Virtual Design and Construction Reality Check (feat. Benjamin Crosby)
This week Eddie and Tyler sit down with Benjamin Crosby of Yates Construction to talk about VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) and BIM (Building Information Modeling). Since Eddie and Tyler both make their living in the BIM/VDC world, it's good to have a reality check every once in a while. Benjamin provides that insight! Benjamin's focus is to build a unified team to complete a successful project. He believes that a high level of communication and cooperation are produced with VDC, which brings all the players together to focus on the project as a whole. As Director of BIM (Building Information Modeling), Benjamin is responsible for all the BIM projects Yates is currently completing. He is also educating Yates' management in the general application of BIM policies, techniques, and benefits. As Yates is fully embracing BIM, they have seen that there are greater benefits to be gained the more other team members join in the process. As a result, Benjamin spends much of his time teaching VDC/BIM classes, hosting online education, and traveling to projects to help not only Yates but all the project team to gain the benefits that result from a collaborative BIM process. Mani Golparvar & John Jurewicz - Reconstruct
This week Eddie and Tyler sit down with Mani Golparvar of Reconstruct and John Jurewicz of Wallbridge. Reconstruct is a platform that allows its users to easily combine data from various sources. All of your 3D models, point clouds and 360 videos can be put into the same platform and stitched together using artificial intelligence. One of the key benefits of doing this is the transparency it can provide in progress monitoring. Scans can be done more often since the process can be as simple as walking around with a 360 camera. Since they’re using AI to get the heavy lifting done, the result is a quick turnaround so you can use those 3D files before the job site has changed making the scans obsolete. John dives into his real real-world experience and gives us a good perspective on where Reconstruct has improved his projects and where he’s excited to see more development done.
