71. Genuinely Valuable Members of an Intergenerational Learning Community with Skyler, Rhys, Amelia, and Sam from Springhouse
We are joined this week by Skyler, Rhys, Amelia, and Sam from Springhouse. Springhouse is more than a school. It's ecocentric, soulcentric, grounded, placed-rooted, cooperation-based, holistic, and whole-hearted. These students gather to express their thoughts on this place of learning and growth. One thing I loved hearing from them is that there are a lot of kinds of intelligences that go beyond standard academic ones. There is a wonderful diversity to the way we all approach learning. 70. Reimagine Place as Pedagogy with Dr. Kelly Cerialo
In this episode of the Time for Teachership Podcast, I am talking with Dr. Kelly Cerialo, an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in the Business and Hospitality Department at Paul Smith's College. The model that Dr. Cerialo's school focuses on is innovative experiential learning. Place-based learning is what inspires the current study abroad program at the college. Because the students are in the middle to lower income brackets, the intention with the study abroad program was to make it accessible to everyone. This is unique because it gives students an option to travel who wouldn't have that chance in a traditional school. Follow along with Dr. Cerialo and I to hear about the sustainable approach, justice-based considerations for study abroad programming, and various impacts this program has made. Liked this episode? 68. Hyperpredictable Classroom Routines with Mitch Weathers
This week, our guest is Mitch Weathers who had a ton of great points to share. In this conversation, Mitch introduces us to the "organized binder" which is an evidence based MTSS Tier one universal solution that creates a structured and dependable environment with clear expectations and routines. The routines are great for simplifying, like how you start, how you transition, how are you organizing your materials, How do you end, and so on. Predictable learning spaces are safer and students are more likely to take the risks inherent to learning in those spaces. Liked this episode? Rate, review, and share! 66. Be Fearless and Teach with FIRE with Mark Taylor
Embrace passion and fearlessness because that's what fuels you to be the best leader you can be! In Episode 66, Mark Taylor explains why it's important to pay attention to what students want and provide a path for them to succeed. He mentions how he likes to use the FIRE acronym where F stands for Failure (to understand what failure really means), I for Inspiration, R for Resilience, and E for Empowerment. If educators use the FIRE principles, then every child has the chance to do what they were born to do in a natural way. It's quite inspiring! Liked this episode? Rate, review, and share!
