SHOW NOTES I was introduced to Jesse Macedo through a mutual friend. Squatting without shoes Rooting Use of Kettlebells Debunking common squatting myths All of these topics and more are addressed during this podcast session. It's a fun one… you won't be disappointed! The video version is on Youtube… subscribe to the channel to get access. He currently works as a Coach at Equinox but he has big plans to become a podium speaker to educate other coaches. Email: jmacedopt@gmail.com IG: @strengthcoachmacedo Quotes: Any shoe these days have a heel lift and a smaller front. That automatically puts (the ankles) into plantar flexion. Hey why don't you tell me what happened on rep 6,7, & 8... That gives them a moment to pause and think about what they just did (good or bad rep). If you're inundated with texts, emails or you're thinking about work then that 90% 1RM becomes dangerous. Pay attention to the moment. {to a random gym goer} I see you're doing goblet squats. I love kettlebells bro… All I want you to do, is try that one without your shoes on man… and see how it feels. Personal Story Of Knee Pain Recovery

SHOW NOTES I've had my fair share of injuries, trauma and non-traumatic based. I've had what most would call IT Band Pain, Lateral Meniscus tear, Compression Fracture of the lateral tibial plateau. I've been frustrated just like you, my knee injuries limited my baseball, lifting and running. Some treatments I used are: Physical Therapy Synvisc Injection Cortisone Injection Rest Ice H-Wave Active Release Rocktape And much much more. I had some ups and downs but what I found the hardest part of the injury to control was the swelling. The swelling was enough to make me feel like I had a ziplock bag in my knee. I thought about it as I walked, squatted and fell asleep. How did I get over these knee woes? Listen to the podcast and you'll see... Quotes: " Knee injuries, unless from trauma, are not found in isolation." "It felt like an ice pick stabbing my knee.." "I think stiffness around around the knee was helpful to stabilize the knee." 9 Things All Chiropractic Students Should Know In Chiropractic School

SHOW NOTES I was going to do this session about rehab of hamstring conditions but I received an email from a exercise science student whom asked that I speak about the things I wish I had learned in school or things that I learned in school that changed when I started to see patients. I went with the 9 things I wish I knew about Sports Medicine while in school. You can find the checklist here: https://www.p2sportscare.com/checklists/#72 The list is under the button "School Recap" I wanted to invite everyone to assist me in better communication as I prepare some courses. I've done some in the past that have failed. I believe we all should know the general testing, algorithm and rehab series with common injuries… which is why the #1 thing I wish I knew is school was "Proximal Stabilization for Distal Mobility" If you'd like to be part of the course building process please visit this url: https://www.p2sportscare.com/courses/ Sebastian's Youtube Channel for hamstring videos. Training And Lifting With A Hamstring Injury Brenan Ghassemieh

SHOW NOTES Brenan Ghassemieh was introduced to me by a good friend, Dr. Cody Dimak (Session 31), as the perfect guy to speak about training responsibility around injuries. Since we've been focusing on hamstring injuries, we kept that as a central focus BUT it's important to realize the body works as ONE UNIT and we can't separate regions in training and rehab. You'll hear this concept of centrality throughout the entire podcast. A few major points/ concepts we come back to are: Hamstring tightness vs the "feeling of tightness" Exercises to train the hamstring that are safe If you're feeling a hamstring "grab" during exercises then it's not normal Training of the hamstring centers around posture, compound lifts and eccentrics Hamstring tightness is not always bad Assessment of an individual starts with observation! Videos Correlated: Everything can be found in this single video Assessments movements to watch: SRDL Goblet Squat Lateral Squat Lateral Wedge Warm-ups or Movement Prep: Lateral Band Crab Walks Lateral Squat (just record once) Rotational Squat Side Bridge Pallof Press Anti-Cops Rotational Chops Curtsy Lunges Transverse Lunges If you're a clinician this is the perfect podcast session to share with that patient who's been asking questions about what they can/can't do in the gym with a hamstring strain. If you're a patient/athlete you need to be examined first and properly diagnosed with the CORRECT condition before you rehab. Movement is everything and often times you need to be cued properly by a professional. Hamstring Anatomy Facts And Stories From Anonymous Guests

SHOW NOTES In this session we are going into some personal accounts of hamstring strains. In school, clinicians seem to get the textbook presentations… then they get out into the real world of healthcare and see all of the uniqueness of people and situations. People are unique… this is why case studies are great. The patient's I'm interviewing are not people I have confirmed have a hamstring injury but I did ask my network of people to find a "hamstring strain" for the interviews. Do we need to know if they are truly hamstring strains or not? No, the takeaway from this session will be that this is what people experience when they "feel they have a hamstring strain." Other possible diagnosis for hamstring region pain are: Lumbar Radiculitis Referred Muscular Pain Sacroiliac joint Dysfunction Inflammatory/metabolic causes Amongst a bunch of other things...
