KEY IDEA. The husbands first referred to in 1 Peter 3:1 need to be "won" to Christ. Then in verse 7 Peter begins with the Greek word for "Likewise." Their wives needed to be won to Christ as well.There has been much speculation about the meaning of these verses. Most of it misses the mark. Much of it espouses incorrrect theology. Place quotation marks around verses 34 and 35 in 1 Corinthians 14. This shows that these words came from others, not Paul.Our Bible translators should have been doing this all along. But those who get Genesis 3:16 wrong miss the meaning in the other key passages on women and men like this one.Once Genesis 3:16 becomes clear the other passages become clear too.Paul vigorously responds to those who proposed the ideas quoted in verses 34-35. Women are free to follow Paul's liberating traditions! In 1 Cor 11:10-16 Paul appeals to the church as a whole and to the Greek subgroup of believers.
