20220510 Nicole Sandler Show - Deep Driftglass Thoughts

The old adage goes something like "may you live in interesting times"... well, at least we've got that doing for us. I don't know about you, but I'm ready for boring times. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll see that type of phenomena any time in the near future. But navigating these *interesting* moments that keep coming at us is often treacherous. Sometimes you need to consult one of the deep thinkers of our time to try to put things in perspective. We'll do that today with the blogger known as Driftglass. Let's see if he can make any more sense out of this mess that is our world than I can...

20220509 Nicole Sandler Show - Celebrating Victory Day!?!

The news geniuses tied themselves in knots over the past couple of weeks, speculating on what Putin was going to do to commemorate Victory Day-- May 9-- which is today! The annual holiday is set aside to honor the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.... It originated in the 15 republics of the Soviet Union after the German Instrument of Surrender was signed late at night on May 8, 1945. The breathless predictions were everything from "Russia will formally declare war" to possibilities much more deadly... Thankfully, none of that came to pass. Vlad did hold his parade and celebration on Red Square, but it was more subdued than expected. And when Putin addressed the nation, hackers changed the screens so they all read "On your hands is the blood of thousands of Ukrainians and their hundreds of murdered children. TV and the authorities are lying. No to war." On the other hand, Pres Zelinksy walked through the city of Kyiv while delivering his speech. Plus First Lady Jill Biden, Canadian President Justin Trudeau both visited, and Bono and The Edge played a mini concert on a subway platform, assisted by Ukrainian rock star Tomas Topelia of Antytila....

20220506 Nicole Sandler Show - Wrapping Up the Week with FOIA Master Jason Leopold

No clever title for this episode. I was toying with "FOIA Terrorist for Hire" or "BuzzFeed Fire Sale" but I figured that the most important part of it is that Jason Leopold is my guest today. Jason has been a senior investigative reporter for BuzzFeed News since 2016. During his time there, he broke a number of huge stories, got nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and solidified his place as the foremost FOIA expert in media today. Despite all of that BuzzFeed has decided to kill off its amazing News section. So I invited Jason on today to celebrate his work... Of course, the phones are open and we'll cover the latest news in the first half hour..

20220505 Nicole Sandler Show - Maybe Santa Claus Can Restore Integrity to Congress

It's a busy Thursday on the show.... I had taped a segment with Lisa Graves, legal expert for the Nicole Sandler Show (with credentials that make her the only person for that job!), expecting to run it yesterday. But the phones were on fire, and I wanted to take your calls as long as you wanted to talk. So today, we'll begin with Lisa Graves, who shares her legal expertise with us whenever I need an expert. And, as you'd expect, she has lots to say about Brett Kavanaugh (with whose confirmation hearings she was involved) and the other members of this illegitimate court and they control that they're planning to take over our bodies. Then, as it's Thursday, it's time for our weekly get-together with Howie Klein of Down with Tyranny and the Blue America PAC. Since we're now in primary season, today he brings us a candidate running in the special election to fill the House seat from Alaska that opened when Don Young died. And believe it or not, that candidate is Santa Claus. Seriously. I'm not kidding, and neither is he. Who better to take on Sarah Palin, eh?

20220504 Nicole Sandler Show - One Step Up and Fifty Years Back

I'm still reeling from the leaked draft of a SCOTUS opinion that we weren't supposed to see for another 7 or 8 weeks. But thanks to someone with a conscience who had access to the first draft of Justice Alito's opinion in the case that will determine the future of women's right to choose what happens with our bodies, we have the information early. That should allow our side to fight back effectively, but it is the Democratic Party we're talking about here, and they've been less than effective stewards of our democracy! I've got some audio and some opinions to share, but today I want to hear from you too. So the phone lines are open at 954-889-6410 (or you can always Skype in to nicolesandler)... And we'll also check in with my favorite legal expert, Lisa Graves of True North Research, who spent years in the trenches as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Policy in the Clinton DOJ, and a long list of other credentials that make her the perfect person to weigh in on what's happening now. Thankfully, she's way more optimistic than I am, so I'll try to adopt some of her positivity!
