The best laid plans and all that... I recorded a great interview yesterday to air today, but the audio was corrupted and it's not fit for air. So... the short version of the story is that we just talked -- you on the phones and I sounded off too about lots of breaking news today. Staring with Merrick Garland announcing a special counsel to deal with all of Trump's crimes. Then Biden gives MBS immunity for the murder of Jamal Khossigi?!?! And Twitter appears to be dying a slow, painful death.... It's certainly Friday!

The final vote counts are being tabulated and the outlook for the 118th Congress is coming into focus. Unfortunately, the Republicans have taken the majority in the House, and Kevin McCarthy is trying his hardest to become Speaker of the House. But the craziest in his caucus-- members of the so-called Freedom Caucus -- are exacting some major concessions from him for their votes. This is not going to be an enjoyable two years on that front. But there's much to speak with Howie Klein about today. The good news is that the Democrats retain control of the Senate and, of course, the White House. The Former Guy, building on his party's dismal performance in the midterms -- and virtually every one of Trump's endorsed candidates evisceration-- decides that now is the perfect time to announce he's running for president again in 2024?!? Nancy Pelosi this afternoon finally announced her intentions... she will remain in Congress, but will not run for re-election to leadership! So it appears she's clearing the way for the new Democratic House leadership triumvirate as Hakim Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar. Meh. Oh, Steny Hoyer said he'll do what Nancy's doing. Jim Clyburn thinks he'll still have a place in leadership. The Democratic Party braintrust still needs an infusion of new blood..

Climate change is here....Everything that Al Gore warned us would happen is happening. Our mainstream corporate media doesn't cover the issue much except when forced to because of the latest hurricane, flood, fire, drought ... you know, the every day occurrences plaguing the planet that we continue to destroy. Governments are making a show of doing something about it... the real question is if anything they do will ever help! Right now, the UN's annual climate confab is in progress... COP 27 is in Egypt. Friend of the show Sandy Schoelles, better known to her followers as Environmental Coffeehouse (the name of her YouTube channel and popular show) joins us today to tell us what's being accomplished or not, and what we need to know. Plus, Donald Trump is a loser. But you already knew that!

Her latest book is "Unholy: How White Christian Nationalists Powered the Trump Presidency and the Devastating Legacy they Left Behind". I invited Sarah to join me on today's show after reading a Twitter thread she wrote in response to a recent New York Times article that raised doubts about gender-affirming care (though, as she says, they don't call it that). This coordinated attack on Transgender people is coming directly from Republican governors and legislatures, with a big push by a perversion of Christianity that is unfortunately assaulting our sensibilities and vulnerable members of society. Yes, we have a lot to talk about today!
