Write Your Story with Ally Fallon
iHeartPodcasts
We are all creating the stories of our lives each day. Sometimes it’s hard to believe in a happy ending when were in the middle of chaos – or to understand the transformation we are undergoing when we're being tested over and over again – but I believe we are all here to learn, grow, and discover more of who we are in this life and I want to help you do exactly that. Let’s uncover the meaning of our stories together. The stories we tell ourselves about our life matter – and only we have the power to edit, upgrade or re-write them altogether. Only we have the power to become the hero we want to be. Only we can change the narrative of the story we’re telling ourselves. If we’re sick of being the “girl who got dumped” or the “guy who lost his job” or the “villlan,” the “helper”, etc — what choice do we have? We get creative and we write a new story. As a bestselling author, I’ve learned the principals that make stories tick and I've taken many of my life stories and put them to paper. What I have learned is that stories have a lot to teach us about what matters in life; and that one of the most powerful things you can do to heal is to face your story head-on. To co-create the ending. To uncover the thread that holds the whole thing together. To become the hero you would want to see on the screen. I’ve taught many others how to do this and I want to share these insights with you, too. Everyone wants to make meaning of their story (me included) and it’s never too late. You can become a completely new person with a whole new story in just a few short years. So let’s go on this journey together. Come with me as we explore how to become our authentic selves and live our true stories. We’ll explore personal growth, self-help, psychology, spirituality, and so much more. It’s never too late to rewrite your story.

What Happens In the Middle of a Story (Struggle and Relief)
Whatever your hero set out to achieve, the chances are good he or she didn’t achieve it in a single go (or it would be a very short story). The struggle and relief series is where you take your reader on the roller coaster ride of your hero’s transformation. How did your hero have to try and fail in order to get where he or she was going? Follow Ally on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allyfallon/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Magical Parallels of Storytelling and Life (The One Big Problem)
There are a handful of ways that story formulas don’t match up with life experience. Our stories don’t always tie up with a perfect resolution, for example. But when it comes to problems, life and storytelling have this in common: no shortage of obstacles in the way of getting to where we are trying to go. On this week’s episode, I unpack how we use this to our advantage. Follow Ally on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allyfallon/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Where Does My Story Begin? (The Hero Who Wants Something)
A story is always built around a main character (we are going to call that character the hero) who wants something and goes on a journey to achieve that thing. In the process, the hero transforms into someone wholly new. In order to begin writing your story, you need to know: who is the hero of your story and what does he or she want?Follow Ally on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allyfallon/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What If My Story Isn’t Interesting? (The Hook)
What makes a story interesting (or not very interesting) aren’t the details of the story itself; it is how the author chooses to share those details. A simple story can be riveting when it’s given the right structure; and on the contrary, even a salacious story can be boring when it doesn’t have a strong shape. In this episode, you’ll learn exactly what makes your story interesting so you can hook a reader from start to finish.Follow Ally on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allyfallon/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What Makes a Story Interesting? (Thoughts on Spare by Prince Harry)
Did you know that Prince Harry’s new memoir Spare is one of the bestselling non-fiction books of all time? What makes a book like this so interesting? Is it just because it’s written by a Prince (and his ghostwriter)? In this episode I want to share what is so effective about the way this story is told, and where I think the techniques break down and open Prince Harry to controversy.Follow Ally on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allyfallon/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What Story Should I Write? (The Controlling Idea)
Before you can begin to write your story, you need to decide two things. First: what story from your life you’re going to write about. And second: what that story is truly about. You have infinite stories to write about but you have to start by choosing one. This episode will help you do just that.Follow Ally on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/allyfallon/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What is a Story? (The “Rules” of Storytelling)
In order to write your story you need to know that stories are incredibly formulaic. Life is not formulaic but storytelling is; and when you understand the rules that drive effective storytelling, you use those rules to your advantage. You may have an inkling you want to write your story but tell yourself you could never do that because you’re not a “real” writer.
