Man Behind the Curtain (CURT Keynote)

We talked live at the CURT Keynote this past week about the importance of data-rich procurement. We wanted to explore how removing unknown variables from the bidding process cuts cost for both the owner and for the fabricators. We explore simple tricks to maintain productivity while cutting overhead. We also discuss the only way we see this working in the long run, and it could create upset in the industry to companies who are just lining their pockets instead of being a value-add to the industry. WHERE ARE MY TOOLS? (feat. Tammy Bauer and Marko Milosevic)

Ever lose a tool? Us too! How do we fix that? Asset management. A way to track what you have, where it is, who has it, and if it was broken by Eddie the last time he used it. We talk with Tammy Bauer and Marko Milosevic about all the various use cases of the Bosch Bluehound system. From tracking one specific type of asset to tracking a whole business of assets from consumables to long-term assets to auditable assets. We look into how asset tracking has been received by foremen and project managers and how it can be customized to fit the business's and individual users’ needs. Critical Path Management (feat. Chase Wirtz)

Ever have problems with project scheduling? So do we. This week we bring on Chase to talk about his passion, job scheduling. The value added to how we do business was incredible, learning about what non-schedulers need to know about scheduling, what makes a schedule harder to follow, and how much detail is too much detail. Chase shares his predictions of the future problems of scheduling and how that will affect the industry as a whole. Generational Roundtable (feat. Greg Sizemore)

Greg Sizemore, the founder and Executive Vice President of the Construction Users Roundtable, joined us in a live CURT seminar to talk about how to be a good leader, mentor, and friend. He specifically liked this quote: “People with purpose do incredible things”. It’s the first smart thing Tyler has said on the podcast. The jury is still out on who he stole it from, but for now, we will let him have it. It seems like no matter what part of the industry we are in, the overarching theme is to be real and to be honest, and we talk about how Greg has done that in his career. Man's New Best Friend (feat. Brian Ringley)

This week we talk to Brian Ringley, a man who works with robots that can work in the human work environment and don’t need special treatment for their job. SPOT is a quadruped automated robot that can traverse the standard construction site without special accommodations. Personally, we just wanted an opportunity to pack-bond with a robot dog so we can have a friend when the robots take over. Brian brings some really awesome concepts about how SPOT’s vision helps it traverse, how SPOT is being used, and non-construction applications that teach us how to expand our use case. Reimagining Construction (feat. Pete Dumont)

What does love and being neighborly have to do with the construction industry? We welcome Pete Dumont, the CEO of PrairieDog Venture Partners. Pete is a leader in the OS 2.0 ideology, whose goal is to get rid of waste in the industry. This starts in insurance, delaying pay, and other forms of overused safety nets that create frozen funds. The next step is to create healthy external relationships. Pete talks about the two most unhealthy business relationships and what OS 2.0 is pushing towards. To start fostering these relationships now, OS 2.0 has looked outside the industry to find inspiration in smart contracts and blockchain.
