Well, we made it though my first week on the air from Arizona, but Gym Jordan didn't! He's toast. And with no Speaker (and no nominee either), the Republicans did what they do so well... adjourned, and left for the weekend. Seriously. They'll allegedly regroup on Monday with a new set of Speaker wannabees... It's not like there are any pressing issues here and around the globe that need immediate action or anything. JFC.  It was a busy week, and I'm thrilled to welcome Marcy Wheeler back to the show. Since Marcy is in Ireland and I'm here in AZ, we recorded today's conversation at 9am AZ time. Given how quickly the news changes, it's no surprise that there was some breaking news between when we recorded and when it airs at 2pm AZ time, but most of it remains quite timely and important.  What changed? Gym Jordan was  told, unequivocally, by his caucus that it was time to abandon his quest for the Speakership. And Hamas released two American hostages they were holding in Gaza- a mother and daughter.  Now settle in, as Marcy has the mic for the hour....

As yesterday's show ended and things got going this morning, it appeared likely that the House would do some kind of deal to make Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry the temporary Pro Tempore Speakers or some other such made-up title to get past this mess that's never before occurred in history!  So I planned to ask Howie Klein to tell us all we need to know about Patrick McHenry, but now it appears that deal is dead. And there's Disorder in the House yet again!  A lot can change by the time Howie joins us this afternoon, but rest assured, we'll bring you the latest up-to-date news as we try to figure out what's going on...   It is Thursday, so today, Howie Klein re joins the show, as we are now live from Arizona.

Well, we made it to Arizona, rented a house in Chandler, unloaded the POD on Saturday, set up my studio on Sunday, and got it all working and on Monday tested and hopefully eradicated all gremlins. We'll find out today as it's my first official show from Arizona. Unfortunately it's not going to be a fun show. We will be dealing with the horrific situation in the Middle East. There are no good guys in this equation except for the innocent civilians in Israel and Gaza who are paying the steepest price possible. I'm joined today by Ron Skolnik. I'm hoping this will be the last show with recycled interviews while I move. As I post this Saturday morning, we're awaiting delivery of the PODS container with all our stuff!  But first I  have to run out to get some acoustic panels to deaden the sound in my studio. Right now it's an echo chamber, something we certainly are not. Today's show features the interview I did with historian/author Heather Cox Richardson whose new book was just released a couple of weeks ago. She's brilliant. If you haven't heard her you should listen.If you have heard her you should still listen! We finish it up with an interview I did with singer/songwriter/activist Billy Bragg back in 2009 on Air America (when it was still up and running). He was working on an updated interpretation of Beethoven's 9th/Ode to Joy. His new lyrics are quite fitting for what's happening in our world today. I'm planning on being back live on Monday. Well, we're here! I'm still getting my bearings in Arizona, but we found a house to rent in the town of Chandler, Arizona. We'll move in on Wednesday. In the meantime, with all that's going on in the world, I couldn't imagine being off the air for another week. So I'll slide into YouTube whenever possible during our regular time of 5pm ET/2 PT while we continue getting settled.  I jokingly quipped that it's a good thing not much happened in the past three weeks, but yeah, I picked the wrong time to be off the air. We've got a lot to talk about today. But keep in mind, I'm in a makeshift studio in our airbnb, so don't expect too much in terms of studio wizardry. I'll be happy to get up and streaming. Fingers crossed!

I'm hoping by the time today's episode airs, we'll have gotten to AZ, found a house to rent and moved in enough for me to get some kind of studio up and running to come back live on Monday, though that's not guaranteed. Jackson Browne, one of my all-time favorite artists, joined me in the studio at Southern California's Finest Rock, KSCA fm101.9 back on Sept 13, 1996. He brought a keyboard and a bunch of guitars and used most of them. What a magical session! To fill out the hour, a brief session with Lowen & Navarro. Dan Navarro is a dear friend, and was on the show just a few weeks ago, updating us on the SAG/AFTRA strike, as he sits on the executive board in Los Angeles. This quick session was from Dec 10, 1999, during our holiday toy drive.

During the pandemic, people all over the world explored their creativity. I started painting and others began doing parody songs… A family in Kent in the UK did that and great into a phenomenon. I've been lucky enough th have welcomed the Marsh Family on my show a couple of times, and have watched the kids grow over the past few years. Today, we'll go back to the show from Christmas Eve 2021 for a special hour with The Marsh Family.

Political scientist/election analyst/political strategist Rachel Bitecofer exploded on the scene in 2018 by making some election predictions that came to pass. Using her theory of "negative partisanship" she continued to call them right. She has a substack newsletter at substack.com/@thecycle. And a new book coming out in Feb 2024...
