#66: Therese Brisson (Alpine Canada CEO) - Changing the Tires & What's Next For Alpine Canada
Hello and welcome to episode #66 of the rose bros podcast!This episode we are joined by Therese Brisson – CEO of Alpine Canada.Therese Brisson played for the Canadian National women's ice hockey team from 1993 to 2005 and was a member of the gold medal winning team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and silver medal winning team at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.Therese also competed for Canada at 5 World Championships in 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001.After sport, Therese earned her Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Montreal as well as an MBA specializing in finance and management consulting from York University.In July of 2020, she was named CEO of Alpine Canada where she was tasked with bringing a fresh perspective to the organization.Since then, she has been working on leading Alpine Canada through the Covid-19 pandemic while simultaneously planning the future of the organization.We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and discussed carving Alpine Canada’s unique path forward, the importance of a winning mindset, budgets vs. organizational effectiveness, and what Alpine Canada isn’t planning on doing going forward. Think of Eight Ounce as the suppliers of the “hardware” that coffee drinkers use to brew their coffee including everything from home use pour-overs to commercial late machines in cafes.Eight Ounce is now the biggest specialty coffee equipment distributor in Canada, selling to almost four thousand cafes, roasters, hotels, kitchens and lifestyle stores in Canada and the USA. Operating out of a twenty thousand square foot warehouse in Calgary, with team members in Montreal and Toronto - Eight Ounce has managed to grow their business even during the Covid-19 pandemic. #62: Glenn Thomsen (Olympic + World Cup Coach) - Athlete Development from Thomas Grandi to Grandkids
Hello and welcome to episode #62 of the rose bros podcast !This episode we are joined by Glenn Thomsen - athlete, coach and dad who has guided ski racers from the grassroots level all the way up to the Olympic & World Cup stage.In 2017, The Canadian Rockies Ski Racing Hall of Fame recognized Glenn as an Honored Alberta and Canadian Ski Team Alumni, for a lifetime of passion for ski racing and coaching excellence.Glenn invested forty years into coaching elite level and next generation champions at three Olympic Winter Games, the Canadian National Ski Team on the World Cup Circuit, Provincial Ski Teams, grassroots club programs, and has seen his athletes reach the podium in both speed and tech – ladies and men.Among many athletes, Glenn guided Karen Percy to two Olympic bronze medals (1988) and a World Championship silver (1989), as well as podium results from Laurie Graham, Liisa Savijarvi, Kerrin Lee-Gartner and Lucie Laroche, Edi Podivinsky and Cary Mullen, Thomas Grandi, Brad Spence, Trevor White, Paul Stutz – all of who would subsequently reach the World Cup top 10 or better.Glenn has since retired from the sport of Alpine Ski racing and likes to spend his time with his family and wife Meghan, mountain biking, water skiing and playing hockey.We sat down for a smooth cup of rose bros coffee and talked about different approaches to high level coaching, what makes a great athlete, how to stay young , advice to junior athletes and a lot more.Enjoy!Support the show

This episode we are joined by Manuel Osborne-Paradis for part II of our conversation!Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia - Manny grew up racing for the Whistler Mountain Ski Club. His first World Cup podium came in November 2006 at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada, and his first victory was at the downhill of Kvitfjell in March 2009.Manny spent 13 seasons on the World Cup Circuit competing in 4 Olympic Games and 6 World Championships with 2 Downhill wins, 1 Super-G win and 11 podium finishes. Since our last conversation, Manny made the decision to retire from the sport of alpine ski racing to focus on his business career, two young children and wife Lana.Manny currently lives in Invermere, British Columbia where he enjoys ski touring, golf, mountain biking and a variety of sports. #60: Patrick Biggs - Olympic Skiing, the Ivy League & Balancing Creativity with Business
Hello and welcome to episode #60 of the Rose Bros Podcast.Today we are joined by Patrick Biggs.Patrick was first named to represent Canada as a member of the Canadian National Ski Team in May of 2004. Over a nine year period he competed at the International stage representing Canada at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, placed in the top 10 at two World Championships and scored top 30 results on the World Cup circuit for 7 years. Graduating from Dartmouth College in 2012 with an A.B. majoring in Engineering and Studio Art, he then moved into the next stage of his life and started a career as a professional artist in Ottawa, Ontario with his wife and family.
