Actor Jussie Smollett’s Chicago trial on charges that he faked a hate crime attack on himself has begun. 39-year-old Smollett was starring in the television show “Empire” when he claimed he was attacked by two men who hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him. They also left a noose around his neck. Two brothers who worked as extras on “Empire” later came forward and said Smollett had paid them to “attack” him. Prosecutors charged the actor but Cook County Prosecutor Kim Foxx dropped all the charges in return for community service and forfeiture of his bond. The sex trafficking trial of Ghislaine Maxwell has begun. The wealthy socialite is accused of being a central player in Jeffrey Epstein’s decades of sexual abuse of minors. Defense attorneys say Maxwell is a scapegoat taking the fall for a man’s misdeeds. The defense portrays Maxwell as a victim, and the accusers as basically in it for the money Epstein’s estate set aside for victims of his abuse after his death. The first witness of the trial was Lawrence Paul Visoski Jr., who worked as a pilot shuttling Epstein. Tammy and Dr. Jeffrey Harris had been married for 11 years when Tammy was diagnosed with lupus. A South Carolina dad drives his five children around the deep south for nine days. Their bodies are in garbage bags in the trunk. Timothy Jones, Jr, strangles four of them. A Washington doctor is charged with attempted kidnapping after police say he reached out to “hitmen” on the dark web. Investigators got a tip about a scheme to kidnap Dr. Ronald Craig Ilg’s wife. A woman who received the tip-off told investigators that Ilg wanted someone to kidnap his wife while he was away in Mexico. Ilg also allegedly wanted his wife injected with heroin for a week.
