoming consciously aware of your thoughts.  The second pillar is your relationship with others. Are you able to tell the difference between healthy and toxic relationships?  The third pillar is a relationship with something more significant; this extends to the community at large.  [33:40] Autonomic Dysregulation Syndrome and The Process of Aging  Dr. Sideroff has proposed an actual diagnostic code which he calls autonomic dysregulation syndrome.  70 to 80% of visits to the doctor's office result from this autonomic dysregulation syndrome.  It underlies whether you have headaches, high blood pressure, or autoimmune disease.  We now have direct evidence that stress speeds up the aging process.  All illness is simply an expression of the aging process.  Luckily, resilience is one way of slowing down the aging process.  [38:45] Get The Resilience Assessment Booklet From Dr. Stephen Sideroff  Here’s a link to The Resilience Assessment Booklet: https://drstephensideroff.com/resilience-assessment-booklet-395/ Dr. Sideroff has created a comprehensive model for living in balance and health.  His assessment booklet identifies the nine components of his model and gives a brief and readily understood description of these nine elements of a foundation for resilience.  It then presents a 40 item questionnaire and self-scoring profile that allows you to gauge your areas of strength along with those areas needing more significant development. [43:45] The Connection Between Heart Rate Variability and Gratitude Your heart rate is never on a constant level.  If it is constant, that’s a sign that you are unhealthy.  You want to have a heart rate change in a very systematic way. Heart rate variability links your cardiovascular system, nervous system, respiratory system, and emotions.  As you breathe in, your heart rate speeds up because you're activating the sympathetic branch of your nervous system. One of the things that facilitate optimal heart rate variability is gratitude. AND MUCH MORE! [11:00] Insights on Stress and Parasites for Holistic Well-being -       Stress: Prioritizing mental and emotional well-being is crucial for overall health.  Recognizing when a professional endeavor becomes excessively stressful and negatively impacts well-being is vital. -       Parasites: Chantel Ray shares her personal struggle with parasitic infestation, highlighting the delicate balance needed in parasite cleansing to avoid exacerbating health issues and the specific approach, including coffee enemas, that she found effective in her journey. -       Chantel delves into the often-overlooked aspect of regular stool examination for understanding gut health. Examining one's stool is a game-changer in recognizing signs of constipation, diarrhea, and potential issues like giardia or liver flukes. -       It’s time to destigmatize the discomfort around discussing and examining stool by encouraging individuals, even children, to be involved in their own health assessments. [28:35] Mineral Balance and Potassium Requirements in Keto Diets and Coffee Enemas -       Chantel highlights the importance of considering mineral loss, particularly potassium, when incorporating coffee enemas into a health routine. This emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to health practices, taking into account potential nutrient imbalances that may arise from specific interventions. -       While magnesium often takes the spotlight in discussions about keto diets, Chantel draws attention to the often-overlooked importance of potassium. She emphasizes that, especially on a keto diet, individuals may be losing sodium and potassium, and meeting the daily potassium requirement (approximately 4200 milligrams) is crucial for overall well-being. -       Chantel addresses the challenge of obtaining sufficient potassium on a keto diet, where traditional high-potassium foods like bananas and sweet potatoes are restricted. She suggests alternative sources such as salmon and avocados, providing practical insights for individuals seeking to maintain proper potassium levels while adhering to a ketogenic lifestyle. [34:20] Breathing Easier: A Guide to Mold Remediation, Air Quality, and Fragrance-Free Living -       Chantel's proactive approach to mold remediation in her newly acquired house emphasizes the significance of addressing mold concerns promptly. This takeaway suggests that even in situations where mold is inevitable, taking action to remediate and improve air quality is crucial for a healthy living environment. -       Chantel advocates for investing in high-quality air filters. -       Chantel emphasizes the importance of comprehensive air quality management by recommending a minimum of three air filters for each house. This takeaway encourages individuals to think beyond single-room solutions and adopt a holistic approach to ensure consistent and high-quality air throughout the entire living space. -       Lastly, establish limits on fragrances in your home. Prioritize personal health and comfort, even in social situations, by addressing potential sources of discomfort such as strong scents. [40:10] Fasting Wisdom: Hormesis, Individualized Approaches, and Medication Management -       Chantel Ray introduces the concept of hormesis in fasting, emphasizing the importance of finding the right balance to make fasting truly beneficial. She suggests that both too little and too much stress (in the form of fasting) can be counterproductive, highlighting the need to identify the optimal window for individual health benefits. -       Chantel's experience with thyroid issues during an extended fast underscores the importance of an individualized approach to fasting. -       She stresses the need to consider factors such as medication and existing health conditions, advocating for a personalized fasting strategy that aligns with an individual's unique circumstances. -       Communicate with healthcare professionals and make necessary adjustments to medication when embarking on fasting regimens, ensuring a safe and effective approach to health. [51:30] Harmony of Breath, Sleep, and Supplements -       Chantel emphasizes the importance of mindful breathing and oxygen intake for overall well-being. -       By actively engaging in practices such as breathwork and utilizing tools like a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, Chantel speaks about the potential benefits of intentional breathing for physical and mental well-being. -       Chantel shares insights into the impact of sleep on her overall health, using the Ōura Ring to track her sleep patterns. Her dedication to maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, adjusting nightly routines, and addressing factors like hydration and potassium intake reflects a proactive approach to optimizing sleep quality for improved health. -       Lastly, personalized supplementation and dietary adjustments to address specific health concerns will improve sleep patterns. Phil got certified as a trainer at eighteen. His passion is to help people lose weight, gain muscle, and live longer. Phil is a firm believer in high repetitions. [02:40] How To Figure Out Which Workout Is Best For Your Body First, figure out what your goals are. If you want to be a bodybuilder, then you are going to need heavier weights. If you have injuries and don't want to hurt yourself, start with pushups and pullups. It’s time to push past the limits of your body. [04:00] Are You New To Fitness? Phil Fit Explains How To Get Started Start by walking each and every day. If you can walk, then start with a mile. Do a mile each day for one month. You can also work on pushups, triceps dips, and crunches. Make sure that you wake up every day and celebrate your body. [05:50] How To Tell If You Are Exercising Too Much: Listen To Your Body Listen to your body. If you are totally exhausted and depleted, then it’s time to take a break. When you exercise the right amount with the right intensity, you should feel more energized for the day. If you did too much for your body to adapt to, then you're going to feel exhausted for the rest of the day. [11:10] Resting Is Just As Important As The Exercise Itself In order to grow, you definitely need to get the proper rest. Sleep is important; power naps can be a useful tool on your fitness journey. If you didn’t have the best sleep at night, then don’t be afraid to take a nap. Your body is tearing down muscle in the gym, and then you're building it up when you're resting and repairing. If you can’t handle high-intensity training, Phil may not be the right fit for you. If you want to get those fitness results, you need to be serious about it. A lot of people want to talk to their trainer at the gym, Phil is willing to be that therapist for them. [21:45] Phil Gives His Thoughts On The Status of Metabolic Health in America Phil says we need to get rid of fast food. There are more people in line at McDonald’s vs. a healthier choice. Phil wants to help people who are obese. They don’t know what to do when it comes to eating and working out. If you have a weight problem, reach out to someone that can help you. [25:05] Are You Overweight? It’s Time To Trade Your Doctor For A Trainer You don’t need more medicines. Instead, you need to get your body moving. Celebrate each step that you take. If you can’t walk a mile, then give yourself ten steps each day. The next day, add another step. Never stop moving your body. If you don’t know what to eat, find someone who is knowledgeable about food. [09:20] Karen's Menopausal Odyssey: A Rapid Onset, Unusual Timeline, and the Role of Thyroid Medication -       Karen experienced a sudden and intense onset of menopausal symptoms within a six-month period. This included a significant increase in follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) to menopausal levels, a drop in estrogen and progesterone, as well as other symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain in the stomach area, itchy skin, and breast tenderness. -       Her experience of going through menopause deviated from the typical timeline. Instead of the gradual progression over 10 years of perimenopause followed by a couple of years of more intense symptoms, Karen’s symptoms intensified rapidly, leading to a quicker transition into menopause. -       Karen discovered that the thyroid medication she was taking played a role in exacerbating her hormonal imbalance. -       Luckily, Karen successfully reversed some of the adverse effects of early menopause by implementing changes in her lifestyle and incorporating hormone replacement therapy. [15:20] Dietary Challenges and Hormonal Harmony -       Karen observed issues arising from a prolonged and intense adherence to hardcore keto diets among her clients, as well as in her own experience. Problems included menstrual irregularities, hair loss, and weight regain. Individuals were resorting to more extreme measures like extended fasting and carnivore diets in an attempt to address these challenges. -       Initially, the hardcore keto approach appeared to yield positive results, with clients experiencing improved energy levels, weight loss, and relief from menopausal symptoms. However, over the long term, these benefits diminished, prompting Karen to investigate the impact on the thyroid and other hormonal systems. -       Karen emphasizes the importance of understanding the body's response to dietary signals, particularly in the context of signaling abundance or scarcity. -       Karen advocates for the Keto Flex approach, incorporating carbohydrate intake a few days a week to signal abundance and support reproductive functions. [21:35] Optimizing Protein Intake: Recommendations for Weightlifters and Non-Lifters, Daily Distribution, and Whole-Food Emphasis -       Karen suggests adjusting protein intake based on whether an individual engages in weightlifting. For those not lifting weights, she recommends a slightly lower protein intake, around 0.5 to 0.8 grams per pound of body weight. -       However, for those involved in weightlifting, she recommends aiming for the standard guideline of 1 gram per pound of ideal body weight. -       Karen emphasizes the importance of distributing protein intake throughout the day. Ideally, individuals should aim for 30 to 35 grams of protein per meal. -       While acknowledging that many women may need to supplement their protein intake with shakes or essential amino acids, Karen emphasizes the preference for obtaining protein from whole food sources rather than relying solely on supplements. [23:05] Navigating Hormonal Health: Baseline Assessment, Sensitivity Variations, and Proactive Intervention in Perimenopause -       Karen emphasizes the importance of getting a baseline of hormones, especially during the fertile years in one's 30s. -       Different individuals have varying sensitivities to hormones, and what is considered normal or within the range may differ from person to person. -       Perimenopause typically begins between the ages of 35 and 40, marked by a decline in progesterone due to less frequent ovulation. Karen advises paying attention to subtle signs, such as weight gain, worsening periods, insomnia, or other symptoms emerging in the late 30s. Proactive intervention during this phase is recommended. -       Waiting until significant symptoms manifest may complicate treatment. Unfortunately, Karen notes that many doctors may be reluctant to address hormonal issues until a woman is in menopause, and finding a doctor willing to provide appropriate treatment with bioidentical hormones can be challenging. [37:05] Reverse T3, Testing Challenges, and the Impact of Heavy Metal Toxicity -       Karen stresses the importance of testing for reverse T3, a thyroid hormone that is often overlooked by doctors. -       She notes that obtaining reverse T3 testing can be challenging in some regions, such as Canada, where it may need to be sent to a lab in California. Doctors may not routinely order this test, so individuals are encouraged to advocate for their health by requesting and even paying for the test themselves. -       Karen explains that a crucial aspect of thyroid health is the relationship between free T4 and free T3. -       Lastly, Karen shares her personal experience of heavy metal toxicity affecting her thyroid health. Gigi Ashworth | Why Salmon Is a Super Food For Weight Loss on Keto, & The Problem With Fish Oil Supplements KKP: 693

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Gigi Ashworth. She is a former competitive snowboarder and horseback rider that has since become a popular allergen-friendly food personality and cook across social media platforms, with a master’s certificate in Nutrition Communications from Tufts University. However, prior to obtaining her master’s degree, she got her broadcast journalism degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and even worked as the 3 AM weather girl at Denver’s ABC affiliate. When she finished her studies in Colorado, she moved to Los Angeles (she now lives in Georgia again with her husband and two baby boys, who find her adoration for salmon quite comical) to pursue a career in the entertainment hosting field. That career focus led her to start a humorous blog and YouTube channel called GiGi Eats Celebrities that showcases her personality and her extreme passion for realistic nutrition. This blog and YouTube channel turned into platforms where people with diet, nutrition, and health concerns, as her own enthusiasm for such topics stems from her severe diet-related issues (Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, IBS, and no large intestine), can get advice (such as traveling with food intolerances and/or autoimmune diseases) along with allergen-friendly/keto diet approved recipes that everyone can enjoy. Her platforms (she now mainly focuses her efforts on her Instagram page, which currently boasts roughly 360,000 followers) have allowed her to garner the attention of many (who have described her as having an infectious, no bullshit, hilarious, salmon-loving personality). This led to her authoring her first book, She Does Keto, which is an informational cookbook, just like Seduced By Salmon, however, it covers the topic of the ketogenic diet and why it’s beneficial for women (and also contains 115 recipes). She was tapped to write a book on this topic because she has been living a ketogenic lifestyle for the last 18 years before it was even a “thing,” and researches this way of eating on the daily. As a devoted fitness enthusiast, a rather blunt and light-heartedly vulgar diehard allergen-friendly foodie that has been dubbed the Salmon Queen (she eats roughly eight pounds of salmon a week and has been doing so for the last ten plus years, and showcases this on the daily through Instagram stories and posts), she has been told that she is proof that you can educate and inform as well as entertain all at the same time! In this episode, Gigi Ashworth explains how she became The Salmon Queen on social media. Every single second of every day, Gigi craves salmon because of its great taste and fantastic health benefits. Gigi busts common myths around salmon and describes why you should think twice about buying wild-caught salmon during your next shopping trip. If you don’t already, research and determine where the salmon you purchase comes from. Tune in as we discuss the inspiration behind Gigi’s books, some of Gigi’s favorite salmon recipes, and why you should never eat tilapia.  This episode originally aired in November 2022. / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. While on the other hand, a pound of salmon keeps her satiated.  Now, Gigi craves salmon every single second of every single day.  [22:00] The Reason Gigi Recommends Farmed Salmon Instead of Wild Caught Salmon Most people think wild-caught salmon is the way to go. Farming salmon started to take shape in the 1960s.  In the 1980s, they started to regulate farmed salmon. Farmed salmon is much better than wild-caught salmon because of how regulated it is.  Gigi recommends Kvaroy Arctic: https://www.kvaroyarctic.com/ [27:40] Do Your Research: Where Is Your Salmon Coming From?  There are a lot of toxins in the ocean. Wild salmon can have loads of toxins and mercury in them. Big fish will hold mercury, so you aren’t supposed to eat swordfish.  Also, wild salmon is being overfished and is more expensive than farmed fish.  Why buy garbage salmon when you can buy farmed salmon that has been fed to enhance health?  Before buying salmon, Gigi also researches where exactly it comes from.  [31:55] Keto Recipe: Making Taco Shells Using Salmon Skin Gigi will skin the salmon to make her famous taco shells. Using taco shell holders, you can air fry the skin and have a healthy taco shell! Gigi loves to create a salmon poke with avocado, sesame seeds, and ginger using her taco shells. You can also fill the taco shells with sardines, scallops, chicken, or beef! [39:25] Why Tilapia Is So Incredibly Unhealthy For You  Tilapia is a garbage fish! Tilapia is high in omega-6 fatty acids. You want your omega-3 and omega-6 ratio to be as close to 1:1 as possible. Unfortunately, most people get a 1:16 ratio in their diets for omega-3 and omega-6. [43:55] The Inspiration Behind The Complete Ketogenic Diet For Women The keto lifestyle is beneficial for so many people! Keto helps women with their hormone levels.  Also, keto is excellent for endometriosis, PCOS, and weight loss.  Hormones are what typically cause women to gain weight. With a keto lifestyle, your hormones will calm down, and your metabolism will kick into high gear.  She Does Keto: The Complete Ketogenic Diet for Women: https://www.amazon.com/She-Does-Keto-Complete-Ketogenic/dp/1641523573/benazadi-20.
