Psychedelic Conversations Podcast - Darren Le Baron #10

Darren Le Baron (Springer) discovered psychedelics early in his teens however he wasn't interested until in his 30's simply because he was taught to "say no to drugs" and as he began to explore psychedelics, he understood why society has given psychedelics a bad name since it's an extremely liberating technology, allowing one to open up their psyche and discover more about their own mind. Darren believes that the notion of psychedelics losing many years of research in the '50s is misleading since that is only the case in western society as there are many indigenous cultures around the world that have been using psychedelics for decades now with an unbroken link. Darren's interest in indigenous cultures and history taught him the various uses of sacred plants ritualistically in ceremonies for medicinal purposes and we talk about the gatekeepers - the people that the sacred plants were gifted to, certain parts of the world hold specific entheogenic plants i.e The Amazon holds Ayahuasca, West Africa holds Iboga, Mexico holds Salvia etc. We also discuss the relationship between mental health and psychedelics, Darren mentions that indigenous cultures generally don't use psychedelics as a means of healing mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression etc. as these illnesses are a lot more common in western society due to the way we live. In indigenous cultures, psychedelics are used in a way to prevent mental illnesses rather than cure them. Darren's interest in cultivation, horticulture and organic food growing lead him to become a renowned mycologist, partnerships with Double Blind and The Psychedelic Society. About Darren: Darren Le Baron (Springer) is a mythologist, psychedelic researcher, qualified organic horticulturist, permaculture teacher and facilitator. Permaculture is an innovative framework for creating sustainable ways of living. His interactive workshops look at the fundamental ethics and principles of permaculture while sharing practical tips for personalizing and implementing the tools in our busy daily urban settings. Along with being a member of the Breaking Convention committee, Darren has worked with CRCLR in Berlin and LUSH in the UK supporting both to create sustainable working systems and environments using permaculture. Psychedelic Conversations Podcast | Changal-Sapuro #9

Welcome to the Psychedelic Conversations podcast! Episode 9: We start by discussing Changal’s story and how it began with Cannabis when he was 9 years old. He explains that the plants found him throughout his life and not the other way around. At the age of 12, he met magic mushrooms, this allowed him to delve deeper and learn about himself. After years of exploring magic mushrooms, he also experienced other substances (Cocaine, MDMA, Speed) which allowed him to understand which of these drugs are medicines and which are not. We then start to discuss Bufo Medicine. Changal clarifies that with bufo medicine, he started to learn about oneness and how everything is interconnected. He then tells me about how he combined Ayahuasca with Bufo medicine and had one of the most intense trips he had ever experienced. This experience gave him one of the most animalistic perspectives of reality and allowed him to see how all beings are sentient, even down to the trees, rocks and water, holding the same collective consciousness. Changal does not advise an inexperienced individual to mix psychedelics such as Bofu + Ayahuasca. In order for someone to actually embrace an experience like this, one must first build capacity to contain such a powerful trip. It has taken him years (step by step) to be able to endure these experiences with the right approach. “When entering the deep waters, you want to be swimming and not drowning inside.” One day he came home on MDMA and was expressing his emotions with his parents. They gained interest and decided to try MDMA and magic mushrooms, this allowed his father to have one of the most transformative experiences in the year 2012. This experience absolutely changed his life and gave him the insight to stop living within society’s rules and realized from then onwards Changal had to become self-sustainable. We end off the discussion talking about the evolution of technology, Changals experience working with Bofu, Ayahuasca and Kambo, Re-activation of Bufo and Changal's regenerative healing farm. Changal's journey with the entheogenic medicines has been a tribal journey and it has not only brought him closer to nature but has also shown him what it means to be human. After years of experiencing this, he has slowly been able to empathize with the tribal people of the Amazon and why they've chosen to live this way. It has taught him over the years that you don’t have to build anything or to be a certain way or do a specific thing, we only have to live in the moment now, to enjoy life. Changal's message to everyone is to listen to your heart, if something doesn’t feel right, then it’s not right. About Changal-Sapuro Ancestralis: Facilitator of Bufo Alvarius, Kambo and Ayahuasca medicine, Artist, Builder, Farmer. He was introduced to psychedelics at the age of 9 and he’s been exploring psychedelic and entheogenic states for more than 17 years. In the last 6 years, he’s been living on 1 hector of land where he is building regenerative community healing farm, also traveling around the world to share Bufo medicine (Germany, Poland, Serbia, Austria, California, Oregon, Mexico, and last 2 years also traveling to Brazil to share Bufo medicine. His attitude towards psychedelics is “medicine for life” and he has a shamanic perspective and approach to psychedelics. He believes the entheogenic medicine is the best ally/teacher and pure consciousness itself. Welcome to the Psychedelic Conversations Podcast! Episode 8:   We start off by discussing Antonio's life story and his experience growing up seeing energy and spirits, learning about certain plant medicines such as ayahuasca, salvia through his grandmother, the spiritual impact psychedelics had on his life allowing him to understand people on a spiritual level, and how he started delving deeper into psychedelic practices once his son was born.  We go on to discussing Salvia and the power it has, the difference between chewing it and smoking it, how it creates a unique experience for each individual taking it and how the experience may differ depending on one's body type, weight, gut health, mental health, upbringing etc.  I then ask Antonio for his opinion on the effect that psychedelics would have if they became mainstream and more available to people. He explains the problem with this and how it could potentially be a threat to the majority of pharmaceutical companies since they'll end up losing power and money. We go on to discuss mycology, microdosing, the science behind cultivating mushrooms, various types of mushrooms and their potency, and his experience experimenting with different genres of music when cultivating mushrooms. We end off the conversation by briefly going over quantum neurological psychedelic mapping and navigation, Antonio's thoughts on the psychedelic renaissance, his plans for the future of his company "A.L.I.C.E Cbyn", the beauty of mycelium growth and its connection with nature, and much more. Psychedelic Conversations Podcast | Naysha Silva #7

Welcome to the Psychedelic Conversations Podcast! Episode 7:   In this episode,   we focus the discussion on "dieta's", which is a contract made between a curandero and a particular plant spirit. It is an important part of Shamanic training to become a facilitator of the plant medicines. It is also used as a practice to heal oneself. Naysha explains it is a great idea to take part in a ceremony as well as a dieta to get the full experience. Before taking part in a dieta, one needs to fast for up to ten days. This allows you to show your deepest traumas and what you have been suppressing. The more time that one can invest into their dieta the better, since with each person the time frame may differ until one is healed. I address the issue where a lot of people are coming to these dieta's expecting instant healing, and even more so feel a sense of entitlement after only one month of experience. Where in reality, to be a true Shaman, it could take up to several months, maybe even a few years. Experiencing a Dieta is allowing the plants access to the subconscious mind and surrendering with trust, the western mindset struggles with this. Naysha explains that for a person who wants to train, the first year is all about healing. As you train, you start to become your own guide and realize that the medicine isn’t going to do the work for you, it is you who has to speak to the plants so they can answer your prayers. There is a problem with the western influence since in the traditional way when people came to heal, they didn’t have a timeframe. We then discuss the importance of being humble when working with the plant medicines. It is extremely important we use these plant medicines with the utmost respect. Many people also have trouble spending time with themselves and that’s why this pandemic has caused a lot of psychological problems and depression etc. The practice of the dieta is to come back to our inner child and learn who we really are.  Naysha clarifies that a typical day - when undergoing training - is spending time with yourself and trying to connect with the plants, eating one meal a day and being restricted from distractions such as cell phones. The first ceremony is the opening of the dieta. The Shamans start calling the spirits of the plants to see which plant is appropriate for the person/people they’re working with. The shaman will then determine how much time is needed for each person. After the first ceremony, some people may want to master a plant over a period of time to slowly become accustomed to each plant medicine and its properties.  About Naysha: A devoted Curandera from the Peruvian Amazon working in the shamanic field for 12 years. Trained by indigenous shamans. Born from plants, carries her medicine all over the world to help people awaken and heal. Psychedelic Conversations Podcast | Martha Allitt #6

Episode 6:   In this episode,  We start by discussing her life story growing up in England feeling a sense of small-town syndrome, experiencing her first psychedelic at 17 years of age, discovering an inspiring Ted talk in 2016, and her fascination with yoga and it becoming apart of her journey into the psychedelic realm which ultimately lead her to do yoga training and to work for the psychedelic society. We discuss the integration process, the mainstreaming of yoga and the misconception of it being an instant healing process, the glamorization of psychedelic drugs and meditation, what it takes to deal with depression the right way, how typically - in human nature - we expect instant gratification when trying to heal ourselves, and the importance of writing down your experience when taking psychedelics and sharing it with other people. Later on we discuss harm-reduction, the understanding that psychedelics are not domesticated medicines and can be just as dangerous as they can be effective and wonderful, the important notion that we cannot control psychedelics but we can turn a negative experience into something positive, the subconscious mind being revealed when taking psychedelics, and the dangers of using psychedelics alone as a recreational drug and the adverse effects they may have.  I then ask Martha about the UK and where we are positioning ourselves in the renaissance. She explains that the UK is ready to decrease the harm of these drugs when used recreationally, but that we need to give it time. She clarifies that there is a lot of progress being made with harm-reduction at festivals and how important it is since a lot of people take drugs from unknown sources. We go on to discuss the "Zendo Project" which is a program that has been created to provide safe spaces within festivals for people having difficult experiences related to drugs. I explain to Martha how since the "Zendo Project" has been created, a lot of the harm at festivals has been reduced.  Martha helps by listing some of the important steps to note for harm-reduction purposes starting with the importance of understanding different types of drug test kits, researching what you are taking on sites like "https://psychonautwiki.org/", owning a scale to know the exact amount you're taking, meditating before going into a psychedelic trip, having a "trip sitter" - someone you trust that is willing to be there for you if needed, and most importantly, to do what you are comfortable with. About Martha: Martha works for the Psychedelic Society UK where she runs events on science, culture and policy within the context of psychedelics and other plant-based medicines. She also works for The Psychedelic Renaissance where she writes articles and various other pieces of content to engage the psychedelic community and beyond in the spectrum of issues and relevant news, both positive and negative. She also aims to spread important harm-reduction information and is a proud volunteer for Psycare UK with a background in Neuroscience, Martha has an evidence and research-based focus and is passionate about disseminating information on the therapeutic purposes of plant-based medicines and other psychedelics to treat various medical conditions, in hope to move closer towards ending the war on drugs. This drive has led her to volunteer for Patient-Led Engagement Access (PLEA). Outside of her psychedelic career, Martha is a trained yoga teacher, enjoys making art, writing songs and dancing to 80's disco music. Psychedelic Conversations Podcast | Naysha Silva #5

Welcome to Psychedelic Conversations Podcast!    Episode 5:     In this episode,    We start by discussing how the pandemic has affected Naysha's personal life, the struggle of bringing mother nature's medicine into western society, the misconception of the medicine being an instant transformation tool, and the importance of the environment the medicine is taken in.   We then go on to discuss how typically in human nature we are always wanting a quick transformation, the "spiritual eagle" - believing that once you've taken the medicine you are completely enlightened, and the real hard work it takes to confront the shadow self and become truly awakened.    Naysha explains spiritual narcissism and the ego, the dedication and time it takes to carry the medicine appropriately and the truthful teaching of the plants to become unconditional and to love without the ego distorting one's perception.   We also discuss the art of self-work and accepting what is, the important lesson of "listening" when taking plant medicines, and the understanding that these medicines can show what you're capable of but that it's up to you to fulfill your purpose.    Naysha then explains the challenges she had to overcome in her journey to becoming a Shaman, setting boundaries with people, and having to let go of certain friends and family. As well as becoming more strict over the years as a Shaman since many people aren't truly ready to complete a ceremony and feel cheated when having to let go of technology and their comfort zones.   Lastly, we go over the notion of having to walk a path of darkness before seeing the light and attaining wisdom, the importance of forgiveness and its benefits for one's soul, how going through a grieving process is crucial for an individual, and how having to be hypersensitive when doing a Dieta allows one to hear and truly connect with the plants.
