I'm so sick of seeing laudatory stories about the bigot, racist, fascist governor of Florida. Ron DeSantis is a bully who believes his point of view is the only valid viewpoint and any other thoughts or ideas are therefore "woke," "indoctrination," or some other nonsense he spews every time he opens his ugly mouth. Just when you think he can't go any lower, he does something else despicable. The latest? In response to last week's protests of his actions in Tallahassee, he pushed through an order to disallow such protests in the future, damn your first amendment rights. (Don't you know that first amendment rights are only afforded to those who agree with his bigotry.) The main headline the front page of today's Miami Herald is "Florida's battleground but not for votes: It's the civil rights left vs. anti-woke right". The byline is Mary Ellen Klas [http://twitter.com/maryellenklas], the Herald's Capitol bureau chief who's covered Florida for most of her career. I invited her on after reading today's lead story, and seeing his latest act of retaliation against those who dare to oppose him. We awoke this morning, Presidents Day, to the news that President Biden was on the ground in Kyiv, meeting with President Zelinsky. We send thoughts and prayers to Jimmy Carter. Yes, this is the appropriate time for thoughts and prayers...

We've known for many years that Fox is anything but news, but we were shouting at a brick wall. Well, thanks to a $1.6 billion lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox, its executives, its commentators and stars, they might finally have to behave and -gasp - tell the truth! But it's really too late, as the 400+ page filing released yesterday pulls the curtain back from around the biggest propaganda outfit this country has ever seen. It's Thursday, so we hang out with Howie Klein of DownWithTyranny [http://downwithtyranny.com/] and the Blue America PAC [http://downwithtyranny.com/blue-america-pac] Today, we got the first look, redacted and sparse as it may be, from the Fulton County GA grand jury report about the investigation into Donald Trump's interference in the 2020 election outcome. We'll talk with Howie about his latest column on just what is the GOP agenda... if there is one. But I started the show with some words of encouragement and  thanks to Sen. John Fetterman, who checked himself into Walter Reed hospital for clinical depression. As one who's suffered from depression since adolescence, I am so grateful to him for not hiding his problems, but admitting that people sometimes just need help.

I'm a baby boomer.   I know that's not necessarily a good thing to publicly announce, but I'm not about to start lying about my age now. That said, I am among the last of the Boomers, having been born in November of 1959.  If you wonder why it matters, you probably should read THE AFTERMATH: THE LAST DAYS OF THE BABY BOOM AND THE FUTURE OF POWER IN AMERICA, the new book from Washington Post columnist Philip Bump. He's today's guest, and I'm looking forward to a fascinating conversation.  Hopefully the gremlins have been exorcised from this studio.  Yesterday was a rough day, not only due to the myriad of technical issues that doomed the show, but it was also the 5th anniversary of the Parkland shooting (my community), and I'm still processing the news of the death of a member of our community here at the show, Joy Williams. And the shooting at Michigan State, and it just never ends...  But today, we'll go boom.... Baby Boom, that is.
