Chronic mistreatment, such as severe calorie restriction over prolonged periods, can definitely harm it. -       Drawing from her own experiences with professional ballet dancers, she underscores the potential damage caused by extreme dietary habits. -       Her doctoral research dives into the energy metabolism of female athletes, comparing professional athletes with recreationally active ones. Surprisingly, despite the rigorous training schedules of professional athletes, they consumed significantly fewer calories than their recreational counterparts. Moreover, their metabolic rates were notably lower, indicating the adverse effects of chronic under-eating on metabolism. -       Despite the grim picture painted by metabolic damage, Dr. Lucas offers a beacon of hope. She asserts that, based on her extensive experience working with individuals and her own journey, it's possible to rehabilitate a damaged metabolism and restore it to a healthy state. [08:10] Overcoming Emotional Barriers: The Key to Successful Weight Loss -       Dr. Lucas highlights how fear often manifests as a significant barrier to progress. Whether it's fear of failure or fear of success, these emotions can derail individuals from reaching their weight loss goals. -       The power of mindset in achieving weight loss goals cannot be overstated. Dr. Lucas emphasizes that individuals who approach their journey with an open mind and a positive attitude tend to have smoother transformations. -       Visualization and belief in the possibility of reaching a lower weight play crucial roles in overcoming self-imposed limitations. -       Weight loss isn't just about shedding physical pounds; it's also a journey of emotional release. [12:45] Environment Matters: Cultivating Surroundings for Success -       Dr. Lucas emphasizes the profound influence of our environment on our behavior and thought patterns. -       She echoes the sentiment that our surroundings often have more sway over our actions than sheer willpower alone. By acknowledging the significance of the environment, individuals can begin to cultivate surroundings conducive to their goals. -       She highlights the tendency to construct stories based on our thoughts, reinforcing certain beliefs and behaviors. To counteract this, she suggests actively rewriting these stories through positive self-talk and exposure to uplifting content. -       Gratitude emerges as a powerful tool for shifting perspective and fostering positivity. Dr. Lucas advocates for daily gratitude practices, even in the face of challenges. [16:50] Unlocking Weight Loss Success: Prioritizing Quality Sleep -       Dr. Lucas acknowledges that individuals have different lifestyles and schedules but emphasizes that achieving weight loss goals is still possible regardless of circumstances. -       She shares success stories of clients from varied professions, highlighting that commitment and dedication are essential for success. -       Dr. Lucas emphasizes the importance of not just the duration but also the quality of sleep. She explains how fragmented sleep can hinder weight loss progress, citing research indicating the hormonal impact of inadequate sleep on metabolism and appetite regulation. -       She advises individuals to prioritize obtaining sufficient, uninterrupted sleep each night to optimize hormonal balance, reduce stress, and facilitate weight loss more effectively. [34:30] Exercise for Wellness: Maximizing Health Beyond Weight Loss -       Dr. Lucas views exercise not solely as a weight loss tool but as a holistic approach to wellness. -       She emphasizes that incorporating exercise into one's routine can improve overall well-being by reducing stress, improving sleep, and boosting mood. -       Highlighting the significance of muscle mass, Dr. Lucas underscores its role as a marker of longevity and metabolic currency. She warns against neglecting muscle mass during weight loss, as losing muscle can decrease metabolic rate and hinder long-term success. -       Dr. Lucas recommends three main types of exercise: brisk walking, strength training, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). [51:00] Examining Food Additives: A Call for Stricter Regulation and Informed Consumption -       Dr. Lucas discusses California's ban on Red Dye 40, an ingredient commonly found in foods like Skittles. -       She highlights its link to behavioral issues and cancer, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations on harmful additives in food products. -       Dr. Lucas advocates for a balanced approach to consuming treats, especially during Halloween. -       Rather than completely restricting candy, she suggests allowing children to enjoy a moderate amount while being mindful of the potential impact of additives on health. -       Dr. Lucas raises awareness about the profit-driven motives of food companies and the lack of regulation surrounding harmful additives in the United States compared to Europe. Dr Nazlie Latefi | Exposing The Dark Side of the Flu/Cold Industry, The Best Meals to Support Immune Health & The Best Holistic Flu/Cold OTC Options KKP: 742

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Nazlie Latefi. She is a life sciences expert holding a PhD in molecular biology and neuroscience and has many years of experience advising the investment industry on health and sustainability. She has written for numerous publications and is currently a principle research analyst at Pegasus Capital Advisors, a private equity firm focused on health and sustainability.  In this episode, you’ll learn how Dr. Nazlie has redefined the landscape of preventive healthcare through a holistic approach to thwart sickness at its roots. Initially motivated to combat influenza epidemics, Dr. Nazlie and her team dove into the intricate world of adhesion molecules, unraveling their role as gateways for viral entry into cells. What began as a quest for antivirals evolved into the emergence of Biovanta, a company dedicated to enhancing natural defenses in the nose and throat.  We chat about immune system boosting, particularly the innate immune system, laying the groundwork for a preventative well-being approach. Biovanta, with its strategic use of aspirin, not only addresses symptoms but also manages inflammation, showcasing a dual benefit for immune health. Dr. Nazlie's insights extend to exercise, underscoring the need for a balanced and mindful approach, and culminate in holistic habits as the linchpin for immune health optimization. Tune in as we talk about the interconnectedness of lifestyle choices and immune function, setting Biovanta at the forefront of a new era in preventative healthcare.  Get BioVanta products here: https://biovanta.com/discount/KETOKAMP20 Use the coupon code KETOKAMP20 for 20% off (new customers only) 🥑 Get your Keto Recipe of the Week here:  http://www.ketokamprecipes.com  / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  Wild Pastures: $20 OFF per Box for Life + Free Shipping for Life + $15 OFF your 1st Box! https://wildpastures.com/promos/save-20-for-life-lf?oid=6&affid=132&source_id=podcast&sub1=ad BonCharge: Blue light Blocking Glasses, Red Light Therapy, Sauna Blankets & More. This finding highlighted the importance of adhesion molecules in viral infections and sparked her interest in exploring ways to prevent viral entry into cells. -       Motivated by the desire to find ways to prevent illness during influenza epidemics, Dr. Nazlie began researching methods to protect against viruses. This was before the widespread use of masks and the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the focus was on developing antivirals to safeguard against infections. -       As research progressed, the concept of Biovanta emerged. Dr. Nazlie and her team dove into the natural defenses present in the nose and throat that can protect against illness. -       The company's goal expanded beyond antivirals to address inflammation and challenges within the cold and flu industry, aiming to provide a more effective approach to preventing sickness. [15:00] The Legacy and Limits of Over-the-Counter Cold and Flu Remedies -       Standard over-the-counter cold and flu remedies have been in the regulatory landscape of the FDA since the 1950s. -       These medications were grandfathered in before a deeper understanding of genetics and advanced scientific knowledge. -       The FDA allowed these remedies to make specific claims prominently displayed on their packaging, such as "cold and flu symptoms relief." Despite their long-standing presence in the market and these claims, Dr. Nazlie highlights that the regulatory landscape is slow to adapt, and these bold claims on the packaging may influence public perception. -       Scientific studies, conducted over decades in randomized clinical trials, have shown that these traditional over-the-counter remedies do not live up to their claimed efficacy. -       These traditional products have been extensively studied and have consistently demonstrated a lack of effectiveness in lowering symptoms or reducing the duration of sickness. [34:40] Understanding Immune System Boosting for Preventative Well-being -       When people talk about "boosting the immune system," they are primarily referring to the innate immune system, according to Dr. Nazlie. -       Unlike the adaptive immune system, which involves specific antibody production, the innate immune system, including dendritic cells, acts as the first line of defense against pathogens. The goal is to strengthen these initial defense mechanisms. -       The ultimate objective of boosting the immune system, particularly the innate immune system, is to prevent illness from occurring in the first place. -       By enhancing the body's initial defenses, individuals aim to reduce the likelihood of falling ill, contributing to overall well-being. [40:00] Biovanta: The Dual Benefits for Immune Health and Inflammation Management -       The new and improved Biovanta, containing aspirin, is classified as an over-the-counter drug. The inclusion of aspirin in the formula is a strategic choice due to its dual benefits as a fever reducer and anti-inflammatory agent. -       Dr. Nazlie explains that aspirin is chosen for its dual functionality—it not only reduces fever but also possesses anti-inflammatory properties. This dual action is considered crucial for addressing both the symptoms of illness and the associated inflammation. -       Dr. Nazlie highlights a key distinction from Tylenol, emphasizing that when experiencing fever and cold symptoms, it's essential to avoid depleting glutathione. Unlike Tylenol, which may impact glutathione levels, aspirin is chosen to strike a balance between inflammation and the need for antioxidant-rich glutathione. -       The discussion revolves around the delicate balance between inflammation and repair in the immune response. [42:50] Insights on Exercise, Wellness, and Immune Health -       Dr. Nazlie shares her experience with a spinning class and praises the instructor's intelligence on wellness. The instructor emphasized the importance of balance in exercise, warning against excessive intensity and frequency. -       Overdoing high-intensity workouts more than once or twice a week may not yield the desired benefits and could be counterproductive. -       Dr. Nazlie underscores the significance of giving the body time to repair, emphasizing that excessive stress from frequent intense workouts can hinder the recovery process. -       Drawing parallels to immune health, Dr. Nazlie discusses how excessive exercise stress, such as marathon running, can weaken the immune system. This aligns with the idea that proper recovery is essential for overall well-being, including immune function. -       The conversation highlights the need for a balanced and mindful approach to exercise for optimal health outcomes. [47:30] Holistic Habits and Immune Health Optimization -       One of the significant mistakes people make in trying to improve their immune system is the lack of balance in their daily habits. -       Dr. Nazlie emphasizes the need for a holistic approach, considering factors like exercise, stress management, and overall well-being. -       The immune system is constantly calibrating based on daily habits. To effectively respond to threats, the body needs to be in a healthy state. -       Dr. Nazlie points out that mental stress can lead to increased cortisol levels, which are highly inflammatory and can hijack the immune system. Managing mental stress is crucial for maintaining a balanced and healthy immune response. While many people initially turn to intermittent fasting for these reasons, she suggests that it's crucial to recognize the broader impact on the body's optimal functioning. -       Cynthia highlights the contrast between modern-day lifestyles and historical eating habits. She mentions that, until about a century ago, food scarcity was common, and people often experienced periods of fasting. -       With the rise of processed foods and constant food accessibility, our bodies may not be functioning optimally. Fasting, according to Cynthia, helps individuals reconnect with the natural way our bodies are designed to operate. -       The body should be able to flexibly switch between utilizing stored carbohydrates and fats for energy. By training the body through fasting and mindful meal structuring, individuals can enhance their metabolic flexibility. [16:15] Cellular Regulation, Protein Intake, and Healthy Solutions -       Cynthia emphasizes that hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, is not a benign condition. Instead, she sees it as a sign that the receptors on cells are not properly regulated. -       Cynthia notes that individuals, especially women, often under-eat protein unknowingly. She links this to metabolic health issues and suggests reflecting on the protein content of meals prior to hypoglycemic episodes. -       Ensuring an adequate intake of protein becomes a fundamental aspect of addressing hypoglycemia. -       Cynthia advises against traditional sugary solutions for hypoglycemia, such as juice, candy, or muffins. Instead, she recommends healthier options, like a piece of fruit paired with protein. [23:15] Intermittent Fasting: Age, Hormones, and Strategies for Women's Well-being -       Cynthia emphasizes that women's fasting strategies should consider age and hormonal fluctuations. Menopausal women and men share similarities in hormonal stability, while younger women, especially those under 35, experience more significant hormonal changes. This distinction guides the approach to intermittent fasting for different age groups. -       Lean athletic women aged 35 and under are advised to be cautious with regular fasting. Cynthia suggests that even if they are not planning to have children, these women's bodies are sensitive to nutrient depletion. -       Women under 35 who are not metabolically healthy, especially those with conditions like PCOS, may benefit from intermittent fasting. -       Perimenopausal women (35 to 50) experience hormonal fluctuations, making stress management and quality sleep crucial. Cynthia advises against adding intermittent fasting if stress and sleep are not well-managed. [40:30] Health Conditions, Medication Stability, and Individual Well-being -       Cynthia emphasizes that the effectiveness and safety of intermittent fasting depend on the individual's context. She highlights that one's health condition, including factors like Hashimoto's, medication stability, energy levels, and overall well-being, should be considered before incorporating fasting. -       Cynthia advises caution for individuals who are newly diagnosed with hypothyroidism and are experiencing symptoms such as low energy, hair loss, constipation, and dry skin. She suggests that fasting should not be added to the treatment regimen during this stage. -       Stability on medication and overall well-being are prerequisites for considering intermittent fasting. -       There is no one-size-fits-all recommendation, and what may work for one person might not be suitable for another. [44:30] Navigating Heart Rate Variability: Age, Travel, and Autonomic Balance -       Cynthia acknowledges that heart rate variability (HRV) varies with age, and she doesn't expect her HRV to match that of someone younger. -       She emphasizes the individual nature of HRV and the understanding that age plays a role in its fluctuations. -       Cynthia shares her experience of how travel can affect HRV. She mentions a specific instance in Denver where her HRV dropped, highlighting that environmental factors, such as changes in location, can influence HRV readings. -       Cynthia sees HRV as a valuable tool for assessing the balance in the autonomic nervous system. She explains how HRV provides an objective measure of the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) sides of the autonomic nervous system. [47:20] Cynthia Unveils the Physiological Depths of Intermittent Fasting -       Cynthia argues that the benefits of intermittent fasting stem more from eating less often than simply eating fewer calories. -       She believes there are physiological changes beyond caloric restriction, including alterations in hormonal regulation and autophagy. -       Cynthia challenges the notion that intermittent fasting is solely about calories in, calories out. -       She highlights the importance of understanding that intermittent fasting involves more than just caloric restriction, emphasizing hormonal regulation and the process of autophagy. Dr Nick Bitz | How to Kill Zombie Senescent Cells With Autophagy to Lower Inflammation, Boost Immunity & Reverse Aging! KKP: 739

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Nick Bitz. He is a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine specialising in Ayurvedic medicine. He is presently the Senior Vice President of Product Development at Neurohacker Collective, a company that uses complex systems research to create revolutionary solutions for health and well-being. Dr Nick is interested in Ayurvedic medicine because of his health crisis. When he was a kid, he fell out of a tree, causing a chronic back issue. Not letting his health crisis pull him down, Dr Nick began his journey of self-care and healing. He dives into Buddhist meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda. Eventually, he landed on acupuncture, where he saw the light that he would live a life free of chronic pain. He uses all the tools he can to heal himself. Ultimately, Dr Nick moved to India and focused on Ayurvedic medicine. In this episode, Dr Nick Bitz talks about what cellular senescence is and why it is related to the reason why humans age. He also discusses keeping healthy cells and developing resilience. Aside from that, Dr Nick dives into why fasting is critical to reset our bodies. Tune in as we chat about cellular senescence, fasting, developing resilience,  Qualia Resilience Supplement, and building immune health. Senescence is a Latin term derived from cynics that simply means to age. As a cell matures and goes through senescence, that's what's known as cellular senescence. The core of aging occurs when cells within our bodies cease dividing and just stay within the body; this is known as senescence cells. [17:20] Tips To Prevent Senescence Cells and Keep Cells Healthy Free radicals can cause senescence cells. Increasing NAD levels would aid in support of mitochondrial pathways, ensuring the health of cells. You want to make sure that when cells are harmed, they have the ability to repair themselves. Consuming too much alcohol and eating too many fried meals can all contribute to damaged cells, which subsequently initiate the body's senescence cell mode. [28:06] The Health Benefits of Stress! A little amount of stress is beneficial to us since it will be the cause to move you into action. Cold plunges are also helpful because they create resiliency on every level of the body. Apart from stress and cold plunges, adaptogens also create resilience. It is like a buffer in the external world. [31:32] Fasting Is Critical To Let Your Body Heal And Reset From This Toxic World Fasting is one of the lifestyles that support cellular senescence. Fasting stimulates Autophagy. Thus it can help prevent senescence cells. With the toxic world we live in, fasting is critical to let our body reset and do its normal functions. Fasting, in general, is most suited to big heavyset body types. [38:24] Do This to Boost Your Mental Function Qualia Resilience Supplement is a stress formula that doesn't inhibit motivation.  Its purpose is to elevate mental function as well as buffered the effects of stress. You can do the regimen for five days on and then take a break on weekends. This will give you more freedom.  It is not intended to knock you out in order to encourage deep sleep. It's designed to provide you with adaptogenic chemicals that normalize physiology needed later in the evening. And that's exactly what it's intended for; it's mostly a nocturnal adaptogen; I wouldn't advocate using adaptogens in the afternoon. [47:40] How to Build a Bulletproof Immune System Immune cells, like all other cells in the body, ultimately die. And as these immune cells age, your immune function declines over time. As a result, part of the immune cell function and purpose in the body is to monitor the body for these senescent cells and subsequently remove and eradicate them.  Beta-glucans can help your body build immunity. You may start small and gradually increase your immune intelligence so that when you have any environmental exposure, your body is ready to respond in a healthy, intelligent manner. Taking Vitamin D, vitamin K, and zinc regularly is also recommended to build immunity. AND MUCH MORE! Dr Eric Berg | Is Keto Being Censored? The Surprising Attacks Against Keto From The Plant Based Movement KKP: 738

Today, I am blessed to have Dr. Eric Berg here with me. He is The Knowledge Doc, and he founded the Berg Institute of Health & Wellness in 1997 in Seminole, Florida, where he now serves as the Institute's CEO. The Institute aims to help people understand their health, their body's needs, and how to overcome nutritional deficiencies. Dr. Berg enables people to take ownership of their health and well-being to achieve their ideal weight loss goals empowered by a keto diet and intermittent fasting. In this episode, Dr. Berg chats about modern health challenges, shedding light on fat storage mechanisms, the role of ketones as a cleaner fuel, and the impact of abundant food availability on our health. Dr. Berg debunks common myths surrounding insulin responses to fat, sugar, and protein, emphasizing the crucial role of glucagon in maintaining a balanced physiological state. We dive into the intricate relationship between inflammation, the immune response, and dietary triggers, mainly focusing on the long-term consequences of chronic inflammation induced by certain foods.  Plus, Dr. Berg challenges the conventional view of cholesterol, highlighting the essential functions of LDL in the body's healing processes. Moreover, he exposes censorship and disinformation campaigns against the ketogenic diet, calling for grassroots action to counter organized opposition and increase awareness about the benefits of a keto lifestyle. Dr. Berg advocates for a collective effort to create demand for whole, nutritious foods to influence market dynamics and discourage the promotion of processed or lab-based alternatives. 🥑 Get your Keto Recipe of the Week here:  http://www.ketokamprecipes.com  / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  Wild Pastures: $20 OFF per Box for Life + Free Shipping for Life + $15 OFF your 1st Box! https://wildpastures.com/promos/save-20-for-life-lf?oid=6&affid=132&source_id=podcast&sub1=ad BonCharge: Blue light Blocking Glasses, Red Light Therapy, Sauna Blankets & More. Contrary to the misconception that glucose is the primary source of fuel, Dr. Berg suggests that ketones play a crucial role as a primary and cleaner fuel. The body, when in ketosis, utilizes stored fat for energy between meals, making it a more sustainable approach than relying solely on glucose. The discussion touches on how the modern abundance of food has led to a shift away from relying on ketone backup storage. This shift is linked to various health issues, suggesting a connection between the availability of food and the development of diseases. [06:50] Insulin Responses to Fat, Sugar, and Protein, and the Crucial Role of Glucagon Dr. Berg notes that consuming fat does not elicit a significant insulin response. In contrast to sugar, which is known to increase insulin levels, fat has minimal impact on insulin production. While fat going down into the small intestine may slightly increase insulin, the overall response is much lower compared to the insulin spike associated with sugar consumption. Protein intake does lead to a certain degree of insulin increase. However, Dr. Berg explains that the simultaneous release of another hormone called glucagon helps counteract some of the negative effects of insulin. This suggests a more balanced response to protein consumption. The hormone glucagon is highlighted as a counterbalance to insulin. Even when insulin levels rise due to protein consumption, the release of glucagon works to mitigate some of the adverse effects associated with increased insulin. [10:50] Exploring the Interplay Between Inflammation, Immune Response, and Dietary Triggers Inflammation is discussed in relation to the immune response, serving as a natural part of the healing process.  Acute inflammation is described as a cycle where the body responds to infection, and healing occurs with increased blood flow.  However, chronic inflammation may result from continuous activation caused by certain inflammatory foods. Long-term inflammation, especially triggered by foods like seed oils, refined starches, and sugar, can lead to issues like leaky gut. This condition allows foreign substances to enter the body, leading to immune reactions and contributing to autoimmune diseases.  Conditions like thyroid autoimmune, brain autoimmune, or joint issues are attributed to immune problems originating in the gut. [31:30] Dr. Berg Debunks the 'Bad Cholesterol' Myth and Emphasizes Its Crucial Role in Body Function Dr. Berg emphasizes the essential function of LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) in the body, contrary to the common belief that it is solely "bad cholesterol" meant to clog arteries.  The actual function of LDL is to deliver cholesterol to various parts of the body, contributing to the synthesis of vitamin D, bile, cell membranes, and various hormones, including cortisol, testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. LDL is described as playing a crucial role in the healing process. When the body is in a healing state, LDL levels naturally rise to transport cholesterol to tissues, supporting the production of essential factors for overall health. Dr. Berg critiques the idea of using statins to bring cholesterol levels down to zero, as some doctors suggest. He questions the logic of such an approach, highlighting the importance of cholesterol in hormone production, cell membrane formation, and other vital processes.  [34:00] Dr. Berg Exposes Censorship, Disinformation, and Organized Opposition Against the Ketogenic Diet Dr. Berg notes a decrease in visibility for his keto-related videos and suggests censorship, indicating that authoritative health sources dominate search results for health-related topics. He points out a bias against keto, with negative information and critiques dominating search results for the diet. Dr. Berg suggests a disinformation campaign against the ketogenic diet, fueled by claims linking it to various negative effects such as bad breath, ketoacidosis, heart disease, kidney stones, and "keto crotch." He criticizes the use of observational studies with questionnaires to spread doubt and misinformation about the safety of the ketogenic diet. Dr. Berg highlights an organized opposition against keto, particularly from vegan and plant-based groups.  He questions the mission of some vegan sites, which focus on fighting "fake facts" and misinformation rather than promoting veganism. [48:30] Dr. Berg Calls for Grassroots Action Against Disinformation Campaigns Dr. Berg emphasizes the need for organization within the keto community, pointing out the highly organized and funded opposition to the ketogenic diet. He suggests that a grassroots campaign should be initiated to increase awareness of the situation and inform people about the disinformation campaigns targeting the keto lifestyle. Dr. Berg advocates for creating demand for whole foods that are genuinely healthy. He believes that by collectively increasing the demand for nutritious, whole foods, the market dynamics can be influenced. This approach aims to counter the introduction of lab-based meats or processed foods by not supporting them through consumer demand. Dr. Berg suggests that if individuals collectively reject certain products or diets by not buying into them, it can limit their success in the market. AND MUCH MORE! Allison emphasizes the consequences of prioritizing others over oneself, which leads to exhaustion and resentment.  Plus, Allison advocates for self-celebration and the dangers of constant overthinking and unconscious living. Discussing learned helplessness, she describes it as a form of victimhood, encouraging individuals to reconnect within to tap into their true power. Allison also explores the identification of pain and fear related to genetic health factors, urging a middle-ground approach and the importance of taking responsibility for one's health. They often put the needs of others ahead of their own, neglecting self-care and personal development. She raises the question of why it is challenging for individuals to put themselves first. Allison suggests that the brain may play a role in pushing people towards easy or familiar tasks that don't involve vulnerability or exposure. Over time, Allison notes that people who consistently prioritize others over themselves may face consequences.  This can lead to exhaustion, restlessness, and resentment, as they deplete their own energy without replenishing it. Allison advocates for the transformative power of self-care. Taking small amounts of time, like 10 minutes a day, for activities such as meditation, nature walks, or workouts sends a message to oneself that they are valued.  [11:50] Breaking Free from Overthinking and Unconscious Living Allison emphasizes the importance of celebrating oneself and recognizing personal accomplishments and wins. Without a system of self-celebration, individuals may feel a constant need for more without acknowledging their achievements, leading to a sense of inadequacy. Allison suggests that individuals often find themselves trapped in constant overthinking and information overload. She advocates for grounding oneself in the body, feeling into the heart, and moving away from excessive mental chatter.  She points out that many people live unconsciously, unaware of the energetic dynamics at play—suppressed emotions, ingrained beliefs, or old programs running in the background. Lack of awareness, according to Allison, is a significant challenge as individuals may not realize they have the power to make choices and change their lives. [18:15] Learned Helplessness and Rediscovering Inner Strength Allison describes learned helplessness as a form of victimhood. It's a state where individuals feel overwhelmed and unable to take action because they have learned to give up. This can manifest as a sense of powerlessness and a belief that life is too overwhelming to handle. People may resort to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as numbing out or addictive behavior, as a way to dissociate from the overwhelming feelings of disconnection.  Regardless of external chaos, reconnecting within allows individuals to tap into their true power and make empowered choices in their lives. Allison acknowledges that pain, whether physical or emotional, is an integral part of life. Instead of succumbing to learned helplessness, she encourages individuals to recognize that feeling one side of an emotion opens the potential to feel the other side.  [24:25] From Painful Identities to Empowered Ownership in Health and Connection Allison notes that individuals often identify strongly with the pain they have experienced. This identification can contribute to the sense of learned helplessness, where people feel overwhelmed and unable to take action based on their past experiences. She addresses the fear associated with genetic factors in health. Allison encourages a middle ground approach, advising individuals not to blindly accept familial health conditions as destiny.  Allison advocates for taking full responsibility for one's health and well-being. Viewing doctors as consultants and becoming the authority over one's body enables individuals to make informed choices, leading to empowerment.  Cultivating intimacy with oneself through wellness practices fosters a more authentic connection with others. True connection, according to Allison, begins by rekindling the severed connection with oneself. [33:45] Embracing Life's Challenges as Catalysts for Self-Empowerment  Allison highlights that personal growth is an ongoing journey and challenges are a normal part of it.  Contrary to the misconception that personal development reaches a point of completion, she emphasizes that individuals will continue to face challenges and opportunities for growth throughout their lives. Allison sees challenges as opportunities to flex the metaphorical muscle of self-empowerment.  The universe, in her perspective, provides situations to test and strengthen one's ability to take charge, make choices, and stand up for oneself. [46:15] Mind Alignment, Neural Retraining, and Energetic Healing for Personal Transformation Allison emphasizes the importance of aligning the mind as the initial step in her teachings. Training the mind involves quieting it and connecting with the higher mind, which is associated with higher aspects of oneself. This alignment enables individuals to move away from default thought patterns and foster more optimistic thinking authentically. A crucial aspect of mind alignment is examining one's default state of mind. Allison encourages individuals to assess what they think about 90 percent of the time and work on retraining neural pathways. The goal is to break free from learned helplessness and negative feedback loops by cultivating more positive and authentic thinking. Allison incorporates various energetic healing modalities in her teachings, such as meditations and energy work to help students reconnect with their root chakra. Jay T Wiles | Why Heart Rate Variability Is The BEST Health Bio-Marker to Track, How to Understand Your HRV Scores, The Science of The Nervous System & More! KKP: 735

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Jay T. Wiles. He is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Hanu Health. Dr Jay is also a prominent expert in mental health optimization, HRV, and biofeedback.  Dr Jay is a clinical health and performance psychologist. He has a master's degree in clinical therapy and then went on to his doctoral degree in clinical psychology. When he was in his residency, he and his co-workers were exposed to a toxic black mold. This led him to be more interested in health, wellness, and integrative holistic health.  Since then, his residency in the Department of Veteran Affairs grew his desire to study heart rate variability and biofeedback and how it relates to Nervous System Monitoring and functioning.  In 2018, Dr Jay launched his consulting company, which is utilized by elite athletes, high-performance executives, and CEOs to understand data from wearables while learning how to manage their nervous systems using tools and procedures.  His firm, Hanu, was founded in 2021. It is a digital mental health platform that uses wearable technology to track changes in the human stress response. They then train resilience through various techniques.   In this episode, Dr Jay speaks about heart rate variability and its relation to the nervous system. Dr Jay talks about how to gauge parasympathetic balance. Tune in as we chat about Heart Rate Variability, Nervous System, Stress, Parasympathetic Balance, measuring HRV, Pre-Meal Breathwork Sessions, and many more. Get your Hanu Health device, 20% off! Don’t Worry. Nervous System is Adapting!  -       Heart rate and heart rate variability are not the same things. We may acquire a decent insight by evaluating both of them. -       Heart rate variability is similar to examining heart rate through a microscope. -       The heart does not beat to the beat of a metronome. In reality, it rapidly accelerates and decelerates. -       Heart rate variability examines temporal variations or variance, which is the difference in time between each succeeding heartbeat. -       Increased Heart Rate Variability indicates that the nervous system is adaptable; it can assimilate information within its surroundings and adjust. [14:17] Stress is Not Bad, Just Be Adaptable and Regulate Your Nervous System  -       Remember that HRV as a metric does not often behave the same way as many other metrics that serve as the normative basis of comparison. - Several conflicting elements contribute to HRV being what it is. When we compare two people's heart rate variability, it's like comparing apples and oranges. -       A decrease in heart rate variability indicates that the nervous system is too busy and is having a tough time changing and adapting to its surroundings. -       If we are not regulating our nervous system response, as seen by a reduction in heart rate variability, it undoubtedly aggravates any other forms of physiological abnormalities. [19:20] What Is the Best Way to Gauge the Parasympathetic Balance?  -       There are other methods available, but they are often more intrusive. -       Another approach would be to examine general brainwave functioning and changes in brainwave states. -       We have so much evidence in the scientific literature that heart rate variability is now the single best non-invasive technique to have a proxy for nervous system functioning and balance. -       Many people experience nervous system assaults throughout the day, increasing over time. If they are unaware of what is going on, and especially if they are not managing their reaction at that period, we observe the emergence of a host of various mental and physical health problems. -       What we can truly do is train our neurological systems to behave in a more adaptable manner, which will make us happier. [30:17] Using the Device to Measure HRV? Look At the Stress Resiliency Number  -       The Stress Resiliency Number is a 0 to 100 number that takes all of your data and plots it on a 0 to 100 scale. -       If you don’t understand how to interpret HRV, Stress Resiliency Number is a great number to look at. -       Your goal is to get yourself above that 80 to 100 thresholds, which is like our green zone. -       As the HRV goes down, so does your Stress Resiliency Number. [41:59] Digest Your Meal Better, Do A Pre-Meal Breathwork Session  -       It's a biofeedback session to help stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system and the vagus nerve prior to a meal. -       If we go into a meal and eat in a sympathetically driven state, it will cause immense dysbiosis and dysregulation of the gut. -       Do a very short practice, 60 seconds to two minutes of a breathwork session that we call pre-meal. And we also do it post-meal to start that process. -       When people do the breathwork session, their meal does not have nearly as much of an input influence on the metabolically, so we do not see significant amounts of blood sugar rise. Plus, people's nervous system recovers quickly. -       It is imperative to do something parasympathetically stimulating or stimulating our vagus nerve before and after eating. [59:09] Having A Bad Performance Anxiety? Calm Down, Focus and Work to Increase Your HRV -       One major issue that people have is experiencing bad performance anxiety during biofeedback sessions, which causes them to feel agitated and lowers their HRV. -       Don't be discouraged; this is an excellent learning opportunity for you. Address and work on the problem. -       Any upward direct movement is beneficial since it indicates that the nervous system is actively engaged. But what we want to do is gradually raise it over time. -       Work to figure out where you are, and then just go forward. Simply strive to improve by 1% every day, just as you would in any other aspect of your life. AND MUCH MORE! Exposure to various substances in the environment can affect the structure of the membrane. -       Jess emphasizes that maintaining cell membrane health is foundational to overall well-being. [19:55] Understanding the Dual Nature of Omega-6 Fatty Acids -       The fatty acid pathway includes both omega-6 and omega-3 branches. While omega-6 fatty acids are often associated with inflammation, Jess emphasizes that this inflammatory response is crucial for the body's biochemical processes, particularly in the healing process. -       It is important to recognize the dual nature of omega-6 fatty acids. -       Not all omega-6 fatty acids are the same. There is a distinction between rancid omega-6, which may be associated with processed and unhealthy sources, and pure, unadulterated omega-6 linoleic acid derived from carefully treated, organic sources like cold-pressed seed oils. -       The processing and storage methods play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of omega-6. [33:00] DHA in Brain Health and Fetal Development, Advocating for Dietary Sources with Caviar in the Spotlight -       DHA plays a crucial role in brain health; it is highlighted as an essential aspect, not only for maintaining brain function but also for fetal development during pregnancy. It is particularly emphasized for its significance in the third trimester of pregnancy. -       Jess suggests obtaining DHA from dietary sources rather than relying solely on supplements. -       While acknowledging the benefits of fish oil, the recommendation is to include fish in the diet, with an emphasis on consuming high-quality fish. -       Caviar is specifically mentioned as a preferred source, and Jess discourages overreliance on fish oil supplements. [38:00] Preventative Health Measures and the Impact of “Forever Chemicals” -       Jess emphasizes the importance of considering health as wealth and the value of taking preventative measures. -       She suggests that investing in understanding indicators of future diseases through testing is worth it, especially when adopting a resilient and preventative lifestyle. -       Jess discusses the presence of persistent chemicals, even those that have been banned for years. -       She mentions an example of a chemical used in dry cleaning that has been banned for two decades but is still detectable in cells. This highlights the existence of "forever chemicals" and the long-lasting impact of certain substances on the human body. [45:00] A Generational Approach to Health, Dispelling Fear and Addressing Toxins for Long-term Well-being -       Jess emphasizes the importance of building cellular resilience for everyone, spanning generations. -       The goal is not to create fear about exposure but to empower individuals to enhance their cellular strength for better health. -       Toxins entering the body can embed themselves in nuclear and mitochondrial DNA, altering epigenetics and potentially activating health vulnerabilities. -       The development of health issues, such as cancer, may occur over 15 to 20 years, underscoring the importance of addressing toxins early. [54:00] A Profound Appreciation for Family Health -       Jess expresses profound gratitude for her own health, as well as the health of her children, husband, and family. -       Working with individuals who do not have healthy children has heightened Jess's awareness of health disparities. The emotional impact of witnessing these struggles is evident, and it underscores the value she places on the well-being of her own family. -       Jess conveys a heartfelt sense of empathy for those facing health challenges with their children.
